Vlad laughed as the Containment Ring slowly descended and you threw Niernen into it. He tried to push his way out of it, but you stood strong and forced him to stay inside. When he vanished and your PM Devices started beeping rapidly, a wave of relief washed over your faces.
PM Device
Dear Niernen,
You are Lisa Heart, the Electrician. In this world, your abilities have morphed into a sinister new form that will help to shut down the good in your town. Your documentation is as follows:
electrician.role Wrote:This game is just problem after problem, isn't it? Vlad said I have to let you play freely, but try to keep your strength in check, ok? Each night you can send in a PM with [Disable] PLAYER to send a disruptive blast of energy their way. Getting blasted should keep anyone from using their abilities till the next night. Simple, but effective.
You are sided with the Mafia, so you win once all of the Town has been contained or nothing can prevent that from happening. Your teammates are VerrKol, faonkarino, and Olsi. You may communicate with them freely throughout the game.
If you have any questions about this documentation, send a PM and I will respond as soon as possible.
Dear MetaSeraphim,
You are Billy Daveson, the Child. Just a child in the real world, you don't amount to much here. Your documentation is as follows:
child.role Wrote:Sorry, buddy. The fact of the matter is that Digitalization sometimes doesn't go as planned. Instead of giving you a power in the digital world, it gave your imaginary friend TheBirds' a visible form. Unfortunately, this means that your existences are tied to one another, and if one of you is contained the other will be too. But, you know, children are our future and all that, so I was told to work on something and will [Update] you when it's ready, so just sit tight, alright?
You are sided with the Town, so you win once all those threatening your return to reality have been contained.
If you have any questions about this documentation, send a PM and I will respond as soon as possible.
updater.DLC Wrote:Here you go! This'll only work once, but at night you can send in a PM to [Update] PLAYER, giving your target's powers a temporary upgrade. Go get 'em, champ!
Dear ChaoticCJ,
You are Grant Hawthorn, the Passerby. You were driving through the town and were mistakenly collected by Vlad. Your documentation is as follows:
passerby.role Wrote:I'm sorry that you got wrapped up in this, but unfortunately we can't return you to reality unless you win, so you're going to have to play along. Rules are rules, you know. It seems the Digitalization didn't give you much to work with here, so I'll see if I can find a way to fix that later on. For now, just use your words well and stay alive, ok?
You are sided with the Intruders, so you win once either all those threatening the Town's return to reality have been contained, or once all of the Town has been contained or nothing can prevent that from happening.
If you have any questions about this documentation, send a PM and I will respond as soon as possible.
passerby.DLC Wrote:Here, I made a little something for you. When you get home tonight, you'll find an Anti-Containment Pin on your kitchen table. That'll protect you from being contained at night one time, and possibly during the day as well, but I can't promise that. If you wish, each night you may send in a PM with [Pass] PLAYER to move the Pin to a different player. To be clear, this can be done even if you have already passed it (that is, you can move it from a player who isn't you to another player who isn't you). If you don't send in a PM, it will stay with its current owner for the time being. Good luck with protecting the right people, though...
Dear Polantaris,
You are Zee Powers, the Copycat. In the real world you infamously managed to cheat your way to the top of your class, though your morals aren't quite as loose when it comes to non-academic matters. Your documentation is as follows:
copycat.role Wrote:Oooh, aren't you an interesting one. Your desire to do well is commendable, but it's really wasted on someone who can't bother to actually understand what they're learning. In any case, each night you may send a PM in each night with the action [Copy] PLAYER; you will enter a trance-like state and attempt to learn how to perform what that player does that night. If you succeed in copying their night action, instead of copying a new power the next night you may use it on another player by sending in a PM with [Target] PLAYER. As your abilities are limited, a copied action is lost at the end of the night after it is copied. That is, for example, if you copy something on Night 1 it is lost at the end of Night 2 whether your Night 2 action is using it or copying another power instead. If the action you are using requires any information besides just a target, you will use the same information that was used by the player you copied on the night that you copied them. You may target yourself, though this could of course result in the action failing to work. I hope you know what you're doing.
You are sided with the Town, so you win once all those threatening your return to reality have been contained.
If you have any questions about this documentation, send a PM and I will respond as soon as possible.
