The only class I had on the day was cancelled because the prof went out of town. So I technically can't skip school even if I try.

Eh, people skip classes for far worse reasons than Maplestory. Honestly, I don't see a problem in skipping a day of class every now and then, even if is for Maplestory. However, to answer the question, I did not skip class for the event, though the event didn't even start until after school was over for me.
