At max level it hits 140% on 6 monsters which comes out to 840%. Thats better than invisible shot which does 170% to 3 monsters which comes out to 510%. And to people who say you have to charge it to go very far, why not just use it as a close range skill? Plus, there's not many places where it's viable. c-2 in magatia [or w/e] is the only place i heard where it's good. But I also heard invis shot is great in magatia too. Then that is really, really strange. :f6: Ask a Pirate Thread - Takebacker - 2008-12-10 Why grenade sucks (this is a response in reference to the famous video of grenade actually being used): First of all, that video indicates roughly a 15 second set up period in which to spam bomb. In that time, she threw 12 bombs which would shave off roughly 10k damage (one fifth if i remember right) of a risell squid. In that 15 seconds, i could fire off 22 invisible shots or triple fires. Invisible shot: 10,560% damage in 15 seconds. (480% (or 160% x 3) x 22) Burst fire: 13,860% damage in 15 seconds. (630% x 22) MAXED GRENADE (which because i know for a fact before even calculating this will be out damaged by burst fire): 5040% damage in 15 seconds. (420% (140% x 3) x 12) Not to mention that grenade has it's own damage formula, which seems to ignore mastery but i am not sure. There's also the fact that if you're hitting 6 monsters, the hit box that grenade has is fairly small. Small enough to miss one of the monsters, lowering it's already bad damage. Even if you doubled grenades hits to 6 monsters, you'd get 10,080% (840% x 12) damage in 15 seconds. Ask a Pirate Thread - Dusk - 2008-12-10 If you've actually played a Slinger, you'll quickly realize that it's A LOT easier to stun a mob and kill with Invis than run around dropping Grenades at point blank. You have better crowd control with a 3 target mob skill and a 100% stunner than a sloppy 6-target mob skill. Also, ^ yeah, Grenade does shitty damage. I don't use it except to lure a mob that's really far away, or to finish a monster on a platform high above me when I'm too lazy to climb up. I just think grenade is a cool skill but if its gonna significantly lower my training ability later on I wont max it. One other thing, has anyone actually maxed grenade? It's purpose really doesn't change from levle 11 to max and you can do whatever you want with it at that level. And longer booster > shorter booster. I hate my level 11 booster on my fp and would so SP reset it if they were cheaper. Ask a Pirate Thread - Dusk - 2008-12-11 You can max Grenade if you want, and leave Booster at 11. It's entirely up to you; it's your build, and it won't hurt your training speed. Its only negative impact will be the shorter buff timer. Let me just say a few things, though: - You can have just as much fun messing around with a level 11 Grenade. You get 11 Grenade just by not putting any points back into 1st job (and you can manage that just by not putting any into Flash Fists or more than 11 Somersault Kick, which are both fine where they are). That rules out maxing Grenade because it's cool. - Grenade's actual purpose is so limited even I can't find any reason to use it. This is coming from someone who supports maxing skills with niche uses that don't necessarily come into play in the best training spots, like Inferno for Rangers and Poison Breath for F/P Wizards, because I try to maximize versatility in my characters. There is one situation where I have actually been impressed with Grenade, and that was when I dropped a Grenade in the pit in the first Gryphon map to kill all the turkeys that had collected in the spot that teleports you one map back. LOL. - Grenade's niche use, which is basically sniping hard to reach targets, becomes completely replaced by Air Strike in 4th job. Maybe even Gaviota in 3rd job, but I'm not sure on its range as I don't have it yet. - Corsairs only have one buff to keep up (Booster, not counting MW), which is the fewest of any class in the game, but 90 seconds is a lot to give up. I know at 11 it is 3hit, but just wanted to know if i should even bother using it until then. |
