To add onto this, I think the thing people want the most is a cube-less server, to them, that's "old school" maplestory, and as long as they get that factor right, it could bring a pulse back into this corpse that has developed stage 120 power creep Possibly v148 this week? - Polantaris - 2014-03-18 Eos Wrote:I think you're wrong. I'm sure there's a few people who would genuinely enjoy the old school Maple, because there were people who got Lv.200 and enjoyed the entire grindfest that it was back then. However, I do not think that 99% of the people who complain about current Maple, say old Maple was better, and cry for this Pre-BB Server would really play it after the initial thrill wore off. You'll get a few, but not enough to warrant the creation of the server in the long run. Sure, some people genuinely miss it, but I doubt most of them remember truthfully how bad it was. Most of the arguments towards it are about PQs, which only take you so far and after a certain amount of playing them they get boring again. Above that the current PQs aren't even that bad, and if they put a little effort into building a party they would have the same thing they complain about the game missing now(making friends and all that jazz). The only real difference between old PQs and new PQs in terms of community and all that, is that the new PQs are not required, while the old ones definitely were if you valued your sanity. I really doubt a "Rewind" Server would be decently populated for much more than a couple weeks, a month at the most, which is why I'm sure Nexon will never do it. Even if they made a Pre-BB/No-Potential server for GMS, I don't think it would really do much. People say they want it, but I would be surprised if more than 10% of those people actually meant it, and would actually play a server without their broken gear for a prolonged period of time. It's just too ingrained into the game's society at this point. People talk big, but don't follow through. Just look at how many people have sworn off Cubes, then later complained that their Cubing went badly. It's all talk. Possibly v148 this week? - LoveVictim - 2014-03-18 I don't get the bashing some people do to those that prefer the older versions of this game. It's all subjective, some people like the cube era and all the new classes and jobs, and some people liked it when it was more simple and yet difficult, when it took 20 or some in a team to take down an end game boss and all the interactions that came with it. There's no right or wrong, it's all personal preference. Possibly v148 this week? - byakugan - 2014-03-18 If a pre bigbang server meant that there would be no potential system, I wouldn't give a pomegranate about the hugely tedious experience curve. The reason why I played MS back in the day was because I enjoyed making my character stronger, but while doing so you have to inevitably compare yourself to other to know wether you're trully strong or not. When potential came out, it shoot the scale of power through the admosphere, and beyong with every update to it, making it impossible to catch up unless you spent enormous quantities of money. I'm sure others will come and say you can play this game without spending a dime, but those people will have to accept that in order to avoid spending money you will have to spend an even greater amount of time instead. I did it in the past, but after being hacked 2 times in a game that can't guarantee that it wont happen again I realized how much of a waste that is. Like I said one time, to play MS you need to either spend time or money, and since time is money, you can consider MS the most expensive game ever. That'd be like bashing me because I like the flavor strawberry and you didn't. Is your opinion more worthy than mine? Some people liked the things about pre-BB that other people hated. Some people like the way the current game is that other people think ruined it. No one has contested that preBB was a grindfest or that numbers were smaller or any of that. The only thing being contested here is whether or not that was fun, and that's entirely up to the individual so the arguing and bashing is just silly. Compounded by the fact this is all speculation on something that has almost no chance of ever mattering or happening. Possibly v148 this week? - Jamesie - 2014-03-18 Eos Wrote:How can perspective be nonsense? It's not necessarily this threads but other threads in the past as well as other experiences. Perspective can be wrong when it's based on the wrong ideas. Example: PreBB was balanced. Well, it was more balanced, but it was not balanced. You're right, but at the same time you're still wrong. And that's when it bother me that people praise preBB. At the end of the day it doesn't really matter since it's just differing opinions. Possibly v148 this week? - CarrionCrow - 2014-03-18 It is not that Maple was necessarily a better game in the golden days, it is just that in was in a better place culturally, and that goes for the entire mmorpg industry. Granted, that is by my preference. I enjoy a bit of a grind if that goes for the entire playerbase and not just the free players. When every thing took longer and the game was popular, you always had time to encounter a handful of talkative people before you moved to the next location. Going back will not work though, not for me as a old veteran with a severe case of nostaliga addiction, and certainlty not for the younger players with their notion of what an online game should be and all the self entitlement and instant gratification that follows with it. Possibly v148 this week? - Typhoon - 2014-03-18 In my opinion, I think it was more fun to be weak and have that awe about the high leveled people. Because it wasn't entirely about damage, the higher the level someone was, they were in a sense stronger. Now you can be 50+ levels above someone and have twice their damage. While I don't agree that an old MS server would be a complete failure, I don't think it would be the same at all because people have been there and done that. The awe factor is gone. Nobody would be "omg he's level 140, let's go stalk him" like years ago. It would just be a people trying to relive the nostalgia, only to find it's not going to be the same. However, I'd still play it. I'd enjoy doing competitive PQ's where it took specific classes, like LPQ when you needed a bandit or sin with dark sight, or a ranged character like a bowmen to shoot the one bloctopus that was too far for mages.
