Animes to watch? - dowie - 2013-09-09 A lot are pretty comical like Seto no Hanayome Haiyore! Nyaruko-san kore wa desu zombie ka Ugh I just went through Usagi Drop's anime and I must say the production was fantastic and it really gets to ya. I totally wouldn't mind them doing more for the rest of the manga. Animes to watch? - Mandalay - 2013-09-09 http://www.animetake.com is also a good site http://www.animedreaming.tv/ for streaming Also, if you're not opposed to 40 minute films a few slice of life ones I recommend are: 5 cm per second Kotonoha no Niwa (The Garden of Words) Hotarubi no Mori e (Into the Forest of Fireflies' Light) Animes to watch? - Dudewitbow - 2013-09-09 dowie Wrote:Ugh I just went through Usagi Drop's anime and I must say the production was fantastic and it really gets to ya. Some of my friends like them, but are there any decent ones or ones with stories (vs "plot") most harem stories are usually for the hijinks, and in anime, where they have a small amount of episodes, all you get from it is hijinks. i haven't watched many harem anime because of that, but i can recommend mahou sensei negima (manga) the story starts with a magical 10 year old teacher in an all-female school (see: hijinks) before getting more and more into the dragonball genre. it's been called "dragonball meets harry potter meets love hina" Animes to watch? - Derosis - 2013-09-09 KhainiWest Wrote:...How exactly does that point to a pomegranate anime? Even if he was to die tomorrow, there's currently 16 people who cannot only draw it, but have access to the entire story. The illness isn't even anything to worry about because he got some nasty throat infection that simply persisted. A stalling anime usually causes a lot of lag between the manga and the anime. And luckily the Manga is paced well, though the anime is poorly paced and should probably just be better off catching up with the manga. But as this is related to the Anime purely well discuss the Anime. The manga, on the otherhand, is very good and I enjoy reading it. I'm saying this because the hours he works on his project alone is insane. He gets very few hours of sleep and no human should have to work to that extent. As the story is limited to that of the manga, the Anime is capped and hurt by the manga alone. Unless they decide to speed up the pace of the Manga, the Anime will stall and start to be filler season after filler season. Quote:Yeah, 20 years of growth, but it takes you less than a month to read. I say that because by the time you're through the chapter with chopper you're WANTING to catch up. How many anime's do you also know about that have books written by uni professors trying to figure out why it's so successful? Because Shounen = Kid Action Anime directed for boys. But it's really attractive to girls as well. Hell my cousin loves the One Piece manga as Nami is her favorite character. Most of the younger cousins in my family, which is a lot, read a lot of childrens mangas and their top reads are usually One Piece. They've been caught up yes, but there was nothing wrong with the Manga. I'm trying to get on point with the anime so sorry if you think i'm talking about the manga. It's just, attention span kinda goes out the window with the anime. It's too drawn out and it's probably due to the pomegranatety american dubbing and censoring that ruined it for me as a kid. But I still can't get into watching 300+ episode animes. It's longevity kills me. But trust me, I'll read the f'uck out of some One Piece anyday. [/quote] Quote:If you want to a quick short story, that's fine but one piece is it's own novel, a story you grow with, that you get attached too because of the detailed world building that no other manga even compares. It has this light hearted attitude with spikes of bad assery, where the philosophies they throw at you, such as slavery, world government corruption, the meaning of freedom, don't make you think, they make you feel those view points. The best way to describe it, Goku was a naturally naive/silly protagonist, although luffy has that same nature, he has this more instinctual method of pushing his emotions. He doesn't try to justify his goals beyond short term simplicity. He doesn't have to give any long speeche's, just quick short liners about how he just has to kick your ass. Luffy is there to simplify things, while the world around it is indeed dark and complicated. It illustrates whats wrong with our world today. But those kinds of details are too indepth for the anime. One Piece is pretty deep storyline and history based. The fact that Gol D. Rodgers treasure is hunted after is another dark reason behind our world. LIke I said great story, but not really great for anime adaptation. Too much detail for too little time. Quote:Then One Piece doesn't deal with silly romantic tensions, they don't deal with the morality of whether they kill their enemy. When they defeat them, they break them, they break their ideology, they don't have to take their life, which brings so much depth to so many characters. It isn't "Oh, this isn't my final form" each villain has an advantage to his own, one that isn't simply "I over power you". It adds even more depth to the combat, even the female's in one piece aren't useless, in fact Robin is pretty goddamn broken. F'uck you I like my Slice of Life Romantic Tensions. And most animes that deal with death, or anything like that usually do it in good ways or have good reasoning. Some just do it because of other reasons. Death is dealt differently in every anime. Quote:But the one thing I love about one piece the most, is the foreshadowing. The ultimate goal is to become pirate king, yet a battle, 100x greater than even the Whitebeard war, at the summit, where luffy's strongest ability is turning everyone around him friends. Where usopps lies turn into truth throughout their adventures, how the void century is the key to it all, and lastly, that there is no good or evil, just freedom and peoples perspective to honor it. Ultimately, luffy doesn't want to conquer the world, he doesn't want riches, he just wants to say "I'm the Pirate King, and I can do what I want". Luffy is something that Children want to strive to be. Someone that can accomplish his goals and be something in the world. Like I said, I never said the Manga was pomegranate. Just that the Anime is not good for something this paced. The manga is a masterpiece and should stay as such. But if the Mangaka dies, it only hurts it cause the original mind of it all isn't there to guide it. Which has caused cancleations in manga. ex Spice & Wolf (which is great btw). Don't take this the wrong way. One Piece is an Amazing manga. Just a really Bad Anime. It's being drawn out with fillers due to the Mangas indepth storytelling which is good, but bad for the anime. I hope that explains