Does this spells the end of leechers? - DrRusty - 2009-01-28 Dusk Wrote:Newties, which is one of the best party training spots for the levels it is intended for (105-14x) is always full of leechers =( . Does this spells the end of leechers? - Link - 2009-01-28 O_o I hope this doesn't screw up training. Lol. If this gets to JMS before I start training again, I'll be mad, since I plan to be training with my good friend, Tomo, that has a Bishop. Does this spells the end of leechers? - Dusk - 2009-01-28 1. The entire point of my post was to argue how it should work. The fastest way to train should not be afking on a rope and letting a mage blast the screen. Lazy leechers shouldn't be training faster than is possible for a grinder who used that money to buy good equipment. If parties where all members contributed was the best way to train, I would be happy and would have nothing to say. 2. How do you expect a 3rd job Outlaw to train at Anego or Bigfoot? 3. There would be fewer mages at Newties if everyone wasn't clamoring for leech there. Newties is only one of the many places mages can train. Edit: there wouldn't be so many mages if they weren't so imba training wise. DrRusty Wrote:Everyone does have an equal opportunity at equal leveling speed. It's called partying a mage. Everyone also has an equal opportunity to kill a boss. It's called bringing an attacker. Whether you buy leech or not, partying a mage is going to be the fastest way to level. Whether you take attacking classes with you to bosses or not, taking an attacking class is going to be the fastest way to kill it.You and I are never going to agree on this one. I don't believe in this "one class should have a massive advantage here so the other class should be balanced by having a huge advantage there" crap. Bosses should require all kinds of classes, not just the ones with the highest DPS and a few supports. And training should be on a more equal level than is now for every class. Making a mage an absolute requirement for fast exp is stupid. Does this spells the end of leechers? - Takebacker - 2009-01-28 Dusk Wrote:Making a mage an absolute requirement for fast exp is stupid. I think we can all just agree that NLC pots rape the pomegranate out of what things should be, instead of it being like this. That might be how you think it *should* work (keyword: should) but, sorry, that is not how this system actually works. If I want to level fast, and I have the resources available, why wouldn't I aim for the fastest levelling method currently in existence? I don't see why people expect leechers to just stop leeching because they hold an idealistic view of how people should be playing this game. If you don't care to level like that, don't do it, and don't bash people who do. They had to obtain the mesos to pay somehow. As for map availability...just because an AM/bishop wants to leech doesn't mean a map magically opens up for them. All of us have to look for maps. Does this spells the end of leechers? - Dusk - 2009-01-28 *facepalm* I know how the game actually works. I've been playing long enough to do that. Don't tell me my thoughts and ideas are invalid because that's not how it actually works. I know that leeching is faster than training, and that's why people do it. I think it's more contructive to talk about what should be done than how things already are. DrRusty Wrote:There's also squids, gobies, vikings, sharks, and so on. You're not forced to train at newties. If all the newties maps are full, then just train somewhere else. That's how you build control with your char in any situation. If you sit and attack a single newtie all day long, you'll end up being no better at control as any leecher. From level 90 onwards, there isn't a single map in the game that compares to Newties in terms of exp for Outlaws. CWK (and maybe Himes, but that's with a completely different build) caverns are the closest you can get, and that's like a 20-30% slower training speed. I don't train at Newties because I like it. I'd be at Gobies if Outlaws had any good mob skills. Also, since I have to bottom 90% of the time, since I can't party at 98 and I train during hours when a lot of people are on, I'm moving back and forth, not attacking one Newtie >_> nannerz Wrote:That might be how you think it *should* work (keyword: should) but, sorry, that is not how this system actually works. If it wasn't then there wouldn't be so many leechers. I don't bash leechers for leeching, because I know they're simply using their available resources. Instead of scolding them for doing it, I'd rather see the system changed so they can't do it nearly as effectively. And clearly there are a lot of people that agree with me on this point, because they're changing the way exp is split accordingly. As for map availability, Newties is one of the best maps to leech on. Less people leeching = less people crowding that one map. It doesn't matter, though, since we should get the mini-dungeon eventually. Does this spells the end of leechers? - Rick - 2009-01-28 I just want to make a small interjection and respond to the idea of non-Magicians charging Magicians to go to bosses. When the Arch Mage or Bishop spends their entire time hanging on a rope using absolutely no pots and doing literally nothing, be my guest. Until then, it's not a fair comparison. Does this spells the end of leechers? - Dusk - 2009-01-29 Okay, I concede that leechers are not the only reason Newties is so full. But the exp distribution change is a real part of the game. It's actually happening (or at least being considered, which pretty much means something is going to happen); it wasn't just another one of my dumb ideas. Does this spells the end of leechers? - DjDisko - 2009-01-29 Gobies is very sexy btw as are squids. I personally gained more exp at squids on my ranger then I did at newties. I think i got to Newties around late 11x. That was when the exp was better. I was soloing and on 2x most of the time after level 10x. I still solo alot. There are only 13 Anegos in mardia we have many ranged players and the hacker problem of course. Um Big foots are actually harder to find then Anego's in Mardia due to hero's owning most of them they actually kill Big foots faster then ranged players when they have a 2h sword. (Edit: Please don't get upset at the hero comment I made I am just stating the observations I have made.) Also don't forget the hacker problem again.

