Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - Kawji - 2010-12-06

Southperry is just becoming a whole lot of arguments lately, just because others share their opinion, we have people coming in here. "HERP DERP U R WRONG THIS IS RIGHT .. " ETC ETC ETC. " I don't like to jump into them, which is why this is my only post I've ever argued in, but I really just can't stand it anymore. If you don't like someones opinion, don't sit there and say, "YOU'RE STUPID AND WRONG AND I'M RIGHT." How about just say, "Well that's a nice opinion, but I would have to disagree about this point." Don't be rude about it. Call me a flamer or whatever you want, but seeing as how everyone seems to think it's alright to do the same thing, then call me a flamer, is' just hypocritical. I'm just telling the people who start these useless comments I keep seeing in every good thread. IT GETS OLD. This is the first and last time I'll speak my mind about this subject, sorry if I bothered some, but I had to get this across, hopefully some of these arguers might listen to reason.

I don't see anyone doing anything in a disrespectful manner. At worse, we're all being sarcastic wise-asses, but we're not openly insulting each other as you seem to think we are. In fact, you seem to have the impression that there's some kind of forum war going on here when all we're doing is expressing our anxiousness and anxieties about an upcoming patch. I'm excited, and bored, so I come here; once BB is out, I can almost promise you won't see me back here for a loooong time.

This is one of the most hypocritical posts I've seen on this forum in my entire time of lurking, I am seriously dissapointed to read such a post, I'm shocked and actually can't think of anything witty to reply to that. I've lost all motivation to even continue posting..that's just...wow.

Herborist Wrote:Leveling up is the central focus of the game. Squirm as much as you like, it's true. You play to level; you may not ONLY play to level, and you may care about other things, but the game itself is about training.

Honestly, this entire argument is insane to me. You're upset because maps are ugly, and that somehow outweighs the AMAZING increase to leveling speed, three new classes, a bunch of new maps, an great revamps to the old classes (I really want to make a paladin even if mechanics are OP as hell).

No, it's not. Leveling is the central focus of the game only because you make it that way, but it does not mean it is. It's insane for you to think that the way you see the game is the central way of the game.

And also, I've said there is more than one reason why Big Bang isn't as good as you think not only because they screwed Victoria over, but since you only care about leveling there is no point in listing them.

octopusprime Wrote:They're henehoes herb. Henehoes for christ sake.

Yes you can.

Herborist Wrote:Game aesthetics are nice and all, but last time I checked, you spend very little time in town. Maybe you "henehoes" like to sit around all day, but towns are just convenience points for me - I gather quests, buy pots, and use them as beacons to meet people at. The ONLY town that brings any nostalgia for me is Ellinia and that's only because of its unique horizontal design and tree-theme. Walking through Henesys gives me nothing and I've been playing since closed beta.

I find it funny how you think because people don't care all about leveling they are nothing more than henehoes. Why don't you give it a rest damagehoe?

Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - cronnoponno - 2010-12-06

Seeing as you need to level to continue to proceed in maplestory. Maplestory is based on grinding, social interaction is a bonus. The content you are able to enjoy in Maplestory is obtained solely by leveling.

EDIT: Besides, that post didn't contribute any reason to which Herb was incorrect other than ''No that's only the case cause that's what you think''.

Maybe, I'll say this. Leveling ISN'T the focus of the game only because you make it seem that way, but that does not mean it is.

Everyone has different things they want from MapleStory, and with some of those things don't need you to be more than level 50.

The problem is, you have the logic of this reversed.

From what I am assuming, you're saying ''Maplestory isn't about leveling, but that's a possible goal one can take in order to enjoy the many things Maplestory has to ofer''

But it's actually..

''Maplestory is primarily about leveling, but one can derail from that task and partake in various alternative activities in which they may enjoy that can even surpass the entertainment in leveling''
Big Bang is simply reducing the latter, which is a reason to get pissy, but that doesn't mean BB is bad.

That's like saying Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is about Chao raising, when it's not. Even though that's pretty much the most used feature in that game.

Yo cronnoponno, I'm happy for you, I'mma let you finish, but the true primary objective of MapleStory is to provide enjoyment to people in various ways. Just because you get more stuff the more you level up doesn't mean it is the primary objective of the game.

