[x] Struggle with Selest and try incapacitating her.

"But...I... Argh!"

You must not shoot her! She's desperate! She's losing herself! Maybe you can stop her!

KILL HER!

"NO!"

Felix ducks to the side and Selest runs into him, sending them both crashing to the ground. The gun flies out of his hand and slides away. He tries to get the upper hand, but she pummels on him furiously. "Selest...stop this..." He desperately tries to defend himself against her blows. She gets through and punches him in the face, and then crawls towards the gun. "Selest! On the news... Your father... He was murdered..." Her fingers wrap around the gun and she freezes. "What did you say..." She spins around to face Felix and points the gun at him. "He was killed... Please, it's over..." She stomps over to him and slams her foot down onto his hand. "YOU LIE!" she yells, losing her last bit of sanity. "GUH! S-Selest, you don't have to do this..." She brutally drives her other foot into this gut. A loud crash of thunder. A scream of desperation. "SHUT UP! SHUTUPSHUTUPSHUTUP!" Selest's drenched hair and clothes soak the floor around her. Runny make-up flows from her eyes like black tears. A flash of lightning. A pathetic attempt at laughter. "Daddy is counting on me! Everyone has failed! I won't fail! I CAN DO IT ALL BY MYSELF!"

The three men stand over Chad as Lizor walks towards them. "Heh, not bad, you bastard." His feet stop mere inches from Chad's face. One of the men hands him Chad's gun. He points it at him and flicks his wrist upwards. "You shouldn't forget your place. I owe you nothing," he pauses, "and you know, it was actually quite helpful of you to come here. It saved me the trouble of having to track you down." Chad stands up and smiles. "And you know, it's quite stupid to tell a man that you're not going to kill him." Chad introduces his face to a firm fist, catching Lizor and everyone by surprise. He dashes past the men before they can react and goes through the door. "After him!" he yells, holding his bloody nose. The young man watches cluelessly as Chad flies by him and through the front door. Seconds later, three men burst out from the back in hot pursuit. He gets in his car and locks the doors. "Come on, baby," he says, fumbling with the keys. One of the men smashes a window with a wrench and gets the door open, just as Chad gets it started. He shifts into reverse and slams on the gas, sending his uninvited passenger flying into the mud. The other two men narrowly jump out of the way as Chad swings around, shifts into drive and tears out of the parking lot. "Dammit."

The small apartment building's third floor hall quickly fills up with people eager to see the unfolding madness. Many of them have already called the police, but none of them are willing to actually help Felix. They're all painfully aware of what happened to the first guy that tried to interfere. Roberta stands in front of everyone and watches her best friend fade away. "Selest... Please stop..." she cries. "I can't STOP! DADDY IS COUNTING ON ME! EVERYTHING IS FALLING APART!" The gun rattles her in hand. "He wasn't lying... Your father was killed today..." she says. "YOU LIAR! IT'S NOT TRUE!" Her eyes fill up with tears. The wind and rain beat on the building. Sirens blare outside as the police arrive at the scene. "DAMMIT! DAMMIT! WHY IS EVERYTHING GOING WRONG?" The sound of the officers entering the building and running up the stairs echoes through the hall. "It's over Selest..." She focuses on Felix again and aims the gun directly at him. "THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT! NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF NOT FOR YOU!" The footsteps grow louder and louder. "You don't have to do this..." She shakes her head violently and screams. "IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!" Another roar of thunder, and then...a gunshot.

...

Everything is gone. Everyone is gone. Nothing but black. The all-consuming blackness stretches on and on forever.

"Is this death?"

No, you are alive. This is your subconscious.

A strange man walks out of the blackness and stands before Felix.

"Are you me?"

You could say we are you, yes.

Felix stares at the strange man and reaches out his hand to touch him. The man takes his hand and places it between his own.

"Are you...?"

Yes, we are.

"Where am I?"

You are in a deep sleep. You are in a great deal of pain right now.

"But I feel fine."

We desperately needed to talk with you, Felix.

"I don't understand."

Then we will help you understand. You must understand and grow stronger. We will start in the beginning. You should recognize this right away.

In an instant, the blackness disappears, and the man and Felix are standing in a bright, clean room.

"Is that...my mother?"

Yes, it is. While you do not remember this moment, of course, it is very important. It is when you and we were born.

"Where is my father?"

Ah, I'm glad you noticed. That is why we are here. Your father is outside the room talking with a specialist. He has been in contact with him many years before you were born.

"A specialist?"

Yes, he is a psychologist that is obsessed with phenomena of the mind. He has been working with your father for a very long time.

"With the voices in my dad's head?"

Correct. Unlike you, your father was always fascinated by the "voices," as you so call them. He worked to learn how to communicate and cooperate with them more. His teenage years were consumed by it almost entirely.

"That's when he met my mom, though."