Dear TheBirds,
You are Jim Gyle, the Puppet. Back in the real world... well, you didn't really exist. Your documentation is as follows:
puppet.role Wrote:It's rare that we get to see something like you, to be honest. Digitalization doesn't often go so wrong. Who knew that the imaginary friend of one of the players would be given a physical form? Or digital form, I guess. My point is, you Depend entirely on MetaSeraphim's existence, and if one of you is contained than the other will be too. Anyway, I've arranged it so the other players will think the reason they don't remember you is just a quirk of the Digitalization, so be thankful.
You are sided with the Town, so you win once all those threatening your return to reality have been contained.
If you have any questions about this documentation, send a PM and I will respond as soon as possible.
puppet.DLC Wrote:Oooh, you lucked out. I was able to update your abilities temporarily, so for the next day and night you'll no longer be tied to MetaSeraphim. But once that ends, you two are back to being vulnerable, so... good luck with that.
Dear Sega CakesXD,
You are Liana Vale, the Rebel. Though you were never happy with the way the town was run, you'd never try to hurt anyone, and so you've decided to put your strong voice to good use. Your documentation is as follows:
rebel.role Wrote:Eh, your power's the kind that'll catch them by surprise, though it might not be too exciting till then. You will passively [Turn] a tied vote towards the person you're voting for. That could come in handy, so don't complain!
You are sided with the Town, so you win once all those threatening your return to reality have been contained.
If you have any questions about this documentation, send a PM and I will respond as soon as possible.
Dear meowmixx,
You are Minerva Owens, the Researcher. In the real world you were known for easily finding information when others could not, and this has manifested in a different form in this virtual world. Your documentation is as follows:
researcher.role Wrote:Ooh, you're lucky enough to get to sneak a peak into my side of this game. By sending in a PM at night, you will be able to [Download] PLAYER to acquire part of the target player's current role documentation.
You are sided with the Town, so you win once all those threatening your return to reality have been contained.
If you have any questions about this documentation, send a PM and I will respond as soon as possible.
In a flash, the Soul Container vanished. In its place was all of the Town members that had been contained, along with LuvDWayULie and Chaz. The Mafia members were nowhere to be seen. You all began to celebrate, but Vlad's slow clapping from the side of the plaza put a stop to that.
"Oooh, aaah, very nice! Great work, everyone; you won! It's just a shame that almost everyone else is losing their games. You're free to return to your normal lives, but when it comes to dealing with THEM, well... let's just say that maybe giving them your bodies the peaceful way by getting contained would have been the better choice, and you're not exactly going to be able to fight them off without any help. Maybe you'll be lucky and enough of the others will win! Maybe. But, well, good luck. You'll need it."
Unsure of what to think, you stood around staring at each other in disbelief. At some point the town itself began to slowly vanish, returning to the endless blue space you saw at the start of all of this. You quickly said your goodbyes to LuvDWayULie and Chaz, thanking them for their help despite not having physical bodies, and expressed your hopes that they'd make it out of the game in one way or another. As everything went dark, the return to the harsh reality of the real world began...
I'll now answer questions about roles and such, but first:
Role Info
Notes on Dice Rolling Wrote:Results are as follows:
2: "One On One" - Gladiator-esque restriction that voting can only be on you two
3: "Suicide" - Instant death.
4: "Silenced" - Unable to vote today.
5: "Overruled" - Doubles target vote.
6: "Cleared Up" - Undoes any edits to the target's documentation.
7: "Nothing" - Literally nothing happens besides you rolling dice.
8: "Poker Face" - Undoes any edits to the Gambler's documentation.
9: "Overpowering" - Doubles own vote today. (Listen more- not sure if out of respect or fear)
10: "Silencer" - Target is unable to vote today.
11: "Murder" - Kills the target.
12: "Go Right Ahead" - Update/Passerby/Conspiracy Theorist get things a day early.
Shidoshi's role's intent was to clear up differences between the public vote count and who actually got lynched; the intended result was for answers to reveal that it wasn't a bug and drop the name of a role involved. It's sad that he died so soon, because he was the one that always counted up votes and so he was actually perfect for the role!
Niernen actually never had to vote for Chaz. "Upon returning home, you made the decision that no matter what happened tomorrow, at the end of the day you'd vote for Chaz. You weren't exactly sure where this decision came from, but it felt like the right thing to do." I don't know why he assumed this was a complete restriction. Also, along Kyrastri's wonderful line of thinking which only Niernen sorta tried to follow (and he wasn't intended to do that), Chaz could attach to Vlad successfully, gaining the ability to end a day earlier than normal (within a certain span of time). That's why his PM had the weird mention of multiple kinds of names being valid.
