Talk to Nexon about Elemental Wands/Staves - draconius - 2009-05-20

Quote:Gee, do you really have to beg for parties from DrKs when you're doing as much damage as an archmage as a support class? What the hell are you whining about? I don't own an archmage, I do own a Bishop, and I think they're fine without a random damage boost resulting from a glitch.

I was implying the nature of a support class, not the current state of bishops. A support class would be the nature that I described; begging off Drks for the chance to party them at Skeles and getting .5%/hr, just like priests were like in 3rd job. I own a bishop without an ele wand (unlike loddlaen Goggleemoticon ) and I get along fine too. However, the element that is consistent with the whining from archmages is the concept that supply rise and costs decline as a result of bishops flooding the market with their useless wands. This is both extremely selfish and ultimately detrimental for Nexon.

  1. This isn't an 'everyday' event either. It's a one time fix.
  2. Nexon loses customer confidence either way. Hell, they lose customer confidence any time a GM takes a piss.
  3. The growth plan for these items is to be drops from leafre & aqua road mobs if the other versions are any indicator, just like chaos scrolls now drop from mobs. Gacha only is just an introductory phase. When these aren't gacha exclusive any more, Nexon's not losing anything it hasn't already comitted to losing in the interest of making the item more common.

And I doubt bubbles burst everyday in the real world either, however, this simply doesn't compute for Nexon, or us.

Nexon loses customer confidence everyday because of some incompetence, but very few people actually quit. There are people in Bera that I won't name that blatantly hacked their way to where they are right now and sold pendants/zhelms by hacking without ever getting banned, and yet you'll find that this kind of incompetence has lead very few to quit. This, however, directly affects the market and many people. Do you think many who spent 1Bill on their wand are going to continue playing after they watched that collapse by 50% or more? Nexon never said anything about reductions on holy damage. Heck, weren't these things introduced without reductions with a GM specifically saying that "we aren't like the other MSes"? Bishops have a justifiable reason to be able to keep these weapons without reductions, and a justifiable fury if they do at this late point in time. Like many have said, if the reductions had occurred from the outset, or even early on, then no one would particularly care because bishops wouldn't have been accustomed to the notion that there would be no penalty. To introduce them now is poor planning on Nexon's part to a degree that would be unthinkable considering their target audience and the economic situation as is (yeah, I'm sure going to give my kids big allowances so they can Smega the alphabet if I were a parent). Archmages won't quit if no one tells them a reduction is going to happen. The only ones that really complain are the ones that think this is going to benefit them, which it won't. Therefore, the best course of action is to keep it the way it is right now.

I thought you were the one that released the list of monsters that drop ele wands and staves o_O;; (or was it Fiel) This discussion has never been about Ele staves 1-8, or Ele Wands 1-4; it's been about Ele Wands 5-8, which don't even drop in JMS. I hope this isn't where that rumor on Sleepywood started to say the least >_>;; Of course, this would be a tremendous benefit to the community if it were implemented, primarily because it makes it affordable for archmages to get the boost and not the extra Mattk, which makes it impossible to continue a discussion about bishops barring them from getting the 25% since that would be more commonly available. The EWands 5-8 should remain a luxury commodity as always, or this game really does leave nothing to look forward to.

That was me that posted the list, but this is where you're mistaken - I don't give a flying pineapple about the 5 through 8 wands. This is about all of them and if your entire argument is based on a mere quarter of the items impacted you're clearly not arguing holistically.

I don't remotely care if those 4 luckless ones remain Gach only - they're a novely item designed for bastardized way of play. Full Luck bishops are taking away the 5 through 8 staves too.

I'm not arguing with you about Nexon's business model - Neither of us know enough about their plans to be able to form a coherent argument, the only thing we know for fact is they have a history of releasing gach only items that eventually begin to mainstream. Very few things stay gach-exclusive forever so any claim that a change will reduce their revenue overlooks the fact they're continually changing their revenue streams and reinventing ways of getting money.

Edited Note*
I'm going to make this absolutely clear for everyone - Regardless of your justification, excuses, logic or reasoning, fixing a bug is the right thing to do and no degree of argument will change that for me. Until or unless Nexon specifically states the exact features of these weapons in descriptive text, and the reality complies with that text, my interest in the matter doesn't change. Regardless of why you personally don't think it should happen, I simply don't care. I'm sure you can rationalize yourself blue in the face to fulfil whatever self serving gloom and doom sky is falling prophecy you wish to espouse regarding how absolutely essential it is for Nexon to do it Your Way Or Else. Still don't care. Unless one of you has developed unerring psychic powers, your Best Interest rationale is weak and based purely on your opinions. Nexon has screwed people over since day one. They wiped beta after saying they wouldn't - People stayed. They did rollbacks. People stayed. They gave us Tespia, made it completely unusable more than once, then cancelled it - People stayed. They let hackers go insane for months on end, on multiple occassions. People stayed. Anyone arguing that a change that impacts less than 2% of the overall peopulation is going to have catastrophic end results for Nexon is a moron. There is no nicer way to say that this far into the discussion. The entire 4th job population is replaceable in the eyes of Nexon. They have to be, because they're the population that's most likely to leave anyway. Every player in fact is just on the brink of leaving in the eyes of any business - Their goal isn't to retain you forever, it's to get as much money from you as they can before you leave, and if possible to try to prolong that a bit. The last part is a very low priority though when they already know a good chunk of you will be right back as soon as you've gotten over whatever sent you away, or as soon as they release something else you'd been waiting for.

