Pikachu. No srs, I solo'd elite 4 with pikachu on my first PT of Yellow version when I was like...6. I didn't know we were supposed to train more than 1 pokemon!

I had a bunch of HM mules. On a real playthrough, Pika, Pigeot, Raticate, .....? OH. 2 of the 3 starters, because Yellow got all that. Blast/Char iirc. I didn't like Venasaur.

Oh, and this guy: [Image: alakazam.gif]

Wait, you could get the starter pokemon in Yellow?

I must have missed something then in my Yellow. I never realized you could get them... Maybe I'm blanking...
And you Rival got an Eevee? ...

Bulbasaur in Cerulean, Charmander in Route 25, and Squirtle in Vermilion.
Rival gets an Eevee.

Probably my line up once I get into Soul Silver:
1. Milotic
2. Lucario
3. Umbreon/Zangoose
4. Dragonite/Garchomp/Salamance
5. Arcanine/Metagross/Gliscor
6. Dusknoir

Mmmm I like my tanky/Sweepy Pokemons.

In my boredom, I already bred my HG team about a month ago and I just have 6 eggs sitting around in a box in Pearl. They have near-perfect IVs, good natures, and useful egg moves, but since EVs are resettable anyway I'm just going to play through the game normally.

Sneasel!
Hitmontop
Leafeon
Zubat
Rotom
Trapinch

Haven't played since then except to get a Jirachi, but I'm all ready to go.

Pre building your team sucks.

I'm starting with nothing but 5 pokeballs and my totodile.

!!!!!

I just replayed Silver 3 months ago and I don't want to ruse the same team again, the only Johto starter I like is Cyndaquil, and bum rushing through the game with one Pokemon bores me.

I'm using Pokemon I've never used before (except Crobat and Sneasel).

Pogeys Time - Ryanide - 2010-03-05

I remember all it took to complete G/S/C was a :-

Typhlosion (Equake, flamethrower/wheel, thunderpunch & quickatk)
Crobat (Bite, wingattack, confuse ray & fly)
Suicune (Surf, Icebeam/Aurorabeam, waterfall & whirpool)

Easy 16badges&E4. Red's Snorlax was such a fudgin pain in the butt.

Anyway, if you have an R4, are you able to trade with other DS'es (r4 or not)?

*raises hand* I got one on both Diamond and Platinum.

I've got a bunch of Pokémon waiting at my Diamond, and some at Platinum (although I might be better of training them there, but HG/SS don't have the Griseous Orb so I don't know what to do with my Origin forme Giratina) to transfer to Soul Silver once I get it. These Pokémon include:
Bibarel (Cut, Rock Smash, Rock Climb, Strength)
Lugia (Surf, Fly, Waterfall, empty(for Whirlpool) got it from the MTS so yeah)
All my competitive Pokémon on Diamond: Porygon-Z, Weavile, Tyranitar, Dusknoir, Breloom, Umbreon, Lucario, Infernape, Garchomp, Forretress, Abomasnow, Darkrai, Electivire, Heracross, Sharpedo, Gyarados, Salamence, Regice and Houndoom.
Pokémon Ranger Special Riolu.
Event Jirachi.
Pikachu colored Pichu (x2).
Shinx with Pokérus.
Untrained from Platinum(with good natures): Dialga, Palkia, Shaymin.
Giratina-O (can anyone help me out with getting either an even Arceus for the event or just the Griceous orb?).
Rotom.
And probably even more things.

I'm also planning to make Soul Silver my main game, with even more playing time than my Emerald (which has 489 hours, Diamond has 411, Platinum has 68(lol) and FireRed has about 250 hours total) although with the 5th gen coming up this might be hard.

My team I plan to have troughout the game:
-Typhlosion
-Crobat
-Ampharos
-Victreebel
-Gyarados
-Gengar

It's going to be awesome. Or at least, I hope it's going to be.

Pogeys Time - K!yO - 2010-03-06

Since everyone else is talking about teams, I might aswel contribute e-e

I tend to start with a team, then add on people that others use to screw me over. So that would be

-Bronzong
-Gyarados
-Kingdra
-Porygon-z
-Infernape
-Roserade

Odd, but really annoying >_>

Pogeys Time - Bountyan - 2010-03-06

I still need to breed a Scyther with better IVs. I hatched 2 with good Nature/Ability but have sucky IVs <_<

Pogeys Time - Ryanide - 2010-03-06

I've read Serebii.net's explanation on EV/IV and I still don't get it. I'm attempting to try out competitive battling, but I'm sure without these info I won't be able to make it very far.

So, help?

Umm, I guess a way to make it simple would be

EV's are earned after defeating a pokemon. After defeating 2 of that pokemon, (correct me if I'm wrong) you gain one EV that pokemon would give you
Example: Defeat 2 Kadabras and earn 2 EV points for SP.Atk
The points are then added on to the pokemons stats after it levels. EVs to one stat is capped at 252, max EV's altogether is 510

Natures Raise one stat and lower another, But there are 4 natures that raise nor lower any stats
Example:Lonely Nature: Raises Attack/Lowers Defence - Hardy Nature: Raises None/Lowers None

IV's are the pokemons personality, i.e. Highly curious, Loves to run, etc. (I call it secondary nature) Each of those also add a boost to one stat, but there are 5 or 6 to each stat, and one for each that boosts the stat the most.

Pogeys Time - Kawasari Mimoto - 2010-03-06

You explanation is almost accurate, but not entirely. I made an EV-list on GameWinners.com Forums 6 years back when R/S/E was huge. Uhhh.. for example, if one Gardevoir gives 3 SPE. ATT EVs, killing one Gardevoir = 3 SPE. ATT for your Pokemon. If you kill another, you have now accumulatively gained a total of 6 EVs for Spe. Att. For every 6, equals a stat point.

Ex:

6 Spe Att EVs = 1 Spe Att
6 Att EVs = 1 Att
ETC

Best way to gained EVs during R/S/E for me was to look at an EVs list, then look for the weakest and easiest Pokemon to find. Overly common Pokemon that spawns often works great. Max EVs that is applicable to a stat is 252, but max EVs total is 510 EVs per Pokemon. So if you were to divide it up, 252, 252, 6. 3 stats can only be boosted this way, unless you want to divide the numbers up differently, then sure, you could do more. Most people don't really bother though. For a more in-depth guide to what I just stated here, go to http://www.smogon.com

For the pirates out there. It's out.

Also I can't help but notice. It only takes 4 EVs to gain 1 stat point. Not 6.

-smirks- Relevant to my interests.

Pogeys Time - K!yO - 2010-03-06

I needed that too. I never fully understood, so I just kept killing stuff 'till I didn't continue gaining +12 of a stat Rolleyes
