Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - MetaSeraphim - 2013-06-19 Locked Wrote:Sakurai has no time to bring all the characters back What a wuss! Everyone knows that SSB games will never pass the 40 character mark, this is the perfect time to hit that mark. Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Locked - 2013-06-19 Sakurai explains how he picks Pokemon for the game. Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Maping - 2013-06-19 I hope all or most of the characters are immediately unlocked, unlike how it was in Brawl (Where you had to unlock them through Subspace.). I was wondering, what are generally agreed to be the best and worst characters in Brawl? Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Corn - 2013-06-19 Maping Wrote:I hope all or most of the characters are immediately unlocked, unlike how it was in Brawl (Where you had to unlock them through Subspace.). Probably no chance of them making them all immediately unlocked. http://www.ssbwiki.com/Tier_list Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - JoeTang - 2013-06-19 Lucario was a great addition, mixing current interest in Diamond/Pearl and the movie, with an actual fighting style that was well suited for the game. It was definitely designed better than Mewtwo. I'm not sure if Mewtwo would fit fast enough for the upcoming movie, but if it has a strong focus in X/Y or the next movie, it'll probably be a shoe in. I doubt there's many more characters that would qualify though. In regards to removing Lucario, I think it would be better to keep him as a representative of past generation Pokemon Games. D/P/Pt is pretty recent actually, and I know they can have representation from Stages and Pokeballs, but actual characters, Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Pokemon Trainer are all R/B/Y. They could try updating Pokemon Trainer to a different version, or even adding a new one for G/S/C or R/S/E, but that's a lot more development work. I think the Plusle+Minun idea is really good and I hope to see that just for variety. Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Lozmaster - 2013-06-20 MetaSeraphim Wrote:What a wuss! Everyone knows that SSB games will never pass the 40 character mark, this is the perfect time to hit that mark. Seems an odd thing to say. The first had 12 characters, the second 26 (counting zelda/sheik separate), brawl with 39 (transforms/pokemon trainers pokemon separate), and the only people removed from melee-> Brawl were clones and mewtwo who was replaced by lucario. Until he said that, I had been working on the assumption we'd end up with a roster of around 50 with about 13-14 new characters. I'll probably be dragged over the coals for this, but they should have waited to make the 3DS game. The 3DS doesn't need smash bros to save itself, the Wii U absolutely does, and half assing it (because the wiiu doesn't have enough half assed/lazy games already) won't be doing anyone any favours. And that way we wouldn't have had to wait 6 years between games again. Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - KhainiWest - 2013-06-20 Luffy should be added, they are both from Japan, that's enough! ![]() Though the idea of luffy in super smash would be the most hilarious sh`it ever. I would rather have mewtwo than Lucario in smash, Mewtwo is an iconic Pokemon although lucario is up there is well. Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Lozmaster - 2013-06-20 KhainiWest Wrote:Mewtwo is an iconic Pokemon although lucario is up there is well. Only because we're a bunch of old angry people who grew up with Red/Blue. Besides that, every playable pokemon of the 6 in brawl is from Gen 1 other than lucario, that's ridiculously imbalanced really. Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Locked - 2013-06-20 So on /v/ they decided to react the Sakurai stress news by doing #YouCanDoItSakurai tweets. Joe and I were looking at the /v/ thread when it was happening but SP was down. Sakurai did reply to it though! Twice too. [tweet]347589248561590272[/tweet] [tweet]347809023497760768[/tweet]

Sakurai's pretty cool. Pic of the day:

Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Polantaris - 2013-06-20 Maping Wrote:I hope all or most of the characters are immediately unlocked, unlike how it was in Brawl (Where you had to unlock them through Subspace.). You didn't HAVE to use Subspace to unlock the characters. You could unlock characters in Brawl the same exact way you unlocked them in the other games, by doing random matches and other crap. It's just that it was efficient, quick, and easy to unlock everyone using Subspace, because there's no way to miss anyone, mess up objectives, etc.. By the time you're done, only 3 characters are left and they're just redoing certain areas quickly. As for best/worst characters: I know that MetaKnight is considered the best character in Brawl, because of some of his attacks having spammable strong attacks or something like that, I don't remember the details. The worst is considered a tie between Link, Jigglypuff, Zelda and Ganondorf, with Ganondorf being considered the absolute worst (but those four are all in the same "tier"). Interestingly enough, although everyone here that I've noticed considers Toon Link and Link to be clones, Toon Link is way