Everything that can possibly be said based on factual evidence has been said. All the different opinions have been stated. Some people like it, some people don't. Gasp, shock, awe. If you really want your argument heard - Take it to the Nexon forum, noone here is going to do anything but give thier own already-given-by-someone-else-by-now opinion.

Now can we all stop beating this dead horse and start beating on Nexon to give us answers?
Far more productive and it's something we all agree we want.

Why should a bishop need to nearly outdamage an arch mage anywhere, even at skeles? You have holy symbol, and the ability to solo and party without needing another bishop/priest/hs mule. This arguement slowly gets turned into a damage comparison only issue, when there's so much more to it and that consistantly gets left out or downplayed. Then when we point out the pros and cons of both classes and we get told that we shouldn't play our class if we complain so much, yet not everyone has the time or will to create a new 4th job character. We thought this release was going to be a great release for ARCH MAGES, yet somehow it became a great release for all magic users in a way that is hurting arch mages who are having trouble getting these weapons due to an inflated demand. These weapons were just a cheap attempt to fix our class instead of simply fixing our skills, that's why they are so important to us and why other classes do not need them.

There are certaintly legitmate arguements from the other side, that include the fact that jms arch mages have it so much harder than us, but honestly, after hearing both sides go at it over and over again, I really think the opposition doesn't have as much of a leg to stand on, since they are arguing a side that would never have even been thought of if the original release of elemental weapons had included the -75%. You've been given the idea that you deserve these as an endgame weapon, nobody ever went around fighting for any luckless weapons above the ones we already have or for holy weapons without getting shot down.

Please don't think like this. I have a 130 Ice Ele Wand and 103 Lit Staff. Eos is level 200 already and from her avatar has at least the 163 Ice Staff. I'm sure some of the others that agree that the wands should have the penalty also have wands/staves as well and derive little to no benefit from having the penalty implemented. What we are fighting for is for all Archmages to have easier access an upgrade which should have been given to every Archmage through updates to their skills. Let's face it an elemental weapon in the hands of a Bishop is one less in the hands of an Archmage. Even the Poison and Lightning ones which are less desirable need to be available as some people would gladly settle for a 10% boost to their Meteor/Blizzard as I did when I bought my Lit Staff. Also you can't assume that some mages wouldn't want their Single target spells to be as strong as they can get them. If the penalty is implemented and the prices don't fall, at least the weapons will still be on the market until the day comes, when all those Archmages who are patiently saving for one, would be able to have the ability to purchase one more readily.

How many bishops use staves 5-8 O_O;; Said bishops would've had to desire to be LUK'd even when it was unpopular to do so (happened, what, 3 years ago?), and stay at it for at least 120 levels, which means they must be at least that high leveled some 1-2 years ago. That's an even more trivial population than the one that collects all 4.

Don't get me wrong, I would personally love to see them release these weapons as drops, but to force their hand into a reduction would directly affect many bishops at this point, which can never be good for a business model. It's synonymous to wondering whether or not adding cyanide to candy is a good idea for Hersheys, because regardless of the effect it'll have, you're going to lose customers.

How many times must it be pointed out that our prices nearly exactly match the ones in MSEA? At most, bishops contribute to a 15-20% increase on prices (now that I have a more accurate number), which simply doesn't explain the high prices. Do you guys really want 6 and 8 wands that badly o_O;;

Again, if they were originally implemented with a reduction, then we would be fine. However, the original release contained NO bonuses or reductions, and only later were bonuses implemented and reductions for respective mage classes. That many bishops likely purchased wands in the interim period likely influenced Nexon's desire to at least be responsible for the mistake it made when first implementing this change.

Why should arch mages outdamage bishops at things weak to their element? Eek /sarcasm

Random interjection - I only recently obtained one and that was because it was given to me. I was quite happy with my Phoenix Wings prior to that Goggleemoticon

@Eos - I know of several instances when a game left a bug intact or only partially fixed it as it was decided to added to certain aspects of gameplay.

Contrary to your understanding of the world, not every Mapler spawns on Maple Island for the first time with a deep seated plan to be a single stat character in direct defiance from everything the game itself repeatedly tells you to do with your AP.