That is coming from someone who leveled one of every sub-job of the four main jobs before pirates and the first exp cut came around, even before fourth job. I could raise a character to 50 and get enjoyment, I could raise a character to 120+ and get enjoyment, does that mean leveling is the primary objective? No, it just means the primary objective changes for each person based on how they find enjoyment from MapleStory.

Excuse the adult words I am going to use here, but lets use porn as an example(sorry). What is the purpose of porn? It is to provide pleasure to the viewier through various sexual actions performed by the actors(or whatever the people making the video are). There may be other reasons people enjoy things like hentai, be it comedy, or for storyline(in the case of it being a movie or something), but the main primary point of it remains the same, it's about sex.

Lets think about Maplestory. What is the purpose of playing Maplestory? Leveling, it is to provide the player with typical game-content through the means of leveling and acheiving(as loose as the word is now), while there may be other reasons people enjoy things like MMO's, be it comedy, the noobs, the social interaction, the low-tier storylines(in the case of it being an MMORPG). The main point of it is leveling and enjoying the content.Just because some random person who has no real name finds enjoyment in playing 50- content in maple doesn't disprove of the game being about leveling.

In Zelda, your primary objective is to kill Ganondorf, although there's usually a lot of other things to do in the game.

Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - rayhovite - 2010-12-06

The devs basically said initially the game was about leveling since there wasn't much else content-wise. But that's changed over the years. There is something for everyone. Leveling isn't the central focus/purpose of the game anymore.

Adding new content for other methods of play does not mean it defeats the original purpose. Let me bring back Sonic, the Chao garden in SA2 was simply something that falls into your category of making something for everyone over the years, however the primary objective of the game was still to beat the crap out of Eggman and generally save the day. The primary objective in Maplestory is still to level, then complete the content that is given when you level. While they may have added much more attractive features in order to keep players from quitting from boredom, they are simply fillers for the anime that is grinding.

Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - rayhovite - 2010-12-06

If that were true, there would be far more high level/postgame content than there is. But there isn't. The distribution curve would have been skewed to the left. Most of the content is for 70 and below.

May yet there still be hope for signs intelligent life on Earth... or at least so said the alien in the spaceship...

Meta has made what is the most obvious point and clarified what I said a few pages back that someone was nice enough to reflect in my personal page. Give Meta the biggest tastiest cookie ever baked by humanity along with the biggest frostiest mug of rootbeer.

This game is a social/adventure game like most MMOs are. I've been in FPS games with rooms dedicated to chat sessions only. Occasionally some unknowing noob would pop in, start a war and then get beat down by about 15 people in a 16 player room.

The game is geared by all accounts for a Level 50 character. Walking, exploring, chatting, merchanting, etc. all require mostly a person Level 50 or less.

I'll actually say this to you Herborist... yes please, stop being a levelhoe and damagehoe and also stop picking on the Heneyhoes as well. Have you ever just stopped, sat back, and saw what people are talking about in Henesys at all? Most are people getting to know each other, form friends, meet new people, share ideas, etc. Some are people even looking for help, looking for something to buy, sell, trade, etc. I've seen guys talking with girlfriends and even family members talking amongst themselves on MapleStory. So don't talk about what goes on in Henesys and about people being Heneyhoes...

This game is a mixture and blend of various aspects. Social interaction, adventure, action, RPQ, and many other genres rolled, kneaded, and baked to a golden brown into one game.

Saying what it is and isn't is not something you can do, nor anyone can do. Maple is what it is... a game that you want it to be but as I said, you have to know where you need to break out of limitations you set for yourself and find new ways to do things.

Leveling and grinding are only a fraction of what the game actually is... however if anything MapleStory is at it's core, a mobilized avatar chat client.

I'm not a "damagehoe," I'm a casual player - a whole sect of people that you insist on overlooking in fair of your own views. If I'm guilty of ignoring anyone but my own viewpoint, then you are doubly so. This entire argument is about you trying to push your minority views on me - and you are the minority, the majority loves BB. Check any youtube video, sleepywood thread, or basil thread.

