I did the Magatia quests shortly after Big Bang. The missing Alchemist of Magatia did not try to recreate himself as the Black Mage (although his wife Phyllia mentions that she had heard rumors from other citizens of Magatia accusing him of such). Just that during his quest to prolong his life/immortality (he was married to a fairy, and Keeny is his child), he joined up with Alcando, and during his research, he simply began to figure out that the magic of Zenumist and Alcando was based upon the magic of the Black Mage.
(It's implied that Dr. De Lang did achieve some kind of immortality in order to be with his son Keeny... There was no trace of him found after the incident. But Humanoid A was found in his place... And he lost all memory of his past life as a consequence.)

I have my own theory.
Maybe the black mage is trying to induce chaos in all the timelines in order to awaken the Time goddess whom created the world?
One of the Temple of Time monks hinted in theory, if the goddess were to awaken, everything would dissapear since everything was created upon a dream.

That would be too epic to be true.
It's definitely somethign more cliche like governing the whole world and making it his slave.

Overlord's theory is amazing, but I'd be more inclined to think that it's something like this too. Probably a mix of both. Reawaken the Time Goddess, find a way to ascend to godhood, possibly enslaving/killing the Time Goddess along the way (Hmmm... From that theory two pages ago... Is Cygnus the dreaming goddess?), then reform the world based on his image and dreams.

The Temple Keeper did say exactly that if she did awaken then everything would vanish.

judging from the similar in the look of time goddess and the cygnus empress, my theory is that the empress is the time goddess' "character" in her dream (i mean when u dream ur a certain "someone")
and with the black mage corrupting her and turning her evil, it'll make it as if she has a "nightmare" and she wakes up. i mean everything in ereve is so nice and calm, that's probably her "home" or her "heaven"

uhm nope. i did ToT quests and some npc stated that all of us are just a dream of the time goddess.
And a little note. Cygnus is NOT the time goddess. Cygnus is the ruler of the maple world, The time goddess created the maple world by sleeping.
