Sadly, it took me Echo and a Cheese to get up this high.

I calculated that I should be able to hit 199,999 (it came out at around 204k with the damage formula), but with only 2 minutes to get a shot this is the best I could pull off =/.

Hitting 100ks on Newties/Skeles now without special buffs and whatnot. Fun stuff this new damage cap Big Grin.

Well you still smoked me out of the water. Out of curiosity, I used cheese cheat as well with Sharp Eyes to see how high I'd hit. I saw a 133k, but couldn't screenshot it in time.

Inaccurate formula is inaccurate. Assuming you're still using what I think you're using lol.

Which still may very well be the case....

Ohwell. I saw a 199,0xx but missed the screenshot, so I'm 99% sure trying Meteor Shower out on something like, oh, Stumps, would have given me then damage cap.

I plugged in his magic and int into my calculator and the numbers spit out were 166522-201189. Which means he's not going to be hitting the damage cap on the phantoms.

The good ole' (.005979 x magic)^2 one. I know it's not 100% accurate, but since it's +/- 3kish damage (as evident by Harrisonized's calculations), I figured it would be fine. Of course mdef isn't factored into it at all, so I knew with a +/- 3k-4kish amount I'd be CLOSE to the cap at Phantoms, while near guaranteed at lower monsters.

When I'm playing around with numbers that close to something I rarely try to get exact; just go over by 5k and you're fine Tongue.

Miserable attempt explaining why almost all magic formula becomes unreliable.

You get that effect for exponential equations.

Oh I understand the math behind it, but I'm not talking about extremely technical specifics. I'm just saying that when you calculate damage that's 4k over the damage cap of 199,999, it's almost negligible. I knew the formula was wrong, and I knew that if I shot over the desired value by several thousand, I would be in the neighborhood of the cap.

I don't know, am I making any sense? Essentially when you're down to calculating something that's maybe 1/40th of the damage you're trying to do, I felt it wasn't a big deal using the incorrect formula I've memorized, and making adjustments where necessary with my magic (ex. Echo).

Use this one:

MAX MAGIC DAMAGE = ((Magic²/1000 + Magic)/30 + INT/200) * Spell Attack * Amp * Elemental Staff
MIN MAGIC DAMAGE = ((Magic²/1000 + Magic * Mastery * 0.9)/30 + INT/200) * Spell Attack * Amp * Elemental Staff

I could honestly care less. I'm 99% sure I can hit the damage cap on monsters with much lower MDEF than Phantoms (with the appropriate buffs), and I'm so close anyways that I'm not going to even bother spending 5 minutes calculating to double check, or 8 hours leveling if I'm five magic points away. Like many, I've got so much going on in life right now that that's not my priority.

Anyways, I didn't want to make this whole thing into a page-long math debate; I'm simply posting damage that, from one glance, can tell almost anyone that I'm capable of hitting the damage cap. Doesn't matter if I didn't show it here; I could care less. Let's move on.
