Although I thought the same thing when I saw Kurama grinning behind Naruto, I just can't think where that would lead to. Madara would definitely capture both Naruto and the Kyubi. It would be a huge twist I guess, but after they saw how Goku (lols) was being treated, I doubt the Kyubi would want that.

Uchiha Madara and Senju Harishama tamed the Kyubi using their skills (Sharingan / Mokuton), they never were hosts. only Naruto, Kushina and the other woman have hosted the Kyuubi.

I don't think the legend ever says whether it was male or female. But feel free to correct me since I am not completely sure.
