The risks would outweigh the benefits from nexon's point of view.
1. Just getting the items back is essentially creating items out of thin air( exactly the same as duping)
even if the original owner actually lost his items, there is now 2 copies of that gear on the market. If every item that was ever hacked from someone suddenly duped itself, the market would collapse.
This would effect EVERYONE, not just the people who got hacked.
it may seem like a huge number of people got hacked, but in reality it would be under 2% of the game who actually got hacked.
Fking up the economy in order to accommodate 2% of the population would be stupid.

If there was a method to somehow get back all of the hacked items without affecting the other players in any way, id be all for it.

Do you have any idea how many items were lost to hacking?
Duping all these items even once would crash the market worse than the dupe that crashed it in the first place.

Please read my post again; they have logs, detailing, everything, that, ever, happens, on, their, servers. Just like they can see that a person got a ton of stuff stolen, they can also see that the person is just switching off to another account. And if not, and they get outside help, as soon as the gear hits their account again, they will know, and can ban BOTH people involved.

If they never get their gear back onto that account, then it's the same thing, is it not? Unless they start a new character for the gear, which, while not entirely outside the feasible realm of possibility, is a ton of work for something that might not even work. Also, keep in mind they will also keep address logs of account access.

It's no different from here on the forum where we see someone with a known static IP suddenly log in from a new IP address and start doing horribly out of character things. It's not undetectable. It's not inprovable. It doesn't even take much effort to try to research and verify. If they really wanted to they could even follow the trail of item all the way to where it ultimately went and determine if it still existed before creating a new one, or move the already existing one back where it was originally. Database operations of that sort are idiotically simple. Much like this entire argument.