up on the list. I always found Toon Link far more enjoyable to play than Link myself. http://www.smashboards.com/threads/official-bbr-tier-list-v6.306431/ Lozmaster Wrote:I'll probably be dragged over the coals for this, but they should have waited to make the 3DS game. They could have easily added any additional content added in the 3DS version, if it was made later, to the Wii U version to keep them the same if that was desired. Having the 3DS version be a limiter on the Wii U version in any way is honestly not good at all. It gets hard to balance the game with a lot of characters, I'm never going to disagree with that, but one of things I really liked in Brawl was the massive character list. There will always be characters that are considered "OP", because balance will never be perfect, however when you're not playing competitively, having a ton of characters enhances the experience exponentially. That's why I like Brawl in all of it's smaller flaws, it has such potential for fun. Hearing about a reduced character list is disappointing, because that's one of my favorite things about Smash. I never get bored because there's not enough differentiating play-styles. Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Takebacker - 2013-06-20 Ganondorf is the lowest on the tier list, but what the tier list doesn't tell you is that ganondorf is the best character in the game with items. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Lozmaster - 2013-06-20 Takebacker Wrote:Ganondorf is the lowest on the tier list, but what the tier list doesn't tell you is that ganondorf is the best character in the game with items. Doubt it. Even though some items may well change it round, it doesn't fix that faster characters obviously have an advantage in regards to actually getting items. And, you know, the rest of the dorfs problems. Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Takebacker - 2013-06-20 Eh not really making a case against the low tiers anyway. There are a fair number of characters that just didn't fall into a competitively useful category with their advantages. Super Smash Bros. I though Ganondorf was one of the strongest characters to fight against. [MENTION=69]Lozmaster[/MENTION]; Yeah I also think its a bad idea for them to work on both at the same time. The 3DS doesn't need as much promotion as the Wii U. So anything slowing it down in the near future isn't good. Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Locked - 2013-06-20 Don't pay attention to tier list. A lot of people give them more worth than they truly are. The tier list is decided by people called the Smash Back Room which is quite literally a subforum of a forum with people who judge characters based on their tournament performance. Tier lists in Smash Brothers is a really controversial subject and I personally think they should be taken with a grain of salt or be better without them. Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Corn - 2013-06-20 People shouldn't really care about tier lists because most of the characters are barely separated by a grain of salt anyways, and it's not like any of us here play at the top 1% level to make use of all the combos and wave-cancels and edge-hogs they use. I mean, I don't personally see how when my group of friends plays that Meta Knight is overpowered, but when I look at tournament videos I'm like "damn." Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Dark Zero - 2013-06-21 Snake opened the door for 3rd party characters to enter... I wonder if Konami will try to put Simon Belmont on Super Smash Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Dudewitbow - 2013-06-21 tier list only generally shows the maximum potential a character has and its likely matchup advantage levels vs other characters. Similar to maplestory, if you cannot play a character well, then the tier list in your play style isnt perfect. It just represents the situation if all characters were playing at their synthetic maximum potential, who is likely to win. Of course, its not 100% but it is still a tool to use to compare a character on average. I mean some characters occasionally are just superior than others(E.g Pikachu vs Pichu in melee). Its a rule of thumb, but its not absolute, hence the ever evolving tier list changes.(e.g when brawl started, meta knight and Snake occupied the top two slots, currently its meta and ice climbers). They just run like the 64 contestant tournaments several times with CPU controlled characters and judge them based on their performance? Ok. I can see how that's not entirely accurate. Question though: I haven't really played brawl much but in melee CPU's use the same combo or sequence of moves in a particular moment. To the point where you know what the CPU will do before you do it. (I.e. If Ganondorf or Capt. Falcon is on the ground and you jump above them they will always do the up-B move) So my question is does brawl have this sort of arrangement. Where if a condition is met then the CPU will always do the same move set regardless other factors? Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Corn - 2013-06-21 valhala556 Wrote:Oh. He means professional tournaments that compete for money. Just look at the Wikipedia page for Meta Knight and it'll be clear how much we all suck at this game. |
