Applying what's in the bible literally would be stupid, you don't take morals and rules which were sound and good 2000 years ago and apply them to today. The book was certainly not written by god himself and neither was it passed along faithfully these 2000 years.
The bible does have nice things in it, you just need to know how to adapt things that were from the culture of 2000 years ago and are different now.
@Satellite, if the thread is going out of the good direction you should push it back on track, moving it somewhere would be stupid as this still has nice potential for discussion.

You're incredibly misinformed. Like incredibly. Have you ever considered that church is a social "clubhouse"? My aunt goes to church every sunday, but she does it for the social experience. How much money do you think a church asks for per week?

Well there are those that do pick and choose in the literal sense (E.G. Liviticus) and they're called republicans (BA-DUM-CHING). No but seriously there are people who say things like the only way to know something is write is if it's an absolute morel from god (I'm not saying that's every christian FYI).
