Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Evolite - 2014-03-26 Lozmaster Wrote:The ore club shot tornados in uprising rather than the giant ball(ish) shaped projectiles the other clubs fired, and the picture says it shoots tornados, so yes? Derp, I forgot to read. Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Lozmaster - 2014-03-26 Takebacker Wrote:Just sounds like a more badass star rod. That's not a bad analogy. Clubs were more of a melee weapon with no regular ranged attack in uprising (only dashes were ranged for most clubs), which could translate well to smashes = melee+ a ranged attack and regular attacks are melee only. Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Dark Link - 2014-03-27 These are starting to be posted around 3-4am MDT. At that point I'm already in bed ![]() ![]() Sakurai Wrote:Pic of the day. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Razmos - 2014-03-28 Quote:Pic of the day. Here's the Prism Tower stage for the 3DS version! The battle begins on ground level right in front of the tower. Quote:You'll have to climb the tower by securing footholds like these moving platforms! Quote:By the time you reach the top, the sun is already setting. The view from up there is quite a treat. Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - KhainiWest - 2014-03-28 f`uckin lol'd Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - ShinkuDragon - 2014-03-28 so true. "fight in front of the pokemon center!" "which of the three?" Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Lozmaster - 2014-03-29 So I wonder if the game is actually going to get any stages that aren't blatantly reusing assets from other DS/3DS/Wii/Wii U games to get it finished quicker. Not that it's a problem as such, but it's a massive step down from brawl where lots of the stages, while clearly inspired by the respective series, they were almost all made from scratch for the game. I think it's better this way. They don't have the time to be inspired and create stages with dumb hazards or huge maps or other things that make it unplayable in tourny/casual, so they would ultimately end up using already pretty/awesome material while slapping on a few platforms that may move around and have different layouts which ends up creating a balanced set of stage choices. If you just want different sets of platforms, the level editor will always be there for you (or maybe not because it might not be returning). Could do with more options that I could speculate on, but you know they'll never be happening because rushed development. Far as I can tell, the smash bros tournament scene is made of people who are either never going to move on from melee or will move on to smash bros U regardless of whether there are 5 combinations of boring platforms or 50. You know i never actually considered why custom stages were never standardized for tournament play. It's REALLY DIFFICULT to make a custom stage that can be accepted so easily and have the kind of matchup depth that official stages have i guess. There's project melee acting as the bridge too. P:M players = melee low tier mains who realize they can do everything they'd want to do in melee, brawl players who realize their game is terrible, and people who just like the game in general. The stages don't have anything to do with whether people will play, i agree. I think a metric f'uck ton of people are going to at least try SSBU, including melee die hards. Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - byakugan - 2014-03-29 People will have to move on from Melee eventually. We are in the 4th generation of consoles already and if this one develops as good as the 3rd gen did (mainly PS3 and Xbox) compared to their early days, melee will start to look pretty bad, faste if more good fighters are developed for these consoles. I don't see the problem in people still playing / being attached to Melee. People still play Street Fighter II competitively in tournaments and that game's been out helluva lot longer than Melee. What weird counting system are you using? Even just going by Nintendos, it's 6th (NES,SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Wii U) and they weren't even the first console makers by a long shot Smash bros stayed so successful because no-one other than Nintendo (who are probably the oldest surviving company still in the videogame business at this point) could even hope to make a mascot fighter with such a range of diverse characters. Lets all laugh at sony smash bros to prove the point. Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Takebacker - 2014-03-29 byakugan Wrote:People will have to move on from Melee eventually. Lol dude you have no idea how good a game melee is. The fact that it's as old as it is and has seen more growth in the competitive scene in the last year than the rest of it's existence speaks for itself. Melee is now part of the MLG circuit again and after the major tournaments this year it's only going to grow more. To say that people are going to have to move on from melee eventually at this point in it's life could not be more wrong. Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Lozmaster - 2014-03-30 Let's not kid ourselves. Melees growth is almost solely due to project M being mostly completed over the last year bringing it back into the spotlight. It won't be growing more in any seriously significant way, otherwise it wouldn't have taken 10+years to do it. Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Takebacker - 2014-03-30 Lozmaster Wrote:Let's not kid ourselves. Actually, no. 100% of the growth is attributed to two things. 1) The smash documentary inspiring tons of retired veterans to return as well as a massive wave of new players, and 2) Melee's struggle to be played at last years evo where it was the most watched game at the event causing it to be picked up again by competitive gaming TOs for the tournaments occurring this year. Both of these things only happened within the last 6 months of 2013. People don't joke when they say melee never stops being a new game. aMSa the yoshi player came into the scene at last evo and he placed NINTH IN THE WORLD at apex this year despite only having less than a year of competitive experience and playing a low tier character like yoshi. He consistently and convincingly tore apart a ton of top players that no one expected him to beat with technology and a play style no one had seen before. Everyone was so impressed after the tournament they had an entire event where they pit everyone they could against him in 1v1s and they all lost. 2013 was also "the year of luigi" because we had a few really really top level luigis coming out and showing what luigi can do against fox/falco. When it comes to awesome videos like wombo combo and rom m2k vs shiz, there was one moment that happened not even two weeks ago (lord vs s2j falcon round robin) that got >50k views on youtube in less than 20 hours and people say it's better than wombo combo. As the game gets older people come out and further advance the meta game to show that melee only gets more balanced with age. P:M did have influence in that it created the bridge between brawl and melee causing the competitive scene for the series as a whole to increase, but it hasn't had anywhere close to the effect that those two things have had. Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - kayeyearekay - 2014-03-30 iirc, it wasnt much of a struggle, much more of an insult. after nintendo wouldnt put up the funds, the smash community raised the capital themselves, AND turned out the highest ratings. and nintendo STILL wont sell GC controllers in america Super Smash Bros. I don't think you're fully informed on what happened. http://youtu.be/RaTpiP7CJKM?t=3m18s http://youtu.be/RaTpiP7CJKM?t=6m44s Smash community didn't raise funds to make up for what nintendo didn't provide. Nintendo NEVER EVER provides. However, reading the comments on that video, apparently Nintendo is officially supporting melee for MLG and that's huge news. Also, play-asia has the license to make GC controllers so you can still buy them there. |