Anything VerrKol edited would have been marked as such (as his role PM says). Nothing he edited was ever seen. Editing Alliance changes the win condition (with an error if the Alliance is fake) and editing Role Name can straight up change which role's documentation is displayed as long as you change it to a valid one.
Polantaris asked about what using Luv's power would mean at some point and I vaguely explained it to leave things sorta open to interpretation, so I might as well explain that here: if Luv died as a result of using his action and then voting, this could apply to Polantaris; if it was something related to the role and not the action, he'd be fine. The truth is the latter, as even if he voted on Day 1, Luv would have died. Of course, the infection would also have just been spread for Luv and not Polantaris regardless, so even in the first case Polantaris probably wouldn't have died after.
My Mistakes
Shidoshi's documentation was horribly worded, and I'm sad that I wasn't able to clarify his questions about it well enough before he died. There's also a break from flavor as Mas was right- he should have been able to fix his glitched rhyming thing.
I should have switched CJ and TheBirds' factions. Rather, made TheBirds' role an Intruder and had another Town role. What caused this was me rushing to edit/replace roles that I had come up with right at the start of me brainstorming this and had survived all the way to that point... and then I realized they were pretty impossible to pull off as I couldn't be watching the thread 24/7 or anything like that, and it'd be a bit much to have a ton of mid-day results like Kyrastri's. Another problem was that I was sorta low on ideas for Mafia roles, and so I started focusing brainstorming non-Town ideas on them, and then I knew I wanted a certain number of Intruders and Mafia so I was down an Intruder. Making the role TheBirds had that would have fit both flavor-wise and made two deaths less devastating for the Town, though it never actually mattered, I guess.
My biggest mistake, that I am extremely hopeful that absolutely no one noticed, was a ~30 second period where VerrKol's documentation had the Mafia's names in it still. I was rushing to post this thanks to being distracted by TI4, and, well, had I not been distracted this issue probably wouldn't have happened, but also had I not been distracted I wouldn't have posted it 15 minutes late when people weren't checking the thread constantly and wouldn't have made the other error (I didn't finish a sentence) I noticed first and started editing the post to remove before I noticed the names, so... Regardless, that was a huge mistake on my part so I'm admitting to it here.
On Night 3 I didn't note something down that I should've and so when writing results PMs I didn't remember that Luv was disabled, so both he and his target (Polantaris) got results as if Luv had succeeded in infecting him; I sent PMs correcting this as soon as I realized a few minutes later. At least at that point this didn't have a major effect on the game; it would have been a problem if Luv wasn't as trusted at that point and/or if someone else tried to claim they were disabled, of course.
As Polantaris noted, I did give him the wrong action once, as I hadn't realized that I actually had put one in his documentation. Thankfully he asked and I told him as much.
I broke my promise and failed to use .
And Now, I Judge You
Mafia was pretty disorganized at first; I had to remind them to send things in the first night and if I hadn't extended it for other reasons, they still wouldn't have had them in (in that their PMs came in at 3:01 EST).
CJ could have saved Holypie but instead just left his Pin on meow from the moment he got it; that's a valid strategy especially as he couldn't have known about Polantaris, but it seemed weird at the time.
Niernen sorta just gave up and targeted Vlad, and I understand the reasoning (getting disabled would confirm you as townie) but it hurt the Mafia overall. Lucky for him that he didn't try to contain meow on the last night, though.
Most of you missed Luv straight up saying he was an Intruder before Chaz's PM revealed that faction and their win condition, and continued to suspect him of being mafia-allied; I feel like Holy would've pointed this out had he been around but instead it took CJ to do it, and that's only because he was also an Intruder with that same win condition.
At some point it seemed that faon's random theory of Kyrastri's roll making everyone a strongman got turned into a totally agreed upon fact. I'm surprised CJ didn't speak up here; it's unlikely that Meta would reveal they got an update, but CJ didn't have much of a reason to hide it. Similarly, I'm surprised that meow wasn't targeted that night; I figured faon actually believed the strongman thing and would have had Olsi target meow as a result.
