You'd eventually get used to the cooldown, it's handy here and there and it's easy to telecast around with it. Dark shock will also get boosted further when you put points into dark genesis.

Blue for boss situations... it's not like you're going to be using reaper on a boss. 20% status/elemental resistance vs. a buff you won't be casting is what it comes down to. As for the extended time on drain vs. blue aura, I just don't see the argument there. The damage lost by having to cast drain a handful of extra times is insignificant (even more so on bosses which dispel). And @ the above... your whole point is "if you're not a serious bosser," yet it's very common now post-BB to single party the "non-serious" bosses (it was pre-bb anyways)... it wouldn't be inconceivable to have a single party, 3 of which are battle mages. The only time where multiple parties are guaranteed are the serious fights which you won't be participating in. When it comes down to it, you're not really gaining much by skipping the blue aura skillset. Noticeable survivability increase > slightly longer buff duration.

I am arguing Adv Blue is not really required for boss situation (not sure about PB and HT) and close to no useless in normal training. Why would you put SP on a skill which u hardly use, I would rather use SPs on other skills which I use more often.

Battle mage guide - Takebacker - 2011-01-01

It isn't REQUIRED but it f'ucking HELPS more than anything else you could do with the points.

Drain sucks d"ick and so does reaper for bossig or even training for that matter.

This doesnt counter my point at all because you arent understanding the mechanic behind having them all on at once. GIVE EVERYONE IN PARTY AN AURA -> LOG OFF -> REPEAT WITH DIFFERENT AURA -> REPEAT -> REPEAT WITH DIFFERENT PARTY.

That's patched, iirc.

Why are you arguing with Angel about the benefits of partying with other BaMs to get their auras, when Angel asked about non-bossing/partying situations?

Takebacker Wrote:GIVE EVERYONE IN PARTY AN AURA -> LOG OFF -> REPEAT WITH DIFFERENT AURA -> REPEAT -> REPEAT WITH DIFFERENT PARTY.
Is this even possible? As far as I'm aware if you're not near your party members or not even online, they'd lose the aura.

Regardless, I'm probably not going to max Adv Blue Aura. I'm almost Lv98, I haven't even used Blue Aura once, nor do I have a point in Adv. Don't have any plans to use it either. I've been almost entirely solo up to now, and alternate between Yellow/Dark. There really isn't a practical use for Blue when grinding, even when in party.

Battle mage guide - Bribery - 2011-01-01

Agreeing with Takebacker. There is nothing better to put points into. I already heal the most I can with level 3 Drain so there's no use in getting more. Reaper sucks too so you might as well max out Blue Aura. Its passive effects are pretty nice (20% resistance to Abnormal Status especially). Plus you don't know what bosses we might get in the future where Advanced Blue Aura would be needed.

It is patched, yes.

Dammit i was it in game. Some dudehad it i saw him. Oh well, the point is still right though. 20% resistance to elements and staus is amazing. Way better than longer booster and blood. I would probably never have blue on then either.

Battle mage guide - Secun - 2011-01-01

Only reason I know that it got patched is because occasionally I'll d/c when I change channels with an Aura on. No idea if that's from running Windows 7 or what.

I am glad someone see my point of view.

There is really little point in saying how good a skill is when there is so little practical use.

I wonder how many players use Adv Blue Auroa actively in either party and/or grinding. Post your lvl and scenario if you do.

Personally, I will just leave drain at 3, reaper at 13, booster at 14, 0 at Adv Blu and save my other SPs just in case Nexon changes the skills again.
I read somewhere where maxed drain will have 120 sec in a few patches away.

If Aura range wasn't so poor, I could try and make a better argument for Blue Aura past the whole 'having all the options open' shtick. Problem is, anyone who would likely need Blue Aura is probably going to be out of range of the damn thing. Or putting themselves at risk by moving from their particular spot just to get the buff. I can see why people would skip on it, since its biggest pro is its passive effect.

I am a little interested to see what ABA can do to help during damage reflect. Easiest way to see would be to put one point into it at level 70, and do BPQ, since it won't lock your skills unless you're 71+, unless they fixed that whole thing already. Might not do enough, but if it saves that one aspie who refuses to stop attacking until he sees the symbol, then its good enough to have up before DR hits. Or it might kill both of you, which would be lame.

TL;DR:

You have to decide for yourself if you want Blue Aura/Adv Blue Aura maxed. No cookie cutters will be found here.

What the hell? Is that why I've been DCing so much when changing channels? CCing with aura on = bad?

CrimsonJohnny Wrote:What the hell? Is that why I've been DCing so much when changing channels? CCing with aura on = bad?

It's caused problems with some people, yeah. I haven't had too awful many problems from it, but others have to turn off their Auras when they CC or else they disconnect.

Battle mage guide - Takebacker - 2011-01-01

I don't get the disconnect thing with auras.

Also i think auras range gets doubled in chaos.

But Resistance characters can't add points into previous job advancements anyway; and in chaos they didn't add anything attack-wise to resistance characters. AND even then, nexon K did another Hot time event thing so that people could get SP resets, so really nothing to worry about at all.
So you might as well just allocate those skill points into Blue aura and take advantage of what other points you do have in it, since Something > nothing =/

Also heard that some battlemages were having problems getting to 4th job advancement cause they couldn't use all their skill points in 3rd job? UNCONFIRMED DO NOT BELIEVE UNLESS PROVEN <<- disclaimer.

Last statement can't possibly be true. Twilight has level 3 Blue Aura. He has all that spare SP in 3rd job. He wouldn't of been able to advance if it were.

What the pineapple type of single party bossing situation do you need survivability on that you would want a third Battle Mage for Blue? Are there seriously no other DPS solutions to your party? Are there seriously a high enough Battle Mage ratio to rationalise putting 3 per party? If you need Blue to survive, you could either get a Dark Knight or you're not ready for bossing. It's as simple as that. This game isn't complex enough where you need an explicit support class to keep you alive at all times. As long as you can survive a hit, you can pot afterward to full health and survive the next hit. It's not hard. Adv. Blue should not reduce the amount of potting you need to do either.

You should be getting Advanced Blue because Reaper and Drain suck and you get passive resist, but not because you're gonna be the hot pomegranate for partying.