Edit:This new forumla seems interesting if they bring it to gms I hope they work out any kinks it might have. Does this spells the end of leechers? - chrisloup - 2009-01-29 you guys really miss the point. leeching will stop once self training exceeds the benefits of leeching. stuff like: guaranteed equip drops. (eg; down xxx monsters by self), or inflict a total of XXX damage , get a gacha tix. (imbalance, but same concept). mobs that are few in number, but high in hp/xp (to eliminate the mobbing aspect). eg: imagine manon has an infinite spawn + 10 times more xp. no safe spots whatsoever. Does this spells the end of leechers? - Dusk - 2009-01-29 Leeching won't stop, but the number of people that do leech will decrease. Right now it's not just lazy bums who leech, it's everyone who has the money and wants to level fast that doesn't have take any moral standing against it. I partied with a Bishop at Red Wyverns for half of my 9x just because training otherwise would have been incredibly dull (I was still sniping that one Newtie) or slow (compared to leeching) otherwise. Does this spells the end of leechers? - Yukiko - 2009-01-29 Kaasoljoyyx Wrote:Surprise no one posted this from sw yet If these numbers are correct, no one will bother partying anymore unless they're leeching since the total exp is less than 100%, even with the party bonus. If two people are seriously training, it works out better to just train yourself. :f6: Which makes absolutely no sense. Does this spells the end of leechers? - TamilTiger1 - 2009-01-30 DrRusty Wrote:Originally Posted by RDal I think what he meant was that even if the attackers charge mages 8mil an hour to go bossing, the mages would still actually have to do everything to survive and pot while the leechers from magician class just pays that fee then hangs on a rope. Can't really compare those 2 at all, except at anego/big foot leech buying form an attacker which they do charge price for. Magicians do buy leech from these attackers. Even if the mage pays the attackers to take them on boss runs, whats the gain for the mage here for paying? If this was done, the mage is considered a buyer and wouldn't get any splits anyway... it would only have been for exp which is much faster for them just training. The leechers that leech of mages do gain from it because they get levels from it faster. Replys to other posts: There is faster way than leeching. Its attacking while leeching at same time. I think these leechers should attack at bottom newtie map while leeching, it makes the training a lot faster for them but they're just completely lazy its their fault. I think DrRusty has already made very good points about this. Partying someone who's best at training will get you fastest exp. Partying someone who kills bosses fast will get you faster kills. It will always be like that until they get rid of reasons to make certain jobs and balance everyone, if this happens there really wouldn't be many reasons for having so many different classes and the game would probably die out. I think thats what makes this game fun. The advantage of some classes lets you do something and advantages of another class lets you do something else. Newtie maps are the main training ground for most high levels, mage or a non-mage. There is also skelegons but people perfer newties for other reasons such as the map setup, it requires lot less moving around and you don't get blasted for 3k+ damage. It will not be free even if leechers dissapear, if you want it to be free all the high levels should quit. This map is not just for 105-140 because the levels after that don't have anywhere else to go except skelegons so they will still remain in newties until level 200 if needed. If you got there first then its your map, but if they got there before you its theirs... you can't complain that you can't find a map because of leechers...its the best map for most people and they will all want to use it. Like you already said, this will be fixed with the dungeon idea if it ever comes here. Does this spells the end of leechers? - Mudkip - 2009-01-30 if u gotta hit to leech exp, then whats the point of partying o.0 Does this spells the end of leechers? - Chompy - 2009-01-31 DrRusty Wrote:Mages sell training and attackers sell boss runs. Sounds good2me. Why would a mage buy a run though?:f6: Like if we are talking skillbooks- Angel Ray for example People do sell Angel Ray Runs. But normally no one cares to run on Zak runs (unless they want a zhelm) Does this spells the end of leechers? - Kabanaw - 2009-01-31 Quite the arguement here. I just want to say I have been KSed by a few leechees who did it only because they had someone to leech and I didn't, so they had priority. So even though not all leechers are like that, yeah, they have affected me. It's tricky to figure out a way to stop leeching but not partying with an AM. One way this could work is if you afk for more than 10 seconds without attacking a monster and doing XXXX dmg depending on your level, you stop recieving exp. This is how I think it should be, but as Dr. Rusty said the fastest way to 120 is to leech from 70 to then. Does this spells the end of leechers? - helena225 - 2009-02-17 DrRusty Wrote:I don't see why people are so anal about others leeching. It does not effect anyone except the 2 people in the party. As soon as they gotta start training on their own (unless they wanna buy leech to 14x and beyond), they're just going to end up quitting. I know PLENTY of people like this. They keep buying leech and just end up stopping at high 12x or low 13x to try and get into a bossing zakum guild. After they get their fix on zakum, they try to train again complaining "OMG THIS TAKES SO LONG". I wouldn't have so much a problem except Nexon does rank players. People are so anal about not letting off-ranked players into guilds, boss runs, etc. However, these players are basically illegitimate because they didn't train on their own. Why should someone who leeched their way from 80-120+ be ranked higher than me, who hasn't leeched? :f6: |
