The International 2014 - Chew - 2014-05-20 W E D I D I T B O Y S $6 Million dollars! 6 million dollars, 6 freaking million dollaras and still got 2 months to go. Now, any predictions for the new stretch goals? The International 2014 - Malthe - 2014-05-20 Doubt any of the stretchgoals will be related to new heroes, we're only like 5 heroes away from full dota1 parity. The International 2014 - Chew - 2014-05-20 NEW STRETCH GOALSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS: Daily Hero CHallenge Alternate Voice Favorite Hero Challenge Model Update Vote Multikill Banner Afterparty Broadcast New Upgraded Creeps A->Z Challenge Support Victory prediction taunt $10,000,0000 new goal. The International 2014 - Words - 2014-05-21 They all look pretty cool to me, but I won't make any predictions this time. I'm already surprised it reach 6m in like a week and a half? pineappleing China, the games are so pineappleing laggy that I can't watch :'( The International 2014 - Malthe - 2014-05-21 Well the stretch-goals are cool or meh for the most part but valve are already super busy so i didn't expect much. Plus we might get a new model for slardar :x The International 2014 - Words - 2014-05-21 Chinese players pause because they have 100ping... I play with 80-100 ping every game ._. I wish I lived somewhere where better internet isn't as expensive as it is here and with dedicated servers for that region. Well, I think 70-100 isn't thaat bad compared to that one time I played in an EU server with 200+ ping. The International 2014 - Malthe - 2014-05-21 There we go, finished updating the first post. Also i'm kind of happy for Black making it. I hope he ends up in the play-ins so he gets to go to seattle again. RIP GD studio lounge stream ;_; So much fun was had The International 2014 - byakugan - 2014-05-29 Someone please clarify this for me as I don't play Dota2. You buy a compendium and the money you pay is put into the prize pool for the international. As a reward you get the equivalent of cash items in MS and as the prize pool breaks more stretch goals anyone that bought a compendium recieves the same rewards regardless of how many they bought? These rewards are cash items only and are not related to regular game updates at all? It comes with a lot of features like a fantasy league, voting for favourite players and players to be featured in an all-star match and so on. Along with a lot of other prediction stuff that is just fun to do for the people into the competitive scene. After buying a compendium you can use money to buy points to level up faster(Leveling up your compendium that is, you can also level up your compendium by just playing the game) and get more cosmetic stuff unlocked like until shortly after the tournament some of your ingame effects change colours and stuff or unlocked different versions of the cosmetics you have unlocked for compendium owners and so on. So far stuff that the compendium has unlocked for players:
Spoiler
Some of these things like certain cosmetics are unique to the compendium owners. But a lot of them are things that all of the community will benefit fromStuff like the game modes are obviously permanent stuff and not only for the compendium owners and will affect gameplay because well, it's an entirely new game mode. And all rewards are retro-active for people that buy compendiums later. Does that answer your question? Dota2 is 100% free to play, there's nothing you can buy to give yourself any kind of advantage ingame. Long story short: valve is selling hats and are really good at it and we breached a 7 million dollars prize pool. The compendium is basically all of valve's philosophy in one item:

Yeah they are more like digital skins and effects, loading screens (which was a big thing for me back in dota 1 days as the pic for them were awesome), but nothing you have affects gameplay, as in make your character stronger by any measure (unless you count looking more badass an advantage over your opponents). Yes, you get the rewards of the stretch goals regardless of your level or compendium level, but your compendium can level up and you will get rewards based on your compendium level as well, you can buy points to level up faster or just play and win games to get exp to help you level, so there is a bonus for just having a compendium, and for leveling it up independent of each other, all cosmetic mostly. You also get exp bonus multiplier for your battle level which doesn't really do anything other than lets you get a free item every couple levels (as far as i know, i'm only around level 106, although that's pretty high compared to most people I guess?). They are adding stuff like new modes (for everyone ofc) regardless of if you bought a compendium or not for the stretch goals as well, so all the non-cosmetic rewards go for everyone who plays dota 2 so there is no real advantage to buying a compendium other than having prettier pixels. Sorry if i'm not clear, it's much easier to explain to someone that has general knowledge of previous compendiums and events. Edit: Looks like Malthe is answering, he will definitely explain it better. |
