Hyphon Wrote:Yeah man it's tough. Where I live it's $20/g for dank and $5-$10/g for "regs"/pomegranate weed. I only really buy regs when I have to.

Usually when I smoke though I go in on some bud with my friends, so if there's like 3 of us and we all throwdown 10 bucks we get a 30sack, which is about 1.5-1.8 grams depending on who you go to. That'll give us enough for like...a blunt and a bongpack if we want or however we decide to smoke it.

I recently found a guy who's a medical caregiver and he grows himself and I can get kush for $10/g whenever so I do that a lot now.

While I wouldn't put my enthusiasm in anything before yours in smoking, but if you're going through some "toughness" to smoke, doesn't that indicate some sort of addiction?

Drugs - Homerowed - 2011-01-31

It doesn't necessarily mean you're addicted, it just means its worth the work to you. I've had some crazy adventures to get bud, and I view those as me just really wanting weed that particular night. If I had to, at anytime, I could go cold turkey. I have no real problems going without weed, the only reason I smoke almost every night is because it helps me go to sleep, otherwise I would probably cut my smoking in half, maybe even stop altogether.

What the f'uck guys, 15 bucks a gram?

We get 25g for 75 bucks. It's low tier quality, but it blows your mind.

Also, getting pot ''buds'' (I don't know what they call it over there, we call them ''cogollos''), is feasible if you know the right people and it costs... 150/200 bucks for 25g.

You must be smoking dirt for $3 a gram, or you are well connected, or your area of the world is very different from every single person's I have ever talked to about weed in my entire life, except for you obviously. Seriously 3 dollar grams means you have serious connections to a dealer, where i'm from at least. Also I dont know what you mean by the bud comment, the only part of weed that is smoked to get high is the bud, the other parts of the plant have very little to no thc content at all.

In short our pot isn't expensive at all, its the normal price, you should question if what you are smoking is weed at all with prices like that.

Homemade buds* That's top tier quality.

Mind you, we live in different parts of the world. It's common for us to smoke this. It's pot, trust me. In fact, if I were to convert to your money it would be like 40 bucks for 25g.

For example:

Nice buds I could get from a friend

 Paraguayan pot

It's Sativa, but they mix it a bit with leafs and seeds.

To get 25 grams for 40$ where I live, you must grow or be close to someone that grows. What you are saying to me is almost literally analagous to getting a brand new PS3 for like 20 dollars. Which is why i'm having trouble wrapping my mind around it if you dont grow or don't know a grower very well. (all of this applying to the US, if you do not live in the US, inform me of what country).

Where do you draw the line for addiction? Craving? Dependence? Frequent routine? Heroin-tier? I just don't seem to understand.

And the country flag is right under his User info on the left panel.

Say one night you get a massive craving for ice cream, but you have none in the freezer. The closest store is half an hour's drive away. If you decide to make the normally unreasonable trip to get ice cream, does that mean you're addicted?

Put that to an every day, hell, make it even every week, scenario, now does that mean you're not addicted?

I wouldn't want to argue semantics or psychology, because I'm no expert in neither fields, I just feel that something's off when one chases his craving consciously on a frequent basis. I'm not even factoring in the mental/physical dependence.

The ice cream example would most closely refer to spontaneity, which, as you suggested, is far from addiction. However, if you have ice cream more than 3 times a week with your buddies WHILE finding it tough to afford it yet choose to prioritize it anyway, yes I do think you have an ice cream addiction.

For example, I like computer activities. I engage in such activities frequently. I go out of my way (e.g: saving money to buy computer parts, delaying meals so as not to disrupt my on-going business, etc..) for such activities. I acknowledge I am addicted to the computer, to a certain degree.

I don't really mind how often, hourly even, anyone smokes; but to go out of one's way to keep said habit sounds like addiction to me, and attempts to excuse oneself from such accusations only strengthen my beliefs.

What boggles my mind is how NO ONE, ever, is addicted to weed. It's such a wonderful thing, it relieves your pain, physical or mental, it makes you feel awesome, it makes everything awesome. Yet NO ONE, ever, is addicted to it, to any degrees, including acceptable ones. Smells fishy to me, if you ask.

When did he say he struggled to afford weed to smoke every week? He said the price of weed in his area made smoking a lot tough, never did he imply that he was "constantly chasing his cravings", or in any way giving up other things to do so.

Kalovale Wrote:I just feel that something's off when one chases his craving consciously on a frequent basis.
And yet guys who go to bars and parties every weekend to pick up girls is socially acceptable. Double standards much?

Greg Wrote:What the hell, man. How do so many people adopt the "SMOKE WEED ERRY DAY" concept when weed is $10 - $15 for a gram? I would assume that a regular person puts half a gram into one joint, and that one joint would be considered their day's worth, but that's still like $30 - $40 a week!

How?

Yeah man it's tough. Where I live it's $20/g for dank and $5-$10/g for "regs"/pomegranate weed. I only really buy regs when I have to.

Unless I have been gravely mistaken for all my lifetime spent on forums, direct quotes implicatively follow up on the subject being discussed.
Now you tell me if any frequency is being in question here. I don't feel the need to clearly draw out the train of thoughts contained in those 2 quotes either, as I believe they are pretty damned transparent.

Hyphon Wrote:I only really buy regs when I have to.
Have to? Why? Regs? What about regs? It's cheap. So he has to (I'm not making this up) resort to the more economical solutions to continue smoking, is that not correct? Well, to be fair, that kinda sounds like a habit (read: not addiction) to me. "I eat ice cream every day, and when I can't afford the $2 ones, I opt for the $1 because I have to eat ice cream every day, without fail."

