Black Friday Sale 2011 - Blades4hire - 2011-11-22 Like I already said, limited quantities was always implied. Pineappling TEN for a server of tens of thousands of people is just ridiculous. If they had limited it to 1000 or something, it would be reasonable. Let's go back to my walmart example. Let's say that ONE walmart store was selling flat screen TVs at 40% off on black Friday, if purchased with prepaid cards that must be bought beforehand. They tell people to get there early before they run out. Let's say 1000 people showed up for this(reasonable if it's the only store offering this). Then, the store opens, and they only have 1 TV for this discounted price(about the ratio of cubes:people) The 999 other people who already bought the cards, are technically not "scammed" because they can still use the cards on every other item in the store(not discounted). Do you think walmart would be allowed to slide because of its limited quantity disclaimer? Also, I was not one of the people who bought NX for last years sale. I know many people who did, and I think that it was total bullpomegranite. Black Friday Sale 2011 - dpeterlin - 2011-11-22 Call it whatever you want, if it were unlimited I would most likely participate. It's not so I'm not. I have no chance of getting anything. I don't care enough to check cs constantly and even if i did the odds are against me. Black Friday Sale 2011 - CrazyForDex - 2011-11-22 MissingLink Wrote:Sounds to me that what Nexon is doing is a scam. How can anyone argue that promising big sales and then limiting sales to only 10 items per server is not deceptive. Where does it say on their announcement that they are promising big sales? All it says is that there will be never before seen discounts and that you should get excited. They then end their announcement by telling us that the supplies are limited. They aren't lieing or being deceptive, they are just being assholes. It's not a scam, it's just Nexon being a troll trying to earn money like usual. Black Friday Sale 2011 - Chicocl - 2011-11-22 Eeehm, i know that everyone is complaining and doing all the usual stuff we do when Nexon is going to screw up something but the last time when they scammed all those people, they said that they felt sorry about that and they compensated it by doing another sale on december with time limited items sale (not quantity limited). Black Friday Sale 2011 - LittlePrincess - 2011-11-22 Dark Link Wrote:Well last year was the first time they pulled that kind of crap. 2009 and previous years they had decent / good quantities. They've always had limited quantities of 10-20 and at the very most 50 of the items that they sold on Black Friday sales. The difference is in the past most people didn't want the item being sold whereas in the case with cubes every person wants 500 of the same item. So I would say their quantities were about the same as other items, it's just that the demand is so much more. And while Nexon makes money when you buy the card they cannot assign the money to a specific game until you spend it in the cash shop because your Nexon cash is available in all Nexon games. They can't say Nexon made XXX on Black Friday sales in MapleStory unless people purchased items in MapleStory that weekend. So to help Nexon out, when you feel scammed because the cubes ran out, don't buy regular priced cubes that weekend. Let the NX sit there until after the event before you spend it. Then it cannot be included in the count of earnings because Nexon does not know where (which game) to count it. LOL 2009 is the year they had us go wild over the pink bean pet in the data, then pulled it out in a mini-maintenance in the middle of the sale, resulting in the rest of the sale not happening because items came up with quantities of -1, Black Friday Sale 2011 - Dark Link - 2011-11-22 SaptaZapta Wrote:LOL LOL, pomegranate I forgot about the PB Pet glitch, you've got me there
Black Friday Sale 2011 - Kalovale - 2011-11-22 I don't know what's going on in everyone's head, but 10 (or 100, if you like to argue details) per server deal IS a scam, a very DELIBERATE scamming scheme profiting from the general public's ignorance -either due to lack of thorough thinking or blatant lack of information for decision making purposes-, in my opinion. How is it a scam? There's no misinformation in the works. Nexon said "Supplies are limited", and supplies ARE limited. 10 per server is still "Limited to 10 per server". Calling it a scam due to people stupidity is pretty hilarious. Black Friday Sale 2011 - Mazz - 2011-11-22 Maybe I've just been hilariously lucky, but the only experience I've had with the black friday sales has been pretty positive. A few years ago I managed to grab loads of the AP reset bundles (over the course of 3 of the sales I went from 90 DEX to 4), some permanent equipments and safety charms, store permits, etc. The limited quantities didn't used to be /that/ bad (like, if you entered say 3-4 mins after the hour you'd still have a feasible chance of getting something you wanted), but I missed the 2010 sale. Was that one just really awful? :| Either way, people are going to buy the items in the Cash Shop whether they're on sale or not, so it's obviously in Nexon's interests to put as few of them on sale as possible. Personally I'd like cubes to cost like.. 100 NX each and be sold in bundles of 100 for 8k. No?

