So, is there any way to improve my load time at the start of games?
It's getting really annoying, 90% of the time, I'm last for Summoning. It's really annoying. I realize that it's not an internet problem, but what I don't get is how to fix it. The LoL bugfix page gives nothing for it. Halp.

Router, Modem, Open ports, etc etc.

You're really gonna have to be a lot more specific than that.

Berzerk Wrote:HP + AP. Was troll game anyways, but I did learn one thing. AP Naut just isn't viable. He's much better when they do no damage to him and they panic in teamfights. Tongue

I've been playing him in the same kind of role I play Blitzcrank - 0CS support/tank (laning) into semi-tanky bruiser once laning phase ends. It's easy enough to build him for tankiness with a splash of AP (fairly expensive, though) - Rylai's (HP + AP + Utility), Zhonya's (Armor + AP), Rod of Ages (HP + MP + AP), Abyssal Scepter (MR + AP) being some of the better items. I tend to go for Philosopher's Stone and either HoG or Kage's (situational), then finish my boots (either Mercs or the Movement 3s), then focus on building a Rylai's first. Next is either Abyssal or Zhonya's, depending on where the enemy team's primary damage seems to be coming from. Still working out the math to find out if buying that HoG is worth it or not based on how long a game lasts and how much I can sell it back for. Might be better to rush a Catalyst into RoA, I think. Lich's Bane may be worth using on him too, due to his W resetting his attack delay for a quick, powerful swing with some DoT attached.

I've definitely come to appreciate his kit a bit more, but I dislike his E - most champs seem to be fast enough to simply outrun it if used on its own. His W is pretty powerful, and I love his passive - it's nice to have a free snare. His ult is amazing and has some great tactical uses. As long as I don't treat his Q like Blitzcrank's, I tend to enjoy using it too.

I bought Anivia, but She's kinda tough to use imo. I'm going to try farming then going ham on people when I'm rich.

*sigh* It's a computer problem, not an internet problem.

Cheap solution: make sure all the unnecessary background applications and whatnot are closed.

Real solution: buy a better computer.

Anivia needs her team to be used at full potential, and is heavily reliant on blue buff. She makes the other team miserable if she has blue, but without blue, she's one sad bird.

How can it be a computer problem? doesn't "90% of the time, I'm last for Summoning" usually mean upload / download is slow?

I've this problem myself and after doing some digging in riot support threads I came up with this: http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html . I don't notice a big difference myself but it might work for you. In the meantime ignore the wooden computer haters and start a long winded rant about poor children in Africa, if they dare you to waste your money on something as trivial as better FPS (whatever is associated with good computers, I don't know I'm not a tech savvy)

Or...your computer is slow at loading the map.

No. It can also mean that your computer is slow.

Here's how it works in informal words. You have the client download package. This package usually contains all the graphics, sounds, and the code that lets the user/player interact with the server/other users/players. But like any good, convenient brolaf, the authors compress down the stuff so that you don't have to worry about file size. Uncompressed stuff takes up a LOT of room! For an extreme example, three LoL games recorded with Fraps on a 1690x1080 resolution easily takes up half a TB (1024 GB), because video recorded with Fraps is uncompressed. However, the compressed video files only take up 17 GB. I'm very sure that if everything were uncompressed, you'd quickly run out of hard drive space.

Unfortunately, since all the goodies are compressed, you can't exactly just look at it and retrieve the original information. The computer has to process it first with a "decoder ring", and then load it up in the RAM (or if you don't have enough RAM, your hard drive, but that's a last resort). Now that the information is in the RAM, your computer can easily access the information and use it to render the environment in real time. This is equivalent to you taking your ancient board games from your attic/storage, opening up the boxes, and placing them on a table with all pieces organized, just so that you can play the games.

MapleStory works in pretty much the same way. When loading up a map, it has to first decompress the images that will be used in the map you're entering, and then it reads an instruction set on how to construct the map using the images it just decompressed.

Edit: messed up quote, sue me.

Basically, you're doing the cheap solution I described, but at least you found a convenient tool for doing it.

And I'm not going to sugar-coat reality. If I were to continue playing LoL on my old laptop (I didn't have my budget gaming rig back then), I'm very damn sure that no amount of performance boosting or w/e is going to get it to play anymore simply because the hardware has degraded too much.

Yeah, I've kinda accepted that my computer sucks.
It's only a year and a half old, but I've put some wear and tear on t.
It says that my HD still has 144gb/211gb free, but I don't know how much difference that makes. I already had gamebooster but I haven't been using it. I guess that stuff might help, I dunno. I've been trying to get a new computer for a while now, aiming to get it at the end of this schoolyear. Oh well.

What the.

My computer is like 3 years old and it's still running LoL perfectly O_o.

Try turning down the graphics if you haven't already?

Actually it's very possible for Anivia to oom early game, simply because Glacial Storm is an expensive skill to leave on , and your mana pool isn't very large, so you can't benefit from the % MP5 bonus.

On a related note regarding Glacial Storm...

Do some Anivia players leave Glacial Storm at 1 (and don't rank it until later on) so they can utilize the cheaper mana cost per sec that comes with a level 1 Glacial Storm?

Are you referencing the plat dude that hosted an Anivia AMA? He's the first person I've heard of doing that. The utility it provides is a one-point wonder, but it's more of a DoT than upfront burst damage, which FF and FB do much better at. GS is horribly mana inefficient when it comes to dealing damage anyways.

It's a judgment call imo. There's reasons for going one way over the other, and Anivia seems to be one of the best champions at giving choice on what to skill up beyond level 1.

EDIT: So here's what I was originally hopping onto the forums to type about.

My irl friends started picking up LoL again. Played with them for several Dominion games. The most recent game was a very close, wildly swinging game, where we finished with 7 pts left. We managed to stay our ground with good play using Sion + Taric stun and my trollpole capabilities, while LB and Shaco generally did their own thing and were asses to the lone wanderers, even besting Yorick 1v1.

Another notable game: Tank Anivia. Started with Catalyst, held points with GS and egg, since they were all melees (one was Katarina with MPen deeps though). kekekeke

Yeah, I was somewhat referencing to that plat-ranked guy, but I was just curious if other Anivia players - besides that guy - did it too. Thanks for the clarification!