About drinking, I think it's not appropriate here, is it?

Drugs - Sarcasm - 2011-02-01

Kalovale Wrote:Well, to be fair, that kinda sounds like a habit (read: not addiction) to me.

This I think is the biggest gray area, the line between habit and addiction.

Take the following hypothetical scenario:
- When I get home from work every day at 6pm, I have the option of doing activity A (which I enjoy 100%) or activity B (which I enjoy 80%). Logically, I will choose activity A, because I enjoy it more than the alternative. This is perfectly reasonable.
- Now imagine that every day for a year, when I get home after work at 6pm, I choose to do activity A instead of activity B, because every day I know I will enjoy it more. Does this mean I am "addicted" to activity A?

In my mind,
Something is a habit when:
1) You do it routinely because you enjoy doing it
2) You do it routinely because you feel the need to do it, whether you enjoy it or not, but it has no negative impact on the other workings of your life

Something is an addiction when:
1) You do it routinely because you enjoy it, but it has a negative impact on the other workings of your life
2) You do it routinely because you feel the need to, whether you enjoy it or not, but it has a negative impact on the other workings of you life

Under these definitions, habit IS addiction, though addiction adds that the activity is having a negative impact on your life.

Getting back to the original point, when you say "something's off when one chases his cravings consciously on a frequent basis", the above definition is why I disagreed with you. Habits are not bad things. The fact that the poster explains that he buys cheaper weed when money is tighter points to a responsible smoker who has his priorities straight. I don't believe addiction comes in to it at all.

Drugs - Kalovale - 2011-02-01

So only when a habit is bad is it an addiction? And you're one to talk about double standards.

If you'd cast stereotypes aside, you'll see the point I'm trying to make:

- Habit: frequent activities. Period. Anything you do on a regular basis is a habit. From Biting your nails to masturbating, from playing guitar back to I WHIP MAH HAIR BACK AND FORTH, those are habits.
- Addiction: Addiction is a habit plus the physical and/or psychological dependence on said habit. In a very loose sense, you could say everything you enjoy regularly, from ice cream to music, is your addiction. In tighter terms, only when you make conscious efforts to continue such habits when situations suggest that it be temporarily and/or insignificantly discontinued, I smell an addiction coming.

Yet, again, I try to highlight my point, no smoker ever admits to anyone, even themselves, that they are addicted yet go on and on and on to make themselves look "clean"; and that is what makes weed look bad in the view of the outside world, or at least mine. If weed-addicts are so delusional not to even admit that they like smoking so much that they are slightly/acceptably addicted to it (this is where I differ from you, addiction doesn't have to be negative, there is negative addiction, and allowable addiction), I'm sure it's not going to look safe.

I mean, f'uck, how many examples of addictions have I given already? And smoking is still so high and almighty? If you care about stereotypes so much that you have to keep defending yourselves, well, good for you. I'm a basement dweller who's somewhat dangerously addicted to the computer and I'm proud of it. At least, when acknowledging it, I can see the looming danger to be in better control.

Look at Rob, he does his sh'it but he also knows his sh'it. Has anyone seen him defending himself? Yeah he's just that boss. And the one in control steers safe from the addiction, the "real" addiction if you will, zone, that's what I believe.

Drugs - Sarcasm - 2011-02-01

We'll just have to agree to disagree I guess.

Also, from the sound of your posts, you seem to have the impression that I'm a smoker as well, which I'm not. Just making it clear.

Drugs - Kalovale - 2011-02-01

Yeah man, "I can drop it if I wanted to, I just don't want to."
What bullsh'it is that? You won't call it an addiction until you're royally f'ucked in every hole that fits?

Non-smokers need to stop stereotyping against smokers, or smoking in general; it's doing nothing but helping to push potential addicts into denial and thus susceptible to the real dangers. That, though, is a bit too much to ask for considering how weed is still illegal. So it would be more practical to ask smokers to get a goddamned grip of themselves and see things for what they actually are, neither sugarcoating smoking weed nor criminalize addictions. Think of it as another habit (or addiction) of yours, a bad one if you will, since it's technically illegal, and don't let it go too far. People are even addicted to carrots, I don't see how less than 9 out of 10 smokers would like doing it. They just aren't admitting it and making themsevels, and smoking, look bad.

No, it's just the common thing here. Think about it this way, the more acquisitive power, the more expensive drugs get.

Oh, by the way, I live in Argentina, South America, yes, weed is a lot more cheaper here.

Firstly, thanks, it's nice to see someone recognizes my true self behind the screen. Brofist Kal.

Secondly, yes, I'd call addiction to the craving need of smoking.

I'm a social smoker. I've never smoked weed alone. I don't need it, because my life is nice as is. Doing it with friends/girlfriend is pretty awesome though, because we laugh, we get food and crack up and whatever else. To me, when you start to smoke by yourself regularly and you need it to lighten yourself up, you're starting to get addicted to it.

My 2 cents.

Drugs - Homerowed - 2011-02-07

I look at the deal with addiction to weed as an analagous relationship to my bed's second blanket, sure I could sleep without it, but i'd prefer not to. Would sleeping be less comfortable? Maybe, but it still wouldnt affect me that much if I had to go without it, but if I have it, or a friend down the street has my blanket, and I have the option of getting it or not, imma go get mah pineappleing blanket, and sleep with it/on it.

Not a serious post, and i'm done with the addiction topic, it's tired and played out, and it is not the topic of this thread.
