Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Takebacker - 2014-06-12 Evolite Wrote:How is Kirby a "replacement" for Jigglypuff? Because they're both pink buffballs? That's like saying we don't need Luigi when we got Mario already because they are both Italian plumbers with moustache. They both have multiple air jumps. They both have hard hitting moves that can be punished if whiffed (rest in all smash games vs kirby hammer and kirby down B in smash 4 which are all kill moves). They can both get kills at extremely low percents, either through wall of pain which they can both do, kirby with inhaling/kirbycide, and jigglypuff with rest. They are both among the lightest characters in the game. They are both not terribly good at comboing. What qualities does jigglypuff have that set her apart from kirby enough to be included in a game with an already "tight" roster? Kirby and jigglypuff have more similarities in their functions and moveset than any other two characters outside of shiek vs greninja who are more similar in design than they are in moveset/functions. Kirby however does not have the disadvantage of being yet another pokemon representative in a cast that already has FOUR pokemon reps, which heavily goes against any argument for her inclusion that the developers might have if her uniqueness as a fighter wasn't already in question. What qualities does jigglypuff have that set her apart from kirby enough to be included in a game with an already "tight" roster? As already stated, I think the only viable excuse for not including Puff is that there are already 4 pokemon reps (granted we have 5 Mario reps and pokemon is pretty damn popular). If they can include Toon Link, who was being debated as a clone earlier in this topic, then I definitely don't see why they couldn't include Jigglypuff. It might have similarities to Kirby, but at least it doesn't have the same damn moves. Super Smash Bros. It might have similarities to Kirby, but at least it doesn't have the same damn moves. It's the most obvious excuse for sure, but her and kirby being fundamentally similar in a game design perspective doesn't help the cause very much. I don't think having a ton of reps from one franchise is a bad thing at all. It's only really a bad thing because we have the whole "we have to cut down on roster size" quote from sakurai in the back of our heads which is why we've been arguing this in the first place. The thing about mario's reps though is that they are all distinctly and vastly different from each other. Toon link vs link is a good point, to be honest i completely forgot he was even a character in smash 4 hahaha, but i haven't seen literally anything from toon link's moveset in this game to be able to compare them. I don't think i was on the "he's a clone" side of the argument when we were discussing it before. I wouldn't make the case that kirby and jigglypuff are clones, either. I would imagine, seeing link in person and from what i know from brawl/melee, link has traditionally been built to get the kills head on (his dash attack is actually a viable kill move in smash 4), while toon link has traditionally been built more to camp and rack damage but still struggles with killing. Both in melee and brawl the two characters were distinctly different from each other despite having "the same moves" and i guess that's enough for sakurai. On the topic of having the same damn moves though...are kirby and jigglypuffs aerials really that different? Kirby's ended up functioning better in practice in brawl so i can't imagine it wouldn't be the same if jiggs was in but that's probably too much theory crafting at that point. Super Smash Bros. I was playing the smash bros demo at nintendo world yesterday. I noticed that Pit no longer has his "black" palette swap that he used to have in brawl. Coincidence? DLC material? Super Smash Bros. I played Mega at best buy and I won both of my matches (Against my friends who have played smash consistently for years and are quite skilled). Megaman is not a bad character. Maybe the idiots in smash boards think so, but no one's even had more than 5 hours of playtime on this game, so who can really honestly say? He's basing his opinion on the invitational tournament, in which almost everyone there played really awkwardly and randomly. Especially Hugs. Super Smash Bros. (i disagree that people on smash boards are idiots...) Majority of people are placing him at mid tier based on opinions from the invitational and best buy stuff in this current build. However, no one is fully realizing his potential either. I don't think crash bomber or the saw blades were used even once in the invitational much less effectively. His abilities revolve around locking down opponents with high priority and multi direction attacks from mid range. Absolutely none of those strengths come out in a free for all at all, where the only decent strategy seems to be putting a lot of emphasis on down tilt because it has insane priority and isn't a projectile that only works for one hit at a time so it can break up batches of people easily. The only 1v1 match we got to see, megaman vs fox, was probably the worst match up he could have gotten since fox is REALLY fast and his kill moves are probably easier to land, plus it was dr.pp using him... I think up air has a lot of potential along with crash bomber. Crash bomber -> lock them down with mega buster -> explodes -> get under them -> up air -> juggle with up air until death seems to be possible. If only DACUS was still possible QQ he would be insane with that tech. Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Justin - 2014-06-13 Im not saying EVERYONE at smash boards is stupid, there are some seriously genius players and theorycrafters in there, but some of the tier lists and reasonings behind them that I've seen so far are just... they make me put my face through my desk. We haven't gotten enough data, footage, anything really to say much of anything about any character. Super Smash Bros. Not sure why people do tier lists before they learn the ATs and matchups, which really cannot be ascertained in the chaos of item FFA. It's supposed to be the other way around. Super Smash Bros. I'd be impressed if Nintendo actually stayed out of the atrocity known as DLC costumes and characters given how fanatic the SSB fanbase seems to be, but I would not hold my breath based on an old article that is as vague as that. Means nothing, nor is it vague in any way. People would say the same thing about the leak that predicted pac-man, palutena, greninja, miis, and a few other unlikely candidates. Nintendo is traditionally anti-DLC. Don't hold your breath until it's a thing. In fact, you're more likely going to get custom skins through hacking a wii u than you are from waiting for DLC, so i would wait for that instead. Super Smash Bros. I wasn't really joking, but wasn't being entirely serious either. In any case I am not basing it solely on the invitational, but also as you said on the opinion of other people I've read around the internet. BTW I requested the opinion of those here expert on smash and nobody replied so.... Like I said, having the Mega buster instead of being capable of throwing punches and kicks seems to limit him to wait for the opponent and counter attack, which seems to suck against really fast characters. I'm totally casual to smash so I can't really tell but since Megaman is my favorite videogame character ever, of course I'll concerned his version in the game does him justice. Super Smash Bros. Here are some weapons the Mii Swordfighter can use: Shurikens of Light, Chakrams, and Gale Strikes. You can control the direction the Chakram is thrown, or even make it stall in midair. The Chakram is also the only one of these tied to the side special move, so you can use one of the other items consecutively with this one. For people who missed Thursday due to E3 hype.
