Empress turns all Cygnus Knights to the dark side and therefore Grendell seals all Cygnus knights away -> Nexon deletes all cygnus characters.

Pretty sure most people were expecting something cliche. But to be fair, what isn't cliche in video games nowadays?

And I am very okay with it, it didn't need something so super mega complex or anything, it's simple, it's pure, it's to the point, and it doesn't ruin Cygnus Knights storyline. It's perfect.

Well, of course. At the same time though, Spadow's explanation includes something that I would consider even more interesting - mention of the Knights of Cygnus having serached for and found the World Tree. Spadow's explanation seems to imply that everything that happened to the Knights happened upon finding the tree, or very soon afterwards.

I always knew there would be a "Yggdrasil" in Maplestory. I can see it as the final dungeon where the Black Mage is at its pinnacle. Maple leaf/syrup monsters would be hilarious and yet awesome. Monocle

What I hope gets explained is... why do we have to defeat the evil knighthood in the future instead of just ¡saving them in the past after finding out about all this?.

Maybe once we defeat Cygnus she tells us the location of the world tree, which holds the key to defeating the black mage, or this could turn into another optional boss fight like pink bean? One that adds nothing to the storyline. Then that would totally sux.

She escapes with the captain knights when she's defeated, from her animation. She's still possesed afterward.

Seriously, what's the point in fighting her then? I mean, other than for items. I hoped you'd be able to somehow "save" the future, and yeah, why not also making quests in the present to prevent it from happening?

*sigh* Maybe I'm just expecting too much from the storyline of a game such as MapleStory..

Well it doesn't explicitly show the captains, but I assume the colored orbs represent their souls, and they get sucked in by the cross behind her as she's defeated and subsequently disappears.

Perhaps Cygnus's defeat animation and subsequent escape are a prelude to yet another chapter of MapleStory that is post-Chaos?

Remember the Black Mage still hasn't shown him/her-self totally even in Chaos. Also don't forget MapleStory contains two futures of MapleWorld that are present in the game... Neo-City/Neo-Tokyo where the machines attack and take over Toyko through the computer core and androids Core Blaze, Dunas, Nibelung, Beurgemot, Oberon, and Aufuhben, and the future where the Cygnus Knights have been possessed and corrupted and in turn attack and destroy Victoria Island.

You then have someone breaking through the time gate of the Past releasing Pink Bean into the world as well.

1. Who actually released Pink Bean into the past?
2. How did Empress Cygnus get possessed or turned to evil?
3. Who programmed the computers and androids of the future to attack Tokyo?

Remember Dr. De Lang also created Humanoid A as well but he tried to re-create himself as the Black Mage.

Here's an interesting theory I would consider:

Dr. De Lang, with the help of the Black Wings, succeeded in re-creating himself as the Black Mage but was overwhelmed by the Black Mage's power and mind turning him into the current Black Mage. As a result he programmed Humanoid A to go to the future and sabotage Core Blaze and the Neo-Tokyo robots to overthrow society, while at the same time sent Dr. De Lang to the Time Temple past to release Pink Bean to create chaos in MapleWorld's past ensuring his own rise to power to create a society based on monster hunting. At the same time, Empress Cygnus was possessed by the Black Mage to create an army of Knights for the future to destroy MapleWorld. In the future, MapleWorld became too dangerous resulting in Dr. Bing and other Omega Sector personnel transporting thousands of refugee Maplers to the past using the Time Ships which sparked the Alien Invasion incident. In the future due to this the Cygnus Knights, now possessed, attack MapleWorld forcing many Maplers to flee using Dr. Bing's ships and specialized armor.

Anyone up for a good ol' Final Fantasy 1 style Time Loop plot?

Even though the deatth animation supports his theory i doubt he has any proof other than that.

It would require Cygnus to have been defeated already, which I doubt will happen in a looooooooong time.

I think you misinterpretted some things.

It was a Black Mage supporter who, trying to resurrect the Black Mage, failed and brought pink bean instead. It was probably a black wings member.

Empress Cygnus was looking into the World Tree (aka the Center of Victoria Island) and was caught in a trap that the Black mage set up. She and the knights subsequently had their souls stolen and became puppets to the Black Mage. This could indicate that the World Tree will be the end game location. (If they ever decide to end Maplestory)

NeoTokyo is non cannon.
Can't say much about NeoCity since I've never really bothered to look into it any.

And you misunderstood the quest text for the Magatia quests. Some members of the Zenumist and Alcadno societies THOUGHT he was trying to be like the Black Mage. And DeLang said that he had discovered Magatia's secret (that it was built off of the Black Mage's earlier experiments). He decided to use the information he learned from studying the Black Mage's alchemy in order to become immortal to stay with his family forever. So he built an adroid body that he put his soul into while he destroyed his lab and all of the Black Mage's notes so that no one could use them ever again.

I don't think they'd end MapleStory with the World Tree. Knowing them they'd find something else to add in and expand the storyline.