Maplestory is a video game. Your goal is to level up. What do you do when you play? You level up. If you're sitting around talking, you're not playing, you're sitting around talking. You may come to Maplestory solely for the social opportunities, but that doesn't change that the goal of the game is to level. It's not arguable, and it's a simple question of semantics. You may want it to be more, and it may provide you with more, but the simple facts are that Maplestory is an MMORPG with a persistent leveling system and that is your goal, that is its core. I used to play Magic: The Gathering for my friends, but that doesn't mean the core of the game was the social aspect. You're not arguing what Maplestory is, you're arguing what you think it is. Sorry, but as you've CLEARLY demonstrated that you think, your opinion isn't the center of the world.

At first I was willing to give you a chance, but now I just don't care about your opinion anymore. You're like those people who insisted we stay out of WWII because of the possible backlash. What is wrong with lowering exp? What? You've got some niche situation in your pocket? I'm so sorry some 180 out there will have to grind more, but SO MANY pineappleING PEOPLE will have an easier time playing, a MORE FUN time playing, and you're against it because of the most selfish and idiotic reasons I've ever heard.

You need not respond anymore, your opinion holds no weight with me.

Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - MetaSeraphim - 2010-12-06

It's more of a fact that you don't care about my opinion and choose to think I am saying things I am not. I never once said that faster leveling was bad, I simply said that faster leveling isn't the most wonderful thing in the world like you choose to see it as.

As, pushing my views on other people? No. I simply said that Big Bang isn't all it is cracked up to be, but you choose to ignore all that and believe your opinion is right and mine is wrong. You choose to push you opinion that faster leveling was the only thing about Big Bang on me and everyone else, and make leveling out to be the main purpose of MapleStory.

If you like faster leveling then go for you, that is great. But it doesn't mean that it is the greatest thing in the world, and it doesn't mean I am against Big Bang or faster leveling, you put those words in my mouth.

And calling you a damagehoe was on purpose because it is as absurd as me being a henehoe.

Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - Herborist - 2010-12-06

Being able to play maplestory casually and still level up? Seeing my friend finally getting brandish and brave slash after trying for 4 years? Having fun? Making new friends?

Yeah, I see the big bang as something wonderful and I see all of the bad things you've listed about it as inconsequential crap. Honestly, the whole map rearrangement thing was you grasping at straws.

"Oh noes, dey b movin hene around! Wat da pineapple! Gimme back my henehoe'ing >Sad"

See? Don't lie and say you were going to give my opinion a chance when you obviously only care about leveling. I've never hung out in Henesys and hoed around in all my time of playing MapleStory. It's not only Henesys that got screwed up, but all of Victoria. And as I have said before it's not only because they screwed maps over, but other reasons. But since you only care about leveling there is no point in listing them.

As I said if all you want is faster leveling then good for you, that however doesn't make Big Bang the best thing ever. And there is no need to belittle my personal opinions about the game when I haven't really belittled yours besides saying that leveling isn't all there is to MapleStory.

I gave your opinion a chance, but now I'm just fed up with listening to your half-cocked logic and self-centered arguing tactics. Even if you had a legitimte point that didn't rely on trotting out the most niched and outlier points, we'd still be arguing over kiddy crap. As far as I'm concered, this argument is over. If you have something else to say, take it to the PM's.

Herb... calm down listen to Meta's point... he is right about faster leveling not being the greatest thing ever. In anything you're the one trying to push an idea if there was one. Many will disagree but just as many will agree on differing points about this update. I think you're just mad that people have opinions and differing views that don't line up with your own. If you seriously think you're right about yourself, then go ask the merchants how they feel about the EXP curve, go ask the chat-only players who hang around in towns all day or in houses talking all the time, and everyone else that only plays a few hours a day just for the hell of it what they feel is the best aspect?

Well here's one you aren't seeing... leveling faster is nice, but how the hell are you going to level faster on monsters with increased defenses giving less amounts from monsters equal to your level?

For most of us there is one worry we have about Big Bang that trumps all others, and that is will the stupid pineappling game work for Windows 7 without pomegranating all over itself and us at the same time? One thing I've been wanting for near 15 months was compatibility fixes to be able to return to Zakum and other major bosses.

-sigh- I can only hope we get that. If not, we are seriously screwed.
