I mean, if they go eat instead of going to the gas station, while they may avoid problems, Nicholas' plan might progress and get worse, or it could be going as he planned and perhaps he didn't expect Felix. If Felix and Melanie head to the gas station, they'll encounter the problem, BUT, and there is a but, he'll know that Nicholas is bad instead of having to find out later, when Nicholas' plan could be complete. Grief this is hard

How about more about the town of Gledenberg in general? Surely there must be some backstory of the town to tell. Things such as general events, town history, more unvisited locations, etc.
If you don't want to talk about the town, you could talk about Felix's earlier years. It really bugs me that he doesn't talk about his childhood all that much, it'd be such a great way to tell us more about Felix.

Oh, hey. You reminded me I've been meaning to change the population of Gledenberg to 3000. It won't have any effect on the story, but it will help match the image of the town I desire better. It used be a very small town, but it over doubled in size with NewFuture. Many people commute from Trissany, as well, because of it. It's literally the life of the town. It really used to be a nothing town. The only thing its ever been known for is its Water Festival at Crystal Waters. Its small size is also why I have them walking around so often.