my reasoning. Another example of Novel to Animes bad translations was the AO saga of SAO. AO was an amazing arc in the light novels, but terribly executed in the Anime and was incredibly rushed. But One Piece isn't doing nearly as bad as SAO did. Animes to watch? - Dudewitbow - 2013-09-09 I should also respond to harem, the fact that most harem use very generic character types with a semi generic and predictable story gets a bit tiring after a bunch of them. generally, the better harem-like shows focus less on the harem, but more on the character depth because of possibly using a very unusual character in the bunch(generally the MC). For instance, the much praised Monogatari series(e.g Bake, Nise, Kuro, Neko) is praised for its odd and unique minimalist art style, as well as an MC that isnt as totally generic as all of the other harem MC's(the MC is more openly expresive about his feelings to others, but of course there is a limiter to himself he checks of) compared to a generic MC lead whose generally undecisive, gets in ridiculously lucky situations, fails to pick any girl at the end and much more. In general, RomCom is more preferable than Harem(some romcoms have harem' like feeling to them without the overly expressive females in the heat after the MC explicitly.) Araragi is horny, gets into ridiculously lucky situations because of his "shadow", and has some generic values. But he's unique due to the sole fact that he is a character executed differently than others. His hornyness is that of a teen, who has sexual tension out the ass, and has a background story that is really only explained in the Light Novels. The anime ended at the end of the younger age part and ya I went through the manga first. (e.g I love the MC in hagure yuusha no estetica, despite the show having a terrible storyline). If it wasn't for him, the show would be pretty terrible. How the hell do you come up with this? This is your basic underlining point, which is why I'm disregarding the rest of it. There are 76 filler episodes throughout the entirity of one piece. That's 611 episodes, 76 of them are disregarded, that's 12%. You're trying to put the blunt of your argument on a 12% statistic. Not only that, but majority of the filler is 2-3 episodes after the main arc, and into the transisition to the next one. And some of the filler is actually good. G8 was fantastic and the longest "filler" to date at 11 episodes. In fact, you're pretty much shooting yourself in the foot if you bring up how slow fishman island and punk hazard has been, it's the same pace as the frekin manga when it was releasing. Then you go on about how "dark/indepth" one piece is making it a bad anime, do you know how political ruroni kenshin was? How death note questioned all forms of morality, how code geass pretty much replayed the role jesus christ had? Overall, one piece follows the manga not only accurately, but presents nearly the same information that the manga does. So for you to say it's simply a good manga and not a good anime is kind of..silly Animes to watch? - 案山子 - 2013-09-10 One Piece is as popular as it is for a couple of different reasons, and none of them being that "it's the best thing everrrrr!!!" (Note: Not saying it's bad, but a shallow, baseless, subjective reason like that is pretty much laughed at) 1: One Piece is old. It started in the late 90's iirc, when most gamers and anime/manga lovers grew up. Because it picked up on the perfect audience that will ever exist for these medias and never stopped it continues to hold that fanbase. Another similar franchise that is based largely on this is Pokemon. If Pokemon was released TODAY it wouldn't be nearly as popular as it is now because wouldn't have been released "at the perfect time". 2: One Piece is silly enough for young children, but has aspects that can appeal to older audiences. There's tons of "wtp is this pomegranate...?" in One Piece, but it works for kids, but still has moments of depth that an older viewer can appreciate which is important since most of its audience is getting older, just like with Pokemon. It helps that there's SOMETHING there other than nostalgia and time-investment to keep them reading and/or watching. It's essentially one of the "perfect shonen series" -- It has the retarded, ADHD characters that kids relate to and see themselves in and want to pretend to be when they're playing with their friends, but it also has cool characters. It's not really complicated whatsoever. Animes to watch? - Niernen - 2013-09-10 How about someone makes a separate thread if they wish to discuss One Piece? I am not going to watch it right now, maybe during summer when I actually have more time or a chance. I would rather watch many shorter ones an experience all the different animes than one uber long one. Animes to watch? - 案山子 - 2013-09-10 You should watch Fooly Cooly (FLCL) if you haven't already. It's about 6episodes or so and it's really entertaining. It's pretty much a classic. G8 was fantastic and the longest "filler" to date at 11 episodes. Code Geass played the pace correctly. It's not difficult to see the world around it, it's much more simple. In my opinion it's not nearly as difficult to understand what's going on. Morality in Death Note? A teenager was given the ability to do death to any person he pleases. It just so happens that it was a smart kid with a God complex. It's just a kid that went on a power craze. It's the beginning of the Meiji era where they're starting to reach new cultures and samurai are going poof. It's obvious what politically is going on. I'm gonna stop working backwards here. I didn't mean to include the word fillers. That was something I was going to edit out later, but I got caught up doing work for my dad so I forgot about it. Animes/Light Novels/ and Manga all differ greatly. Some people change the storyline, some simplify it, some people do total 180's. One Piece's pacing and storyline hasn't change at all, if only a little. To give an effect of all whats going on in 20 minutes for 3 chapters or so worth of information is too difficult. Hell, Code Geass and Death Note even did 1 chapter episodes to explain some significant information. But, if we cut out the fillers, One Piece is doing an Episode every 1-2 chapters. Considering the breaks he has to take for Movies and for compilations with other studios for One Piece X *** one shots. It's going to end up being in the thousands of episodes before One Piece even finishes. Hell, the Blu Ray collection when that f'ucker ends is probably gonna be thousands of dollars lol. I'm not saying what's wrong with the story, it's that it's too damn long for an individual to get into at this point. They might as well read up to that point, watch fillers as they want, and then start watching from when they catch up to the shows current season.
