Wait, do Cygnus get the skill that allows them to wear items 10 above their level? I think they do but I'm not really sure, and the CS items only go up to 5 levels.

The Gold Keys go up to 10 levels, Cygnus characters don't get Empress Might, and it doesn't matter because it doesn't stack with the keys.

KhainiWest Wrote:The easiest ways to make bosses..well bosses rather than punching dummies again is to do kind of like what megaman did. Make it movable monsters, big damage, and the actual map nerfing your range. I'm not talking PDR, I'm talking about capping it at like 80k, then have small windows where your range becomes normal. Make it so you have move around, so you have to take advantage of certain timing, besides doing no damage to doing all damage.

I'm all for most of that stuff, except for high damage. It's not because I think we shouldn't die, it's just the problem with....what's High Damage? An unwashed Warrior gets in excess of 15,000 Health, while all other classes are lucky to get 5,000. HP in itself has huge balancing issues. So high damage for a Warrior 1-hits everyone else. If you lower the damage, then Warriors will never die. If you add Potion Cooldown, it adds frustration and boredom (Either "You're going to die eventually anyway so don't bother," or "Run off to the side so you can't get hit while you wait for cooldowns to expire"). If you make the boss so powerful that it just slaughters everyone, you have Akyrum who is boring because there's no point to anything he does.

Then you have the problem with washed characters. You have people with max HP, because of HP Washing. What's fair to hurt them with? Is it safe to say that they're never going to die in a real boss fight because they take too little damage in comparison to their max, or should bosses do a pomegranateton to compensate for people essentially cheating Max HP? There's far too many variables to create a truly hard boss.

That is probably half the reason we still have 1/1ing, which in itself is a horrible way to deal with the problem. Honestly I can't think of a solid answer to it, but it's not 1/1ing. Maybe 50/50 (percentage) would be better, but even there it's not exactly the best answer.

Honestly, hard and fun are not two things that are required to be together. You can have fun without having a boss be hard. I'm not exactly sure how MapleStory would implement a fun boss, but they certainly aren't good at making them hard, so maybe they should at least try. Maybe that's what Akyrum was. Too bad dying every 30-60 seconds isn't fun.

I have like 10k HP without washing and with a rather small amount of %hp on a 151 shadower. He gets hit for ~300 damage by the attacks of Oblivion Monks, and 1k from touch damage.

Should have said "Most other classes"

Don't Shadowers get HP boosts from their skills?

I know that most ranged classes don't get a lot of HP, and considering MapleStory bosses don't give two shits about how far away you are, their HP values count for this problem as much as any other class.

Nexon Korea handing out 140 gear - Takebacker - 2012-05-03

I have 14k base and 20k buffed as an unwashed cannoneer lol

Nexon Korea handing out 140 gear - KhainiWest - 2012-05-03

The point I was making is that 1.5k-2k damage is pretty weak for an ultimate boss.

Agreed, however from what I hear Cygnus can do 50,000 with some of her attacks. That's just way too much damage. It's clear Nexon cannot make "hard" without making it "insane."

Nope. No HP boosts afaik. A lot of defense boosts though. Plus Meso Guard. <3<3<3

that's only reflect, i'd say the most she'd do on any class challenging her would be 14k-ish, and that's with zero defense.

Nexon Korea handing out 140 gear - Rains - 2012-05-03

Highest I've seen Cygnus hit on me is a 8k with dark genesis.

Wait, I saw some random level 7x with scarlion helmet before, if it doesn't stack, how is that possible?

Nexon Korea handing out 140 gear - SaptaZapta - 2012-05-03

The helmet is level 80. It's just the pre-quests are level 90.

Takebacker Wrote:Basically giving certain bosses an array of mobility skills and high movement speed as well as giving them 100% stance so they can't be moved. That would be really challenging lol. All bosses that move currently are slow as balls and easily contained.

Slow being useful? Phh nexon would never do that.

Also bosses should have atks that do dmg based on your max hp (mp for a mage)

Nexon Korea handing out 140 gear - MrTouchnGo - 2012-05-03

Polantaris; I think that there should be a damage reduction based on how far away you are. That way ranged classes actually have a chance of surviving some heavier hitting attacks.

I'm sorry I meant the all stat 18 scarlion helmet.

It's level 90.

SEA has seals, Supremacy Seals and what not, not keys, doesn't it? Those came out before Empress's Might was a thing, so those might stack. Keys and seals are different.

That explains then.

That means in MSEA, KoCs could wear them with a cost of 5000 @cash per month I guess.