Neither was their a divine proclaimation any time in the past three years that Thou Shalt Be Luckless If Thou Art Bishop. People do in fact play based on their own ideas of what's right and wrong, not neccessarily according to some stat-whores formula for The Perfect Character.

And I've been with this game since it came out. There was a noticeable trend against LUK around 2 years ago, which means that the people that do make such high LUK characters must've been quite high leveled at that time before the switch. I myself stopped adding into LUK around that time as well, which is why there are so many Low LUK mages around. I believe you stated that your own character equips that weapon due to LUK equips?

Regardless, the central fact is that, be that as it may that the Staves 5-8 are rare, the fact remains that we can really see maybe 1 instance of that happening (that conversation on Sleepywood about it) thus far. That won't stimulate price changes, and there are probably more people that have a stockpile of staves and wands than there ever will be bishops that own them. The primary concern we deal with when talking about bishops are of course the wands.

To this, I would propose that Nexon would instead consider the ideas that we've espoused thus far. Make some of them drop, make them a more common gacha, and introduce new weapons. Someone tried to start a rumor that Nexon was trying to encourage bishops to use timeless weapons, and while it was a rumor, it has merit in implementation. Since talk about a holy wand would burst into more QQ, these would be more sensible courses of action. Again, this does not see Nexon responding to the issue of the reduction, but a gradual move away from such discussion. Bishops have a chance to slowly sell off their wands or keep them since there isn't a sudden market perturbation that causes them to rapidly lose value, and still recover some of the money. Archmages get their weapons more plentifully.

Talk to Nexon about Elemental Wands/Staves - godofturtles - 2009-05-21

First of all, demand is an issue that exists alongside price, and even though our prices are similar to msea prices, who's to say that they wouldn't be different if bishops had the -75%? I know I'm getting into "what if's" here, but I think things would be different.

And secondly, I made my statement in the last post with the assumption that it isn't wrong for arch mages to outdamage bishops at skeles even though skeles are holy weak. Bishops use half the cost of our ultimate alongside holy symbol to compensate for this, it's an issue of balance and not who is stronger. Why don't people realize that a bishop and arch mage who both hit 99ks are not equal by any means? Its numerically impossible which is why giving arch mages these weapons is a step in the right direction and denying bishops an endgame weapon meant for another class is what was intended.

Talk to Nexon about Elemental Wands/Staves - MysticHLE - 2009-05-21

No matter who's more justified in this whole issue of balance, here's what I foresee happening if these Ele Wands give the % decrease that they were "supposed to."

1. 80% of your current lukless Bishops are gonna either quit or go make AMs to use their existing Wands.

2. As a result of 1 and since every other Bishop you see nowadays are lukless, you'll have a shortage of Bishops/Priests again like we had before, and then everyone will be complaining about how hard it is to level again (due to lack of HS and whatnot...and not all AMs use HS mule/party with others), and quit - and you nor Nexon will want that to happen.

3. Since people (Bishops AND the classes dependent on Bishops for high level training - i.e. warriors, thieves, archers...f3) are either gonna quit 'cause of difficulty to level or make AMs to use these Ele Wands, the first case is gonna result in a decrease of Gachapon use, and as a result, less money for Nexon and also less Ele Wands in circulation, while at the same time in conjunction with the increased number of AMs, an increase/or stability in Ele Wand price after a while again after they initially decrease in price (due to Bishops quitting).

4. And let's just say that for 1, it's more likely for them to quit than to make a whole new AM.

Be careful of what you all wish for...don't take certain things for granted just out of sakes for being proper. Goggleemoticon

Demand is an issue that will be a double-edged sword on this. The high prices on the wands themselves is WHY some people will stake a 200ticket run at Mushroom Shrine since a wand would pay for itself and dark scrolls would make up the balance of that. If bishops flood the market with their (now) useless wands, they will kill any demand for the weapons for a long time. Many will quit, and this is supposedly going to make archmages very happy. Killing demand also means that the only people that are going to bring in new wands are the ones that make a lucky find in a 10ticket run, or a totally unrelated run for something else. The point is; they no longer become a draw to stake fortunes on because they don't make fortunes anymore. Equilibrium will then have to be achieved, which of course is going to be far lower. Furthermore, the flood we talk about is going to be largely from secondary stat wands. This isn't going to ever solve the problem, even though your class' individuals would have themselves believe that.

