So, apparently Jackal is Jaguar now.
I like how Mashima's handling Tartaros, actually. They're not like Oración Seis or Sabertooth who humiliates everyone at the start and then gets beaten later.
Mashima's able to show off Fairy Tail's unstoppable rage yet keep Tartaros badass with Tempest's suicide and Jaguar's curse.

Gotta admit I was pretty scared it would just end like that. After what I said about Natsu vs Zancrow I thought this one would be even shorter. If all its needed is not to touch him, then Wendy should have a chance, Lucy can back her up with spirits like Scorpion and Aquarius that fight with spells and not physical attacks and she can use Vernier to enhance speed and defense? the only problem I see is how they'd block those explosions though, seem way too powerful to withstand.
Must say I am more interested and excited to see Lucy and Wendy deal with Jaguar (damn MS make up your mind already) than to see Natsu again.

Wendy isn't really suited for it either. The only attacking spells she knows, are her roar, that one she learnt from Polyrushika and everything else she copied off natsu.
The real problem is, now there's nothing to stop him just doing a huge explosion and destroying the entire place in one shot (like he did to the council).
I do agree that Lucy is a better fit to some extent though. If she can hit him with Eterano Metoria, I'm sure it'll do the job.

Pretty disappointed I gotta say. Mashima is pulling once again what he did with Zancrow's fight, Natsu starts fighting, gets beat by some magic trick, inmediately learns a way around it, victory.
The fact Jackal kept blocking Lucy and Wendy's attacks shows he would still get damaged from them, Mashima should just have got both girls to think up a strategy and make him retreat... to fight Natsu in the future.

The fact that he was even able to hurt natsu with fire magic at all is impressive.

Gonna have to call bulls'hit on happy surviving that. Natsu "barely" wins, and now that a suicide bomb is in the mix suddenly he has the same durability as his partner? Durability that only really comes with the fact that natsu has fire eating abilities which happy doesn't have? F'ucking stupid.

Neh, Jackal was basically out of magic to the point where he couldn't even move. The explosion was probably weaker than all the ones before.
If he had left it between chapters to show happy surviving, then yeah, I'd be annoyed too, but it was like half a page so whatever.
edit: And happy has shown that he can survive through relatively strong magic on the same level as the rest of the regular fairy tail members when they all attacked laxus lightning lacrima way back when he was using them to try and destroy the town.
Since a single explosion wasn't able to take out Wendy Natsu or Lucy, it's probably fine that happy survived one too.
I wonder if Jackal is actually dead, or if he's going to respawn like the other guy that Laxus fought.

But then why would he expect the suicide to take down the whole town? Yeah sure the outskirts probably would have been fine in that situation but happy was still in the exact center of the whole thing. Plus this is apparently different from magic so happy shouldn't have enough experience with that to be able to survive. He should at least be on fire or something since that wouldn't have happened to natsu for obvious reasons. I dunno man it's all pretty shaky, and i don't usually doubt the fairy tail logic.
I think the way he was talking makes it seem he won't come back. He wouldn't have said all that stuff as if it had any sort of weight if he knew he would just be revived. Either way FT is making a pretty heavy dent in their forces without very much effort.

He still can't eat most magic. I guess there's something that isn't explained yet where dragon slayers can eat other types of dragon slaying magic (and even then, that clearly has limitations because otherwise Natsu and Gajeel Vs Rogue and Sting would have been very boring, with each side eating every spell the other cast), so at minimum it is quite likely that it was fire magic.
That, and if it was just a case of "dragon slayer eats generic magic", then wendy would have been able to do it too, but she didn't even try when being attacked, which seems an odd thing to do if you could just eat it (and become stronger as a result, as dragon slayers do immediately after eating magic).

At the very least Happy should have ended in the same state Laxus and the Raijinshu did. Heck why did Jackal die so fast, his transformation, which I asumed would be the release of all of his power should have made this fight last at least another chapter, yet it didn't even last half of it.
There has to be a hidden plot behind all this. I don't think Mashima is one to make arcs which consists of basically 2 opposite forces faceing each other in orther to pull/stop some evil plan. The way things are going FT will just roll over Tartarus and come out with a few scratches so either something is revealed halfway that changes the course of the arc or... IDK.

I guess they're going to send that guy who ko'd laxus and co there, so that mirajane can get his blood (since she promised they'd make laxus better).

Edit: Also, mangastream screwed up on page 8, Jackal already killed Org Roshi a while back when he attacked the magic council and killed all the members there. Anyone have any idea who they meant to say was killed?

Ultear shouldn't do, and Jellal never actually went to the council. He never left the island, the amount of stuff he managed to do with just a thought projection is ridiculous.

This is partly why I was assuming it was just boasting by jackal. It's so stupid. Why not just have a method whereby the people who use it aren't affected? Like a shielded building or something. The council obviously wouldn't have invented a weapon that completely robs everyone of magic without a way for themselves to get around it.
You don't need to invent a whole new class of magic to get around something so simple.