Meta at least justified their fake restriction with something that totally fit their flavor but it feels like none of you ever dug into that to see whether they knew who had their voice. You also generally suspected them over Olsi, despite them having equal readings of Town by meow. I was expecting Meta and TheBirds being able to trust each other being used at some point to shut someone's argument down, but it never really happened to that extreme.
Digital Mafia - TOWN WINS - MetaSeraphim - 2014-07-26
Can I know what my update power would have done to each person (Along with if I used it on myself)?
I didn't really like the Intruder faction, they may make sense flavor-wise, but in terms of gameplay they are weird. They win no matter what if they survive, however their powers were more suited for helping the town. I'd have them be Town aligned anyway so they have more incentive to play and more risk to lose the game.
Other than that, great game xBTAx. Maybe a little tilted to the Town, but I'm not sure, the mafia really played very badly after Faon died making very poor posts in thread that made scum hunting very easy. I was screaming "lynch Niernen!" so hard at home since he was being so obvious.
Also, yeah, my role was incredibly confusing. I had no hint that anything out of the ordinary would happen with votes/people from my role PM that I should have been keeping an eye on and/or what were the limits on what I could or could not ask.
MetaSeraphim Wrote:Can I know what my update power would have done to each person (Along with if I used it on myself)?
I'll be honest: most of them were vague ideas still, so I only cemented them for who was alive once you actually could use the power. Besides TheBirds, those are:
Niernen - Disable prevents you from participating for the first half (24 hours) of the day.
ChaoticCJ - Second Pin (that vanishes if not activated within a day).
Polantaris - Copying also gives Action name.
CakesXD - Double vote.
Olsi - Strongman kill.
meowmixx - Gets Alliance edit history if it's been edited; can see through Olsi.
Holypie - Takes effect of all actions affecting the target.
VerrKol - Can edit one thing each for two people if wanted (as opposed to the usual only being able to do two things on one person); edits aren't marked.
LuvDWayULie - Gains a second Infect action that night.
And if you used it on yourself I would have sent you the update message again.
EDIT:

I meant to include that in the mistakes portion of the post but didn't add it in time. That was definitely something I didn't think enough about until Luv started questioning it- it was intended to be a chaotic role allowing them to help the Mafia if they wanted, but... they had no real reason to do that.
I totally mentioned that Luv said his faction was Intruder before Chaz died. I guess it was in my megapost from the library and people skimmed that? Also VerrKol was super suspicious after he used the loophole to avoid infecting more people (I assume he tried to infect Luv), since Luv was clearly town sided and a very valid strategy for a town who was infected would be to infect potential mafia so they are forced to lynch a mafia member. This also would have implicated Niernen when he claimed that he blocked Luv. Fun game, and for once town won. Hooray! And I was dropping a few hints about being the doctor which I thought faon picked up on so he knew that I was the doctor. It ended up well since claiming let Polantaris take over for me and saving meow for another night.
Edit: Wait what does my update power do? It redirects actions from my target to me?

xBTAx Wrote:I was expecting Meta and TheBirds being able to trust each other being used at some point to shut someone's argument down, but it never really happened to that extreme.
Thing about that is I felt if I said or made it obvious that we were connected that the mafia would come after us since two kills are better than one, or that somehow the mafia would turn the town against either of us and get us lynched.
Plus I was too busy letting my "dummy" do the talking.
xBTAx Wrote:And if you used it on yourself I would have sent you the update message again.
Oh, I noticed Luv said he was in intruder when he was in danger of being lynched, I also tried to push that as a point that he may not be town-aligned. But all the neutral roles really could have just been town roles for the most part. The mafia couldn't exactly go after all the neutrals as well as the townies. But we basically got screwed on day three, it all fell apart then
[MENTION=41]Holypie[/MENTION]; We actually had no idea you were the doctor. But coming out turned out to save the town anyways since polantaris became the second doctor. If not for that, we could have probably dragged it on for at least another day.
[MENTION=10201]Niernen[/MENTION]; I know that now but that was my reasoning at the time. In retrospect I just got my internet back and was being hasty and not really thinking, also probably overestimating faon. Also I was panicking because seriously a dying mafia calls you out as the doctor when you're actually the doctor. That's scary. He just got ridiculously lucky I guess lol.
Ah, it's a shame that some of the more interesting Town roles died before they could use their power to the fullest.