How many bishops hit 99K...even on Skeles O_O;; The fact that AMP makes you 20% stronger than a lvl of Genesis that few bishops but many AMs can obtain (for their ultimates) will attest to just how skewed your logic is. Just because your skills cost twice our MP has been the rallying cry for much QQ on the subject. It really does make me wonder if this would ever be a problem if Nexon had never facilitated Ultimate spamming with our lovely NLC pots---but of course that's our political third rail. We have talked about balance on this forum and others, and if you truly think that a wand that drops every 500 tickets is going to be Nexon's solution to all AM problems, then you'd be deluding yourself. These things drop far too infrequently to be part of a "balance" solution, and indeed the only real explanation to facilitate balance is the understanding that potentially the first 4 ele wands will drop as a common drop, not that 5-8 will as well. Those by far are luxury items and not necessities, and in fact we only deem 1-4 necessities if we go by this belief that this is how Nexon is going to fix the class as a whole. Furthermore, I do believe we can find a few more prominent imbalances than the one you're claiming. The fact that shadowers (prior to the patch) had DPM comparable to single target MAGES comes to mind.

rofl WHAT? 80% of bishops won't quit because they can't use a specific wand. 80% of them might whine about it, and maybe 3% will quit, but there wouldn't be a mass bishop desertion because of a damage reduction.

I'm sorry, I just couldn't get past number 1 due to how ridiculously absurd it is.

80% of luckless 130+ Bishops are going to quit their class (or quit entirely...) to train a magician up to a 130 Archmage, to level slower due to no HS, to use twice the MP to train, to be hardly invited to major bosses, just to be able to use this wand? In other words to become worse in every aspect other than dealing damage? Rubbish. By your logic, all the luk bishops should have quit already too since they dont get any benefits from the wands.

Talk to Nexon about Elemental Wands/Staves - godofturtles - 2009-05-21

draconius, would you care to explain, in terms of usefullness, how arch mages come anywhere close to bishops. Assuming of course neither has an elemental weapon. I wasn't here to point out every single significant imbalance, since there are many. But one thing I dislike here is how you've said that since these weapons are so rare, it really doesn't make a difference who gets them since its more of a luxury. Well guess what, it shouldn't be a luxury, it should be built right into our skills, not in the form of a hard to get weapon. This is why I'm so strongly for the -75% and ticked that nexon turned this into a moneymaking endeaver whent here are so many other things they can do to make money that don't involve making things unfairly difficult for a particular class. I'm not deluded in any way (plus 99k was an exaggeration, you don't even need 99k to 1hko the strongest training mobs), I just look at things differently than you and I guess that I feel that you're somehow underestimating the usefulness and purpose of being a bishop.

You own an AM. I own a guild and I own a lukless Bishop with Ele Wand.

Suppose you spent 1 bil on a wand and then found that it is now only worth 400 mil and you can no longer use it and that you will level twice as slow.

Let's say that I've seen plenty of people quit (game or their character) already on my server due to these economical and leveling reasons. My idea isn't as absurd as you think.

Your first option only forces them to leave Maple. How about the possibility of quitting the character and make an AM? How about te possibility of quitting the character and making another character? How come you only have 1 option for quitting and 3 for don't care? Seems like a biased poll.

Also, don't forget there's the whole concept of you thinking you will continue to play but you find out how hard it is to grind back 10 level's worth of magic attack and then quitting in the process.

You all can take what I say for granted and not believe me if you want, but throughout 4 years of Mapling and 2 years of guild leading, I've heard of far too many reasons as to why so many people quit (either their char or MS altogether), and the game being boring/slow/them getting shafted economically is among the biggest reasons.

Also, your poll fails to be directed at lukless Bishops only. Of course most AMs wouldn't care/want it to be nerfed -that's a given. The other classes (who won't personally relate to the further implications of this outcome) who train with Bishops will also whine a lot since many of their Bishop partners will go back to 2 hit KOing instead of 1 hit KOing. But you really missed the point of directing the poll at current lukless Bishops, and even if you did, the points in the above two paragraphs still hold and you cannot dismiss that with a poll alone.

Just from reading the thread and your poll and your arguments I can see how biased you are about this already.

Items depreciate in value all the time. A member of any class buys an item at a particular price and later something better comes along. You sell your original item usually at some loss and get the other item.

How do we know the Luk Bishops did indeed quit to become luckless? How do we know if the majority of the lukless ones now aren't new players or bandwagoners to the class due to its popularity? Also your statement was that the lukless Bishops will quit because they can't use the wands. This implies that they are at least level 130+ in order to use the wands in the first place. I can't see many people and certainly not 80%, quitting a level 130+ character of one of the easiest classes in Maple to level and boss with.

How about te possibility of quitting the character and making another character? How come you only have 1 option for quitting and 3 for don't care? Seems like a biased poll.

Because the "I'll quit" threat only counts if you actually leave MapleStory completey

Nexon doesn't give a purple penis if you delete and remake - You're still there to spend money. Unless you actually leave and are a complete loss of potential money for them you don't even rate them noting, let alone being a threat to thier profit. That is the point of the "I'm leaving" threat, isn't it?
