Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - Sarah - 2010-12-04 And suddenly I'm feeling better about Big Bang's features. Its funny you mention that, because I remembered enjoying jumping through that too, and just the other day when I was in Nath for HobPQ, I decided to jump through it to see if I can still do it. Sad to see it gone =( Lots to do on maple between now and big bang. Time to make some preparations. Using shortcuts to gain power makes you literally one thing that could be agreed upon on a lot of Maple distributions. A Noob. Seriously, what have you accomplished if you have gained everything with minimal effort? Absolutely nothing. (I'll gladly accept a warning on this next comment... so if it offends you... up yours) There have always been alternatives for everyone in the game to get levels and play but people were too stupid and whiny to utilize them all. Many people who do nothing but ABC whine that they spent so much time getting to Level XYZ. We have had plenty of things to do but problem is people like to listen to bad information and then follow that information as if it's a bible. Maybe if people would apply themselves more, be a little more open, and not confine themselves to a set groove in the road we would have never had this problem to begin with. Saying something is too anything (difficult, time consuming, etc.) maybe is a sign you need to try a bit harder like the guy who did get ahead. Using shortcuts to gain power makes you literally one thing that could be agreed upon on a lot of Maple distributions. A Noob. No offense, but Maplestory is a giant grindfest with a chat engine attached. I've played it for 5 years, and at first I didn't want to believe it, but I've come to accept it. Nothing about it is difficult or challenging, just time consuming. Press button X to attack, button Y to jump, and button Z and Q to heal yourself. Mix in copious amounts of time, and tada! You're level 200. Anything that lessens that grind is OK in my book as long as it's not blatantly against the rules. Exploiting unfair mechanics isn't against the rules, it just makes the rest of envious. Notice how I didn't say "it makes the game harder for the rest of us" - if anything, it makes the game easier since there are more people out there who are willing to reciprocate and sell leech themselves. I'm tired of all this bullshit self-glorification. You're not doing something harder, you're doing something that requires a lot of time. Being level 200 doesn't make you better at me at anything besides spending time on Maplestory. There's no skill involved here, people. Stop invalidating entire sects of people for admitting that this takes too much time and taking shortcuts. And don't give me that "don't say it's too _____, do what the guy who already did it did!" Not all of us can spare the 10+ hours a day it takes to get to level 200 without 2x and/or leeching. I was a Mapler before many of you were even out of high school, I was one of the original oms40archers, I played on Scania before anything but Scania existed, and my old mage still has his mark of the beta. Do I give a pomegranate if they leech or get levels easier? NO! Do what you gotta do. As long as you're not hacking, it's fine. Just like my grandparents don't begrudge me for all of my modern advantages. They're happy for me! I know, pioneers being happy for their progeny, wacky stuff. Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - Jamie_Kurosawa - 2010-12-04 But that's the thing... you don't have to be level 200. Nobody has EVER had to be 200. This game was paced originally around gamers who were casual players playing about 2 ~ 4 hours maybe a day. Problem is Fangblade made 200 before anyone else did and everyone got butthurt about it. Then a few more people did and then everyone was like... "I have to be 200 too!!! If I'm not 200 it's not fair!!!" Level 200 was for people who stayed with the game a long time, dedicated some time into it, and pushed as hard as they could. There were so many options people had and then complained about were too good or just not good enough. We had 8x EXP which was a great tool if you had the means to get 8x EXP which was rep, time, and Nx. People then complained because it was too much EXP or because they didn't have Rep or Nx to get all the possible EXP. Then they complain to Nexon that 8x EXP was a glitch. 3 separate EXP multiplier systems and people complain about it, and then it was gone. Nexon was probably going to give us Neo-Tokyo originally at some point but again this probably got halted by someone saying... "Neo-Tokyo's too hard!!! I wanna play Neo-Tokyo with lower level characters!!!" In turn guess what we got in it's place? Neo-City. We gave up the possibility of monsters yielding 10,000 EXP on average for monsters yielding roughly about a tenth of that. Gone forever was a place where people level 140 and up could grind effectively. The higher levels were supposed to be something worked hard for, achieved, and invested for. What they weren't was stuff that people could go to in a weekend and conquer, and move on as if nothing happened. Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - Dusk - 2010-12-04 Stereo Wrote:Horrid as in, "they moved things around without fixing the graphics and now there are a bunch of visual problems in every town". I much prefer the new design of Victoria to the old. Instead of roads between towns, each town is now its own themed area with dungeons behind them that contain mobs of increasing difficulty. As a new player starting out, you will actually feel like you are going deeper into a dungeon instead of aimlessly wandering between towns with mobs of difficulties in no apparent order. At the center is a hub, leading to other islands, which is a lot better than locating it all in Ellinia. It's much more organized than the circular path with a bunch of random branches sticking out of it wherever they decided to add new content. I particularly enjoy the whole "gateway" feel, it reminds me of a lot of adventure/RPG games where you select a location to explore. You don't need to go 4 maps to get to 6-way split, just town portal or take the taxi to Sleepywood. The Leafre portal is a bit annoying but blame Nexon America for making every single new area link to Victoria Island. What's wrong with merging all the Door of Dimensions? Two of them are already in the same place because of Pirates, and I always thought it was dumb how you have to remember which of the randomly placed Doors you actually have to go to. Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - Seanny - 2010-12-04 Not that im one of those people who ignore the whole endurance based achievement aspect of MS. But i really feel it should be Nexon who decides what the higher levels were for; and of course, sometimes people change their mind about things. By the same token... what stops players who used to see lv 200 as 'THE ULTIMATE CHALLENGE TO ENDURANCE' from simply raising the bar in response to some of these changes? Why not make having TWO or even THREE level 200s the new bar that lv 200 originally was? Raising the bar like this contains all of the elements 200 had before the changes: The average casual will not bother to aim for it, Its a long process. Takes dedication. And isn't a short race by any means either. It even carries extra elements to it: the people gunning for this challenge gets to experience two classes instead of just one and can even becomes personally knowledgable about how classes actually are different from each other indepth as opposed to reading data and framerate info. Why aren't players of old expanding and adapting their original challenge? Why bash people for trying to take the shortcuts in MS all these years? We're humans! Efficiency is our goal; we made cars to help us travel faster, we use computers to design art instead of traditional messy media, People use high-tier characters in fighting games; its why we have robots working in factories instead of people. To hate the shortcut user is to hate the very goal and evolution of humans in work and production, efficiency. The reason leech was so widespread was not because people were lazy; it was because it was FASTER than grinding normally. Figuring out how to do things with minimal effort isn't accomplishment, its what we as humans do to get things ACCOMPLISHED. I see no reason to condemn our nature given thats its all on an even playing field of course. We do arrest those accused of insider trading after all. Level 200 is for the people who have the most time and/or money. Being level 200 is NOT indicative of any positive qualities whatsoever. I'm not saying that everyone who is 200 is a loser, but being level 200 alone doesn't mean anything besides that your level is 200. It's not some hallowed accomplishment, it's a number on a video game. You think Fangblade played this game longer than me? Let me tell you a story about someone on the ranks right now close to 200. I won't use names, but her parents give her ridiculous amounts of money to spend while she's at college and she goes crazy buying things just to use up all of her money. I saw her throw away a $25 card because she didn't like the picture on it - I kid you not. I'm glad you're a high level, but that doesn't mean you're any of the following: 1. Better than me. 2. Have accomplished anything worthwhile and/or meaningful. You can resume your regularly scheduled lives now. I leveled up to 85 on PINEAPPLING RETZ before all this 2x and stuff came out, does that make me cool? Does that make me some sort of accompolished paladin of video-gaming? Yeah, some random guy is going to level to 120 and laugh at my hard efforts in the past, but is that really something I need to care about? Yeah, I spent a lot of time doing a bunch of misc stuff on Maplestory, and that's gonig to change. I didn't grind constantly(mainly because I hated every fiber of it's being, only wanted to get higher level to do more social things like boss, and enjoy awesome 3rd jobs before 4th jobs were out). But I am getting sick of being drunk on accompolishments and nostalgia, I really would prefer the more convenient version. Ellinia is really the only town I care about being changed, and I find the change to be worth it. Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - Jamie_Kurosawa - 2010-12-05 I'm not butthurt at how many changes are coming to Maple because after BB, Paladins are going to be massively overpowered and I could care less since most stuff will probably get 1HKOed now for me. I'm showing you how butthurt people always are because someone was crafty and ingenious enough to steal the cookie from the cookie jar before they did, aka got to some unrealistic goal before they could such as FangBlade getting to 200 before anyone else. Seriously, learn to read the whole damn post before you reply. As I said Level 200 was about time and money. Read the post again and see where I said it, not as directly, but I said it. Here's a hint: Quote:The higher levels were supposed to be something worked hard for, achieved, and invested forWhat I am getting at in saying is that people have used excuse after excuse for their own shortcomings, ignorance, and jealousies for this game and not being where the next person in line got to before they did. People get so bent out of shape because someone killed a super strong boss before they did, got to Level X faster than they did, got some rare and valued item before they did, and whatever else they can think of as an excuse to trash talk the next person. As for the BB accomplishment issue. For those of us who spent a lot of time working for what we have gotten, that now anyone can do without the same effort and minimal investment of anything. Think of this: You go take a driving test and the instructor tells you to parallel park. You can't do it and you fail the test and have to come back the following week for a retry. You're friend goes for the same test the following day and the same instructor doesn't have him parallel park. He passes the test on the first try, while you now must come back for a retest that may or may not include parallel parking. Does anyone understand that? Anyone at all? Basically your friend did only half the test and got what he wanted while you did the full test but failed. Show me the logic in that and relate that to what now players will be faced with. Now answer this... even though you're friend didn't have to parallel park in his driving test, does he know how to do the task at all? Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - Dusk - 2010-12-05 I don't see how your analogy applies at all. Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - Herborist - 2010-12-05 I read your entire post, and my response stands. I have a better metaphor for you, think of this: your great grandfather had to walk to school, through the snow, with shoddily made shoes, and didn't have lunch because they were destitute, while you ride in a car - with heat - then eat lunch, get some snacks, go home, and clackity clack away at a computer. Does your grandfather resent you? Of course not. He's happy for your easy time and hopes that it gets even easier. That's because your grandfather, unlike you, doesn't resent everyone. Does that mean you don't know how to walk? No, of course not, that's ridiculous - we don't assume you're some kind of inbred moron just because you didn't have to demonstrate your ability to do something as frequently. Hopefully you understand because your explanation is both unrealistic and shows a fundamental inability to grasp the key issue here. To help you with that, I'll sum it up: levels = time. More of one is more of the other; being a high level means nothing. It never will, no matter what you think, and I couldn't care less if those who come after me have an easier time. In fact, as logic dictates, those who come second and learn from the mistakes of their predecessors must have an easier time. If they don't, then they're stupid. Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - Jamie_Kurosawa - 2010-12-05 Exactly and sadly even in 2nd place some people just refuse to learn. People will still find some excuse even in that regard as well. Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - Herborist - 2010-12-05 So you're agreeing with me now? I can't say I blame you - I agree with me, too - but I can't help but wonder what your actual point is. Try and state it in a sentence or two. I'm tired of reading these novellas. Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - CarrionCrow - 2010-12-05 Jamie_Kurosawa Wrote:most stuff will probably get 1HKOed now for me. If you did not kill stuff with 1 hit pre BB you wont post. Stuff get more HP, and while it is true that the players will get more power, the truth is that without heavy duty potential'd gear, you wont see your character pwn the crap out of stuff. For example my NL in the live server is so much stronger than my Tespia NL that it feels as if they are totally separate classes. The equips make the difference post BB more than the formula itself. A sucky built character will remain sucky after the patch especially if they have lots of secondary stats, but sure, I have no idea how your Paladin is built. Also for some constructive criticism: Do not take this the wrong way, but you have been wrong (or at least missinformed) in a good chunk of arguments about the workings of MS already and seem to keep posting stuff like it out of pure stubbornness. Why not be a little more humble all in all and contribute where you can and learn where you can not? I'm sure you have alot to offer, but if you keep posting so stubbornly when you are outmatched people will just start to ignore your posts. Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - Jamie_Kurosawa - 2010-12-05 It means that regardless of how far people will get into something, they still complain like no tomorrow that someone else beat them and got ahead in less time with equal or less resources and that it's not fair they aren't in 1st place instead of the other person and that they have to be compensated even if the compensation ruins the game, destroys competition, or devalues the actually goal, just as long as they can be first. Blast will have % of Insta-kill, I have an Explorer's Ring with Insta-kill. That's way too powerful, and as I said... 1HKOs. |