Indeed, and it wasn't long before he confided his secret in her. She was just as fascinated by them as he was, and she began helping him.

"Whoa, hang on. How can you possibly know all of this?"

That is not important right now. You must understand and grow stronger, Felix. You need to know what your father was discussing with the specialist.

The faces of Rose, baby Felix and the doctors melt away. The hospital room explodes and is quickly consumed by the blackness. Suddenly, the emptiness bursts into many colors and two figures grow out of nothing. The man and Felix stand before Chad and the specialist.

"When will we be able to find out if the experiment was a success?"

"I will run the tests as soon as possible. Everything points to your new child possessing a piece of your voices. It's even possible he inherited an exact copy. Wouldn't that be marvelous?"

"Let's not get ahead of ourselves. First, I have to make sure my wife and baby are healthy."

"Haha! Of course, my friend. Of course! Go, be with your family for now! I will impatiently await your next visit."

Their faces are eaten away and the blackness consumes everything, leaving just the man and Felix once more.

"My parents had me because they wanted to see if I would inherit the voices...?"

I am afraid that was the driving reason, yes.

"I don't know why that surprises me. Nothing should surprise me about them anymore."

Do not dwell on it. You must understand and grow stronger, Felix.

[x] The strange thud heard in Stan's garage. Glitter

Ok, really...

[x] The first time Chad and Rose take Felix to the specialist.

I'm very curious to see the family dynamic before everyone went batshit insane. Were Chad and Rose actually in love and affectionate toward each other? How did they treat Felix, with warmth and love, or with coldness and curiosity? Does Rose mean it when she says she always loved Felix, or was he really just a tool and a science experiment to them this whole time? How did the voices have an impact on young Felix; did they tell him to steal other children's toys or set his favorite stuffed animal on fire? How did he describe the phenomena of these voices to other people when he was younger?

AND FOR GOD'S SAKE, WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT THUD IN STAN'S GARAGE?

Ew, it really sucked that you had to re-write the entry, Kyle ._. You need a big hug, right? Biggrin *glomps Kyle*

Marvelously well done and descriptive, I... I rarely read stuff like this, such as flashbacks, and what a creative way to describe the way every flashback has changed. I'm getting so pumped up for the next entry, take your time, save it under notepad every few minutes next time; no more breaking down please. Frown

My Life Is [A Never-Ending Story] - FelixTM - 2009-09-26

Entry 92. June 20, 2009.

[x] The first time Chad and Rose take Felix to the specialist.

"I don't see how I can't dwell on something like that."

Come, let's go for a walk, Felix.

"A walk...? Where is there to walk in complete blackness?"

There is only nothing because neither of us wish it to be any different.

"You're telling me if I wanted to be in a park, I could change all of this into a park?"

The man smiles. Thousands and thousands of blades of grass sprout from the blackness. Trees materialize from the void. Birds pop out of nothing and flutter through the sky. The Gledenberg Park flows and is recreated in an instant.

It's hard to understand why this surprises you. Are you not accustomed to dreaming? Imagining? This realm, your subconscious, is free for either of us to manipulate at will.

"But I feel like myself. I really feel like I'm standing in our park now."

We wish that was the case, Felix. Unfortunately, it is not. Your body is suffering like it never has before.

---

The ambulance punches through the storm as fast as safely possible. Two men stand over the stretcher in the back, looking at Felix. They fight to stop the bleeding and keep him alive, confused by his current state. Neither can figure out why he passed out so quickly, causing a great sense of urgency.

"Damn, I really messed this up," Chad says, stopping his car along the road. He rubs his head and tries to think of a new plan. He knows he can't let Lizor escape now, or he may never find him. "What use could I possibly still have to that bastard, though..." The storm beats down on his car and obscures his view through the windows. He looks for any sign of another car. No one else is foolish enough to be out in the storm. "I'm sure he snapped at them and has them rushing to finish getting ready. He wouldn't waste his men chasing after me." Chad slams on the steering wheel in frustration. "Dammit. I'm going to have to get my hands dirty."

"Move, move! Get everything ready in that crate! We need this sent by tonight!" Lizor tries to stop his nosebleed while barking orders. "Sir, I understand the urgency, but... In this storm..." the manager says. Lizor slaps him. "Nothing else matters! We ship, TONIGHT!" The men frantically load the crates to meet his demand.

"Chief! I just got word from the Lixmilo Police Department. There's been a shooting in a small apartment complex," he pauses, "and you're not going to believe who they say is the shooter." The Trissany police chief marches over to the officer. "I'm not in the mood for guessing, dammit!" The officer bumbles at the chief's explosive tone and nearly drops his phone. "Kurst! Selest Kurst! Oscar's daughter," he says. The chief rips the phone out of his hand. "This is the chief. You damn well better not be mistaken about this." The officer on the other end assures him they are positive. "Who was shot? What the hell was she doing?" The chief's eyes go blank, and he drops the phone. "C-chief... What's the matter?" the officer asks. "One of the victims is Chad Legard's son." Everyone around the office stops what they're doing and looks at the chief. "Men, this is a much bigger mess than we imagined. I hope none of you had plans tonight."

