A heartfelt plea - Eos - 2012-03-20 According to the No Script entry on Wikipedia; Quote:The possibility to allow scripts coming from a certain source only for specific main page locations has been frequently requested but is not yet easy to configure. It may be achieved by configuring the built-in ABE module to fine-tune cross-site resource access.[7] http://noscript.net/faq#qa8_10 Looks like this I believe; Code: # google-adsense ruleA heartfelt plea - ChaosCorpse - 2012-03-20 Eos Wrote:According to the No Script entry on Wikipedia; That appears to have done... something. Only 1/3 of the banners are showing up per page however, even after going a step further and allowing *google-analytics.com and *doubleclick.net. Additionally the frame in other pages where it had been blocked before is there, but no adds within; which I can live with I suppose. I'm not sure I want to go much further in allowances though as turn.com and quantserve.com don't seem to have decent reps at all. I realize that this is all through Google anyway, and I trust that you'd never intentionally throw something on us, but I'm still going to keep my precautions to a point even if it means less than average support. Something is definitely better than nothing though, and thanks for that tip in the first place so that I could help a little in some way. A heartfelt plea - KaidaTan - 2012-03-20 Eos Wrote:[NoScript]Yeah, I did that too, and I have a very limited amount (but usually non-zero) number of ads now. I think the problem is with this... NoScript's FAQ Wrote:Notice also that, independently from ABE, even if a certain script source is whitelisted in NoScript it won't run as a 3rd party script on pages whose origin is not whitelisted itself. A heartfelt plea - MetaSeraphim - 2012-03-21 Just reading this thread I don't know if this has been suggested before or not, but if Southperry had more tasteful ads then maybe most people wouldn't block them. I've seen other sites do this before so I know it is possible. Having ads that speak to you or enlarge themselves makes it more likely for people to block them. I've never had a Southperry ad make sounds or move around or otherwise be "distasteful". And I've never had them blocked. Not sure what you're basing this accusation on. People had ads blocked simply because they block all ads everywhere by default. Not because SP specifically annoyed them. A heartfelt plea - Eos - 2012-03-21 MetaSeraphim Wrote:Having ads that speak to you or enlarge themselves makes it more likely for people to block them. Our ads do nothing of the sort that I've seen, so point is moot. The ads are supposed to be semi relevant & contextual and are about as low key as possible while still being ads. Most people who are blocking them are categorically blocking all ads, not seeing ours and going "oh hell no" and choosing to block them. Lacking evidence to the contrary I'd say you're trying to fix the wrong problem. A heartfelt plea - Ladon - 2012-03-21 I can't be the only person who is too lazy to block any ads? A heartfelt plea - Eos - 2012-03-22 Ladon Wrote:I can't be the only person who is too lazy to block any ads? Considering you can practically download browsers with it already built in and turned on, yeah, you very well might be. A heartfelt plea - Eos - 2012-03-22 Yeah those Wikipedia pleas never moved me. They really should bite the bullet and add a discrete ad or two, out of the way. Even with 80% of the people blocking them they'd have to make a killing based on sheer traffic alone and be self sustaining. A heartfelt plea - Fiel - 2012-03-22 Eos Wrote:Yeah those Wikipedia pleas never moved me. They really should bite the bullet and add a discrete ad or two, out of the way. The donation model is the only one that makes sense for wikipedia. Imagine going to the wikipedia article about Enron, and then to see there's an ad there from Schwabb. I'm sure advertisers wouldn't want that. There are many other unsavory mixing and matching of ads and content that would scare away advertisers. A heartfelt plea - Eos - 2012-03-22 Fiel Wrote:Disagree. The donation model is the only one that makes sense for wikipedia. While your concerns are valid, I think there are ways it could be done without interference of that sort. I just think it would take careful consideration and tweaking, but they're a large enough corporation, even as a nonprofit, that they should be able to work hand in hand with an ad provider to devise an appropriate inoffensive and non-competing scheme. A heartfelt plea - Eos - 2012-03-22 Since the plea went up we've seen a great improvement, nearly doubling the ad penetration. This is great progress SP's daily ad revenue is definitely reflecting a bump over the earlier days this month so hopefully it'll keep going strong. ![]() For the curious, this graph shows a weighted ratio of ads to pageviews. Weighted because 3 ads per page means the overall ad impressions needed to be cut into thirds to get an accurate picture of how many are actually seeing them vs browsing in general. It's still a very small chunk of our traffic that's actually generating revenue, but the effects have been huge so every little bit helps and will continue to help. That brief spike was the arrival of the new class, obviously, and the hubbub around it, followed by this plea on the 17th and the drastic rise and plateau. Today isn't done yet and it's already higher than yesterday and about on par with the other two days, so holding strong. Thanks for your support!
A heartfelt plea - Fiel - 2012-03-22 ![]() The chinchilla kingdom thanks you for your kind support: ![]() A heartfelt plea - Loose - 2012-03-23 I fucking love graphs! A heartfelt plea - FangelXIII - 2012-03-23 The only thing I have blocked is the Facebook thing. Still, I hope this gets people to unblock the ads. Even if a lot of the traffic is guests. A heartfelt plea - Dystopiq - 2012-03-24 I have white listed you. Only cause I like you people and I want this site to keep existing.....and because of the Chinchilla! A heartfelt plea - Mibs - 2012-03-24 I never see any ads on here. A heartfelt plea - Eos - 2012-03-24 Mibs Wrote:I never see any ads on here. Then you have them blocked, obviously.
