This chapter was very good and it was because Nats wasn't overpowering Rogue with nakama power.
This makes me wonder what the next arc will be. If Lucy closes the door, dragons show up or not, if she can't prove she did it for the better she will be considered a criminal. If she doesn't close it and dragons show up it will be apocalypse, if she doesn't and dragons don't show up it could be time travel.
I give props to FairyTail and this arc for being so elaborated that it's impredictable. I just hope the outcome isn't disappointing.

I couldn't agree with you more. Though it's unlikely to happen since this IS Fairy Tail, anything remotely close would still be awesome especially if Mashima still does an arc to show Present Lucy going back to achieve what they failed to do this time.

I don't think Lucy is going to end up going back in time in the same way Future lucy did: For one thing, Future Lucy traveled back to only a few days into the grand magic games. Present lucy can't do that, because as she said, the gate is connected to 400 years ago. I think that Fairy tail isn't even close to a dark enough manga for the world to actually be destroyed. Someone will do something to stop it happening.
I had started worrying when Lucy was gripping the Door Switch with her right hand... I get the feeling we know how Future Lucy lost her right arm now...
That said, I do expect someone to go through the gate after the dragons are repelled. Or, perhaps to get help from the dragons that fight on the humans side (I.e. Igneel, Grandine , Metalicana and Co)

The thing is that besides Lucy, Natsu, Wendy, Mira, Yukino, Gerard, Ultear, Meredy and Arcadius, everyone is at the plaza, way too far. In just mere seconds 4 dragons already slipped through so unless they close the door at the beginning of next's chapter, I doubt they will at all, and even then it will be really hard to contain the ones that came out for which someone might die (Arcadius, the minister or the Princess).

Maybe I'm going a bit off topic but whatever: I like how the design of the dragons are similar to the ones he used for Monster hunter Orange, for example the dragon that they call a rock in this chapter looks a lot like a hybrid between an Uragaan and a Barroth. I know that Mashima likes to recycle character's designs but It's quite cool that he uses his MH experience while creating those dragons. If this go this way I can't wait to see a dragon similar to a Lagiacrus.
About the chapter: I think Gerard will ask the Council to use the etherion. And It'd be nice to see the Dragon Slayers in action with Dragons.

Not everyone, we don't know how far some of the people are away. Only Fairy Tail are at the plaza, and we don't know where the other guilds, we don't know where everyone else is. That said, there are other options. For instance, we know Jellal asked Laharl and Mest something. Perhaps he was getting them to prepare Etherion to fire on the castle.
And of course that Igneel flashback this arc had him specifically state that The dragon king festival was going to happen soon: He was probably talking about the dragons from the past managing to get through the gate. And he said he was going to take action soon.
After all, these dragons are clearly from the *hate humans* side who were fighting a war against the ones who trained dragon slayers, and I doubt that Igneel and co. would just let them go to the future to avoid losing.

Edit: You've got a point about the other guilds not being at the plaza and even Gerard talking to Lahar and Mest. For everything else I'm not sure. IDK what exactly was the Dragon Festival is about, but being Acnologia the dragon king, it can'tbe anything that could be helpful to anyone.
PD: I think it's pretty obvious that this is how Zeref already knew Natsu back at Tenrou island. There is chance Natsu and Lucy jump through the door as the dragons rampage on Crocas and kill everyone, hoping to find in the past a way to save the future.

Looks like Mashima didn't want my "best manga" award.
I don't expect those 7 dragons to be hard to be dealt with. Just think of the levels of the mages that are present. When many of them could handle a dragon singlehandlely, they should have no problem when they are all together, even though the strongest ones are injured or weakened.
Again I'm at a loss as to where the manga is going.

^ I'd have to agree, the ideas I saw above were more interesting unless there's some special reason why it had to be seven dragons this time. Then again I don't expect that Fairy Tail will pull off something very surprising, even if it would make for a better story.

Based on what? The only fights of mages against dragons we even have a vague idea of occurring are
Gildarts VS Acknowlogia. Turned out excellently for Acknowlogia, Gildarts, not so much.
Fairy Tail VS Acknowlogia. Couldn't dent it.
Sting & Rogue claiming to kill their own dragons.
Natsu, Gajeel & Wendy vs the robo dragon from Edolas, which barely even counts.
But then the first two might be balanced by the fact that Acknologia murdered the crap out of lots of dragons too. Infact,at least a few of the dragons that came were specifically killed by Acknologia (According to Zirconis back when wendy summoned his soul).
I'm not saying they *can't* win, but there aren't enough DSlayers to go around yet, and the entire point of Dragon Slaying Magic was it was supposed to be the only magic strong enough to destroy dragon scales, after all, Fairy tail Humans were specifically called a food source before they were taught Dragon Slaying Magic, which suggests to me that most of their natural magics aren't strong enough to affect dragons. (Of course, I guess we need to consider that they wouldn't have been able to train like they do after the dragons disappeared, and probably are significantly stronger.)