I had actually assumed that a Mafioso had somehow stolen Meta's voice, and we wouldn't get it back until we lynched whoever took it, so I put it on the back burner in my mind. Didn't at all suspect that TheBirds and Meta were connected.
Awesome game, xBTAx, and good job Townies/Intruders!
Digital Mafia - TOWN WINS - ChaoticCJ - 2014-07-26
I do want to say that it was an incredibly fun game, and that I actually really like the Intruders faction. I think it was the first time we have had an actual third faction that isn't just purely neutral. I do agree that all of us pretty much went the way of town, but there was a point before faonkarino's lynch that I was actually thinking of helping the mafia and playing both sides. In the end, it was kinda a domino effect with the mafia, not expecting meow to survive, and the mess up with VerrKol, then again with Olsi, which lead to Niernen being defenseless.
I knew that Meta and TheBirds had some type of connection, but I kept brushing it off because the only connection I could think of is that they were both mafia. I knew TheBirds probably wasn't Intruders because their ability hadn't come in, but I let it go because revealing they where town would only hurt the town.
xBTAx Wrote:[1*]CJ could have saved Holypie but instead just left his Pin on meow from the moment he got it; that's a valid strategy especially as he couldn't have known about Polantaris, but it seemed weird at the time.

Similarly, I'm surprised that meow wasn't targeted that night; I figured faon actually believed the strongman thing and would have had Olsi target meow as a result.
So on xBTAx's notes:
1. I was actually afraid that faon's comment on the strongman was true, and my thinking was that it would have been a waste to use it on Holypie, since the mafia going after the doctor to confirm a kill on meow would be most likely. Like you said, I also didn't know that Polantaris had copied Holypie's ability at the time, and I was actually hoping to do the same thing Polantaris did and troll the mafia out to revealing themselves-which they did kinda do. I actually was going to keep the pin on me for the first night, but decided to use it that night for fear of getting roleblocked.
2. To me it made sense that people would ignore that he was an Intruder. Most people didn't expect a third faction to be in and I knew that I had to speak up at that point.
3. The whole third day was a bit of a mess for me. I was starting to think of helping the mafia at this point since the town wasn't getting anywhere. At this point I still suspected Niernen, faon, and Polantaris, but people really didn't trust me too much to be going after any of them. The huge thing that threw me off was actually Holypie's post:
Holypie Wrote:Yay I found some power outlets! They look really pineappleing disgusting though so I don't want to use them unless I have to.
When I first read it over, I had assumed that all of us had been given some type of power/item from Kyr's ability. Then I noticed faon said something about strongman, but by the time I got to class and figured out that Holypie was talking about his IRL laptop, meow had already done the reveal. This logic then looped around to point 1 where I chose to use the pin on meow fearing a roleblock or other possible items/abilities.
To end, I did make a few mistakes. Niernen and Luv caught on me saying there were "4" neutrals. I added this at the last minute only to realize that if I revealed myself as neutral the mafia would have one less target to get rid of. This is part of my reason for not saying I was neutral outright until everyone started revealing their roles on day 5. Another mistake was telling meow to investigate Cakes instead of Niernen, but it wasn't too big of a deal in the end. Also, like I said, I should have asked Polantaris if he did block a kill because at the beginning of the day I had assumed it was me. Then when I read deeper and didn't get any confirmation, I started to suspect Olsi. This was actually the most ironic part, that by Olsi saying they had been roleblocked and no kill had occurred, it later implicated Niernen. Either way, the mistakes weren't too bad, but still they were facepalm moments.
Edit:
xBTAx Wrote:[*]Niernen sorta just gave up and targeted Vlad, and I understand the reasoning (getting disabled would confirm you as townie) but it hurt the Mafia overall. Lucky for him that he didn't try to contain meow on the last night, though.
I was actually hoping that the mafia would target meow on the last night; it would have made for such a hilarious moment into my power reveal. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
Oh, and another mistake of mine was that I didn't try to convincing Luv to wait to use his ability. I wanted to keep Luv alive for another night or two so that the roleblocker at the time would be preoccupied with Luv and allow me to keep meow alive for just a bit longer. It ended up working out with Polantaris, but it got pretty quiet with no Luv or Kyrastri.
Oh yeah, good job to the Town and the rest of the Intruders (including the honorary Intruder, TheBirds).