Nexon said "Supplies are limited", and supplies ARE limited. 10 per server is still "Limited to 10 per server". I think you can safely agree that whatever Nexon is doing might not technically fall under a scam, but it's not 100% ethical either. And if they were a real world enterprise (and sold actual goods that could be obtained elsewhere), they would never have been allowed to continue these practices. It's actually surprising that they have been allowed to continue these and many more, such as selling cubes as items to improve your gear where as we all know that's not very true. Even if you argue that a cube is in essence is sold as something to re-roll your gear, having so many negative outcomes (like int/luk options on Warrior gear), that Nexon KNOWS is negative but still doesn't inform the consumer of their relative chances seems shady. (I haven't really played since Ascension, so I don;t know if they changed cubing/released data on the chances of cubing yet). It's not even almost gambling anymore, it's obviously rigged gambling in Nexon's favor. TL;DR: People are stupid, but taking advantage of stupidity is not always very ethical. A confidence trick is an attempt to defraud a person or group by gaining their confidence. > As a buyer, should I expect to buy stuff I want to buy? > As a seller, should I expect my customers to want to buy my stuff? While Nexon has claimed and done nothing internally contradictory, they did however deliberately leave out information critical to the decision making process of the customers, which resulted in their FORESEEABLE mistake (and Nexon's gain, as a result). Now, I don't know how you see the world, but if you KNOW somebody is going to suffer for your gain and you deliberately let it happen -excuse me, MAKE it happen-, I'd call that a scam. Black Friday Sale 2011 - Elven Emily - 2011-11-22 Perfect timing. A huge sale that might have the perm Panda and pet equips I need on my main, and my main is coming out in about exactly a month. I hope you're being sarcastic, but just in case you're not: None of the new classes share cash shop storage with anyone. You can't buy your future char a pet in this sale. If they are indeed planning on putting up 10 sale items per server, then yes, by hiding that piece of information they are trying to gain our confidence. Why? Because doing the opposite has exactly the opposite effect, people lose confidence in their chances of purchase and ending up not buying NX. Let's think this through from Nexon's perspective: Do we know the quantity on sale? Yes. Did we publish that information? No. Why not? a/ Oh it totally didn't strike me as necessary. I mean, after all, we are not doing anything unexpected, are we? Why should I include a piece of information that would be at best self-evident? b/ It's tradition! Nobody does and everyone likes an adrenaline rush when buying stuff. c/ Because unlike at the stores where the customers can turn away in disappointment for not getting their stuff (while keeping their money safe), once they've purchased our NX to participate in the sale, they're hooked in, we can take that money for less goods once the sale is over, which it already is. If you can think of any other reasons/motives as to why this happened, feel free to add in and we can see where this goes. With the above three though, I'm confident we have a pretty clear winner. The confidence of who exactly? Everyone who was a part of last year's Black Friday already lost all confidence they had in Nexon, and even years before that. Are you telling me that they're trying to gain confidence in the stupidity of people who believe Nexon will have learned the error of their ways from last year's debacle? Why are we going in a giant circle anyways? Black Friday Sale 2011 - Kalovale - 2011-11-23 Dark Link Wrote:The confidence of who exactly? Old players who didn't participate those previous years? Heck, I know I haven't and I have the means for it now. Besides, just because the kid you plan on murdering happens to be a kung fu genius born once every four thousand years doesn't make you a good person (or not a bad one) for planning such. |
