Anyone else have stories they's like to share?

Most of what people would have to say isn't repeatable here. You can consult Encyclopedia Dramatica for a hyperbolic version though.

Alas, the Sleepywood, I knew thy well. I still remember it from its early days with oMS in its infant stages and it was Rukmedes heading it, then returning some times later to see Adura there, even remember the whole Pizza Slice ordeal against my then-alive guild (KoM) and Tess had to step in to negotiate peace, haha. I suppose this was bound to happen and kind of sad to see it go down, but at the same time... do not care, at least there is always Southperry... right?

Forum drama will eventually tear small knit forums apart. Happened to the last forum I went to where the admin got sick of all the drama we had started. Unfortunately we couldn't quite save the forum by moving to another site as the new owner faced issues as well. Sad to see stuff like this happen to communities. This probably will be the last time we hear from Sleepywood unless the remaining users are dedicated to bringing back the site.

R.I.P for all the memories, Sleepywood, your class guides, being the first google search result for my maplestory questions, and inspiring my many level 50 characters Tongue.

Based on the latest facebook page, I'm calling it officially dead.

Maursader Wrote:Hey everyone, we have some good news, and some... meh news (it's either gonna make you go meh, or.. sad) - So let's get started with the "meh" news. We're trying to import the old content back into sleepywood, however, due to the limitations we're given with the database, we may have to purge it. Mind you, this content was old and outdated. Alternatively, we've remodeled the Maple Radio forums to similarly match Sleepywood.net (with some additional perks of course)

I'd go for undead. It lives on through others. Maybe a parasite?

Nope, that which only lives in the memories of others is well and truly dead.

I'd make a new account on the site if Adura had nothing to do with the site, my ip was unbanned, and all the joke moderators who used to just post gifs to the fraction dispute subsection of the board were all kicked off the team.

Well, I think a fragment is leeching on to Maple Radio. Draining its lifeforce and that of those around it.

IllegallySane Wrote:I believe it was that Adura would go out of his way to ban anyone he suspects is a hacker, or has played on Private servers. I do know he purposely confronted and demanded to know if Congee (one of the mods) played on a Private server. She admitted to have played on a Private server, and got permabanned for it. It's rather hypocritical seeing Adura himself either made a Private server or plays in one as well.

If you can count this as witch hunting, we can add in Stereo, whom Adura worked his ass off on eliminating the rest of his alt accounts by purposely DDOSing his own site so to draw out Stereo and deleted his remaining accounts.

There's more to the story, I'm very sure of it. I'm only recalling what I DO remember.

IllegallySane Wrote:Adura knew, despite perma-banning Stereo on his main account, he had alt accounts somewhere. Therefore, Adura DDOSed Sleepywood (yes he crashed his own site), claiming Stereo was the one who hacked Sleepywood out of revenge (since Stereo's main account got banned AND his posts got deleted from the public). This of course tarnished Stereo's name and is an outright lie. Stereo had to go on alt accounts to refute such slander, which was exactly what Adura wanted since he drew Stereo out and was able to ban those accounts as well.

This sounds like a movie plot. Not even lying. Very The Social Network-esque.

Oh boy, I miss my times on the Mage section. Ewand debates were glorious back then.

All these Adura stories remind me of the ones I've recently experienced on an imageboard. Admin was (is) also shitty and does stuff behind the curtains to eliminate groups he doesn't want on his site while keeping an image of love and tolerance, pretty sick stuff.

Clashex; used to get 'involved' in those debates as I recall... Rolleyes

All this Sleepywood stuff makes me sad. I feel old.

I recall back when private servers were being abolished from sleepywood, all my guild (Knights of Maple KoM) received a message (those that had KoM in their guild tag) telling them to remove it from their guild or be permanently banned from the website. That was pretty much the end of things for me.

The article needs an update. :/

BTW, the only SW mod I really ever recall being an acquaintance with was Nessa (forgot her SW username). Anyone know what happened to her?

I think the only thing I've ever seriously debated was Holy Arrow vs Heal/that mp absorbing skill

good times

iamflip - I'm not sure exactly what happened to her. I know she dropped off the radar, but it's hard to know what was true/not true about her situation.

After lurking on Southperry for a long time, I guess it's time to pop up again. I was a member on Sleepywood from 2007 until Adura completely put me on global ignore during the tumultous time when a lot of the staff began to leave. While sleepywood was a great time, the admin presence was pretty intolerable and became absurd after a point in time; I left for *that* private maplestory server and then after that got shut down, I kind of never reintegrated myself into the community again, with Maplestory losing its appeal to me after all that drama and politics. And now I finally get closure on this subject, while the once might site, a shadow of its former self, finally dying. I wish I was around earlier to see the archived threads but too bad I guess.

Also a few names I recognize. Hi Hypermug.

Also I can never quit this terrible game I keep playing once a year and then uninstalling it. What are these new fangled things I don't even

I honestly could care less SW is dead and maybe that's because a lot of members didn't see what happened behind the scenes.
Hypermug Wrote:):

iirc it was just one admin who was tasked to archive certain threads that were past a date, but they screwed up and archived pretty much EVERYTHING, including threads from the mod forum. I wasn't around when it actually happened, but they apparently didn't make a backup and there were just so many threads archived that they had to throw everything in one pile, including said moderator subforum threads.

That one particular admin should've never been admin in the first place; but looool, people get put on staff not because of performance, but because of favoritism. Plus, if you're a girl...omg...that's brownie points! ^______________________^

IllegallySane Wrote:I believe it was that Adura would go out of his way to ban anyone he suspects is a hacker, or has played on Private servers.

Lol, he barely banned anyone. Most of the other mods/admins would've jumped on it way faster than him.

Hypermug Wrote:It's disappointing because this could have all been prevented. But oh well, I believe the site has been bought by a certain someone, so it's not dead forever.

SW was dead either way, and the site would not have lasted forever.

The website died in 2008 anyway in my honest opinion. The only time the user activity would spike is when
1. server maintenance happened
2. when most of the servers were being crashed because of the dupes

I may have had my fair share of friends, but iirc I was more pissed off at SW then being happy when I was actually there...so good riddance if you ask me.
And I will stop this rant right here.