---

The man and Felix walk through the never-ending park together. Felix looks around in amazement, still unable to accept that what he's feeling isn't reality.

"This is all too much for me."

The mind is a complex thing, Felix. Yours, especially.

The man laughs.

"So if this is my mind and you're the voices, and I'm unconscious right now, why don't you take over my body?"

Felix, Felix. I know you have never liked us, but you must understand we are not evil. You are you, and your body is your own. We exist and can not exist anywhere but here.

"Yet you still are able to exert control if you want something done."

The man nods but says nothing.

"Whatever. This is all really messed up."

Felix, I want to show you another scene. You may find it hard to witness. Are you ready?

"You ask me like I have any choice."

The grass rapidly mutates and changes into carpet. The trees disintegrate and reform into walls. The birds give one last chirp and fly into the walls, becoming nothing but pictures. Chad, Rose, one-year-old Felix and the specialist sit inside the small room.

"Andrzej, tell us again! It can't be right! You misread the test!"

"Rose, settle down. There is no sign of the voices...at all. I wasn't able to test Chad when he was at this age, but I'm certain I would see some sign. Anything."

"Dear, he's right. There's still the chance that they won't show up until he's at an older age. We knew this was a possibility."

Chad places his hand on his wife's. She blinks back her watery eyes and smiles.

"Take Felix out to the car. I need to talk with Andrzej for a moment. I'll be right behind you."

He kisses Rose, picks up young Felix and vanishes through the door. Once she's alone with the specialist, she takes an envelope from her purse and throws it on the desk.

"It's all there. In cash. And you're certain he possesses the voices?"

"Heh. You know I don't make mistakes."

The doctor takes out a bottle of wine and pours two glasses. Rose raises her glass and they toast.

"To the future, doctor."

The wine turns into a black liquid and melts away their insides. Their bodies corrode and everything returns to the blackness. Felix stares at the emptiness, speechless.

Understand and grow stronger.

"From the very beginning... She's always known! She's always only cared about her own desires..."

Yes, Felix.

"And my father... He really doesn't know?"

For a long time, your father believed you didn't inherit the voices. Working with Rose, the specialist kept all the real results a secret from Chad. Her plans didn't have room for him.

"You said 'for a long time.' When did Dad find out?"

He had his suspicions. If you remember from what you've seen of his diary, you helped advance his project past a crucial phase.

"What did he do to me?"

Ran a few tests of his own, so to speak. The details are not important yet, Felix.

"No, I want to know now! Tell me!"

This time, Felix feels like he is rapidly flying through the air. The man remains calm beside him. The feeling disappears, and they're standing in a laboratory with Andrzej and Rose.

"This test proves it's possible to synthetically replicate the voices?"

"I believe so, yes. Your continued 'donations' over the years have greatly helped my research. However, Chad has become more persistent lately. I'm afraid he suspects I know more than I've been telling him."

"Don't worry about him. He's a fool. Just make sure he sees and hears of nothing you've been doing. No matter what he suspects, he'll believe the 'facts' you put before his eyes."

The blackness hungrily devours everything, leaving only their wicked smiles. Until even they bubble away into nothing.

"But...this doesn't make any sense. Dad is the one who was working on a project! He's the one who was trying to do something with the voices!"

Oh, you are quite right. But that isn't how it was originally. It was your mother's scheming that led Chad to start his own work.

"He found out what she was doing?"

I'm glad you're following along, Felix. That is indeed what happened. Rose became more and more consumed by her secret plans. And when Chad found out, he felt greatly betrayed. He didn't confront her about it, however. Instead, he started his own work, and your parents grew even more distant.

"As if they were ever really together..."

Chad loves Rose, and he always will. Do not misunderstand. It is Rose that drove him to do the things he has done.

"You almost sound like you're defending my father."

The man takes his eyes off Felix and turns around.

Hm, we wonder.

I would like to see how Chad's methods of dealing with the voices, but it doesn't seem like it would fit here. It's also interesting how closely connected the man (voices) is to Chad. Oh, and how the voices work, but it is another thing that I doubt the voices will reveal to Felix so easily.

Being uncreative, I'll just pick from your old choices.

It doesn't have to be something you want to happen next entry. Just something you'd like explained/built on at some point.

Also interested in the relationship between Chad and Rose, before Chad found out about Felix's voices. The voices say that Chad always loved Rose, but did Rose ever love Chad? I mean, if my fiance told me that there were voices in his head that made him do things that he couldn't control, my first reaction probably wouldn't be "oh, I love you just the way you are," but more like "err... how many have you had to drink?"

Will shut up about the noise. Sorry. Eek
