Drugs - Shidoshi - 2011-02-07

I was away from this debate since it was from the start stated that they didn't want people come and white knight their drug use.

However I have to agree completely with Vu (Kalovale), addicts have a really hard time admitting they are addicted. Until you try and stop smoking for a while you won't see how addicted you are to something and you'll normally think you are in control.

Take MapleStory, I played it a lot and didn't consider myself an addict. Only after reducing (and finally eliminating) both because of life and of nexon's randomness I can see that I really was addicted to playing maple.
Normally it takes some external force to get rid of an addiction, my friend's mom only got to stop smoking because he started a firm policy of not talking to her at all while she still smoked (and he really held on to it).

I'm not here to discuss the effects of weed on human health but I may come back if I can access my powerful article database from my university by proxy here (yes it's powerful) to back up my claims.

Drugs - Chewy - 2011-02-08

I think the reason why weed smokers deny the addiction is because they want it so badly to not be. Weed isn't addicting in the way cocaine or heroin is addicting. It's addicting in the way that ice cream or chocolate is addicting. At least, that's how I see it.

I smoke weed myself. Usually once a week on the weekends with friends. No alcohol or anything else, though.

Alright guys, literally every drug thread i've ever seen descends into this pomegranate.

I DO NOT CARE AT ALL IF YOU DONT LIKE DRUGS OR THINK PEOPLE WHO SMOKE HAVE PROBLEMS WITH ADMITTING ADDICTION, I'M NOT SAYING IT'S WRONG OR RIGHT, BUT IT IS NOT THE TOPIC OF THIS THREAD.

Your thread, your rule.

Drugs - Rob - 2011-02-09

I think it's okay to discuss it. As long as it is in a fairly civil way. It's been nice up to here, and by far the best drugs thread we've ever had.

I agreegree. Except there aren't that many drug takers on SP, though it may be deceptively populated.

It hasn't "descended" into anything. Kalovale is having a civilized argument with good points. Another thing that gives it a bad rep is how defensive a lot of weed smokers get.

^^^^^^^^

Totally agreed.

Drugs - >Pineapple - 2011-02-09

I don't really care about people that smoke weed since it's not all that harmful or anything, and I think it should be legalized as there's no real reason for it to be illegal.

Drinking is whatever, it's all a matter of self-control.

I plan to stay away from drugs, weed, some alcohol, and tobacco my whole life. I don't think of drinking and smoking weed as ''wrong'' but I just don't like the idea of it. As for things like drugs, that's a given.

People can do whatever the balls they want as long as it doesn't affect another's ability to do so.

Drugs - Erich - 2011-02-09

I think the only reason weed is banned is because of the behaviors associated with it. Weed smokers get defensive as pineapple because they're addicted. And then there's the whole gateway theory, which is mostly true. It's dependent if you get it from gangs/organized crime, though. The smoke can't be any good, either. But, the only way I can really see weed going legal is if they rat out at cigs and booze as worse.

But really, the defensiveness is so damn annoying. I have people in my shop that smoke it, and they're like "it dun do no bad@@@!@@@!@". You use it and are possibly addicted to it. How can you say that it's okay if you might have the addiction yourself?

I think my other complaint is at substance abuse period. Does your life really suck that much that you need to use something to try and escape it? I get there may be a few that use it for truly recreational purposes, but you're always going to be judged by the majority, and the majority is big time stoners.

Drugs - Takebacker - 2011-02-09

An addiction that does little harm and whose (almost non-existent) side effects are (arguably) treatable, while still being an "addiction" to those who will admit it, isn't big enough of a threat on most smokers lives for them to admit that they're addicted to it. Even though it's easier to quit weed than most other drugs of the same category.

Drugs - Erich - 2011-02-09

If it does go legal, it should have conditions, though. Things like restrictions of working under the influence, and something that makes charges against users under the influence have more legal weight.

Drugs - Takebacker - 2011-02-09

The current methods of testing such a state is premature at BEST though. We're getting off topic again.

It descended to a state in which we were off-topic for a good amount of time. I personally don't mind if we are addicted or not, but it's just boring, not what I created this thread to discuss.

Drugs - Panacea - 2011-02-10

I wouldn't exactly think bragging about whatever you did while you were high, which made it all that much more entertaining, is "fun."

But do as you wish.

Drugs - Homerowed - 2011-02-12

Where did you get the idea that we were bragging? We are just sharing interesting experiences and stories of when we were high, giving advice on drugs to those who need it, and just discussing drug use overall.

EDIT:

Didn't want to double post. Today is another one of those lazy days when you wake up at one in the afternoon, don't to much for most of the afternoon. Then you smoke as the sun goes down, and just listen to music and watch good TV shows all night. There is no better way to waste a day in the dorm.

Khoi Wrote:I smoked weed once, other times, I don't count it because it was indirect and I was just inhaling in the smoke. The last time I smoked, it was about a couple months ago over at my friend's apartment. It was me and a bunch of the guys, and we were in all in a room, just smoking it up a bit. Passing the bong around in a circle. My first time wasn't that bad, it just felt odd because my throat felt weird, and I coughed a bit. I must say that I prefer drinking alcohol over smoking weed though.

I used to drink weekly, now it's barely that.. When I did drink at my most, I used to go to a really classy bar (classy as in the music was stuff from the early 70's - late 80's, people playing pianos, and expensive beer that actually tasted like heaven) about 5 times a week for a couple months straight. I haven't been doing that at all because I am running low on money, and all of my friends are busy.

You sure it's weed?

Wow how did I miss this thread before? o_____________________________O

I can't believe I just found yet ANOTHER person with crohn's. I smoke to help cope with
the pain and it helps me to eat even when my stomach says "uh-uh". As far as alcohol
goes I just flat out quit drinking a year after I found out about having crohn's (almost a decade ago).
It isn't worth drinking only to have your stomach bleeding the next day every single time.

Acid is a try once type of thing just so you can say you've done it, I had mixed experiences the
time that I tried it. Half good and half really really bad (I took a double hit).

Shrooms are a godsend when you can actually hold them down. My wife and I used to trip all the
time on shrooms we'd get from Iowa city where they are rampantly available, not so much anymore
since we've grown up quite a bit over the years.

I'm psychologically addicted to smoking sure, definately not physically addicted since that doesn't exist with marijuana.
When I was a bit younger I had to stop smoking for a couple months for personal reasons and the only issue I had was
being cranky for like a week. You almost have to smoke if you have crohn's or you will starve, at least from my own
personal experiences from having it since I was 16.
