These things hurt everyone, but the people that are hurt the most are the poor people. The standarts of the game became so high that it's nearly impossible to get anywhere as a new\poor player w\o buying ALOT of NX.

How so? The difficulty isn't increasing - the only thing changing is comparisons of damage ranges.

What really hurts is that the hammer, even as a 100% clean slate, could potentially cancel out some of the benefits of Maker. Maker is supposed to allow poorer folk to make some decent gear that can actually compete with things like Facestompers, while also giving the rich a chance to upgrade their gear further. It's fun, allows a lot of customization and requires item collecting and planning. We've been waiting for it forever. And when we finally get it, along comes Vicious's hammer. Now people with a shitload of NX get a chance to drastically upgrade their gear, while others get nothing. Upgrading my 13 att SCG to a 15 att SCG (probably the only thing I'd do with it) alone would make a huge difference in value, something that a newer or poorer player couldn't make use of at all.

If it costs less than 10k NX, and 10k translates to 80mil, it'll be cheaper than forging for +5 dex anyway.


As for the people complaining that it makes everyone stronger... wait what. When has a patch made people weaker...


If your 12 atk glove is suddenly 14 atk, and it only cost you 100mil to do, then guess what... the extra 300-400mil is gonna come from somewhere. Either in the form of massive massive atk glove deflation (likely) or insane glove atk inflation, which can't last because the supply is way higher than the number of decent 10+atk gloves. People won't keep paying the old prices when they can buy a 4 atk lower glove and get it themself.

I still don't see what all the fuss is about, surprise: most other versions of maple have a version of this with others having gachapon give out items with extra slots instead of it being a CS item.

This way is siginificantly better because it makes it more accessible to people already playing, doesn't instantly devalue all existing items, because they can be upgraded to be on par with all equips, and doesn't devalue monster/boss drops because they are all subject to being given the same possible boost.

You left out "doesn't make it a gamble" and "doesn't mean you run the risk of only crappy items coming out with +2".

Actually, it devalues all existing items unless you're prepared to throw quite a bit of money Nexon's way. This is because someone with a bit of NX can easily improve their equips far beyond what was plausible before.

Example:
14 att BWGs are hard to make! A typical scrolling with 60%s ends up as 8 or 10 att. But not with Vicious' Hammer! You now get 9 tries to pass 7 scrolls. Your chance of doing this rises from 2.8% to 27.9%, almost 10 times. Sure, if you've already got an 8 or 10 att BWG lying around, you can upgrade it and not be left behind in this new era of cheap high att gloves. But doing so means using NX.

I read this thread at 6 AM Eastern, but didn't feel like logging in.

ONO VICIOUS' HAMMER IS VICIOUS! I don't scroll equipment, and I buy purple-titled (y'know, scrolled so well the name's purple) weapons with NX I may have. All MTS. Also not super rich or someone to main the FM, so I couldn't give a crap. I probably wouldn't be giving one either if I was one of the things I just mentioned. Reading all of the "MAPLE'S BEEN RUINED!" stuff on Southperry is amusing though. Tongue

Couldn't care about the alien skin either but Cygnus. FINALLY! I wish Nexon spoiled it for us earlier. Rolleyes

Maker's awesome, but I have 26 diamonds. Twenty six. I'll own the FM some day. But right now I'll just work on getting crystals for a future weapon and some equipment. I've been lazy to level, so this'll give me something really good to do when I'm not on my Blaze Wizard. Also, everyone, CALM DOWN about the hammer! Sheesh. Tongue

Depends how you look at it. It could just be worded badly by Nexon, people talk about upgrading their equipment all the time and they don’t mean physically making what the currently have better. But getting something new that is stronger.

I just find it funny that the Hammer is coming out in GMS first. All those sort of items seem to. I wonder how big an impact it will have on the game combined with maker.
