Luffy's crew? It'd have to be one of the ones without a power already but i think that would ruin the dynamic. I was wondering whether the fruit was poisoned or if it revealed itself or something as a fruit for some reason. I'm not sure who could be the one to come in contact with it and eat it since it's in the middle of slimey's gas, and i'm even more interested in what power it is since, again, it's in the middle of slimeys gas and wasn't revealed to be a fruit until that condition happened. Very strange.

Not strange at all. Smiley "died" in this chapter. Logically It's the devil fruit he had eaten, i.e. the Sara Sara no mi Model: Axolotl.

This raises a good explanation for how blackbeard managed to ensure he got Whitebeards Devil Fruit. If when you die, the nearest fruit takes on whatever power you had upon death, that would have explained why Blackbeard needed to be the person who was closest to whitebeard, and all he would have needed is to be carrying an apple or some other fruit when he attacked him.

But why would being close to him have anything to do with bypassing the effect of having two devil fruits resulting in death? I understand slimey and whitebeard having their powers transfer to the nearest fruit, but i don't understand why the "no 2 devil fruits" rule being bypassed all of a sudden.

I personally put more weight into the Cerberus theory rather than the confinement theory though.

Both theories are interesting. I don't think the Cerberus one could be possible because of the reasons already stated there, though.
The other one could be it, but instead of absorbing other people and using them, I think he absorbed the "Devil". By moving the first Devil into that space, he could avoid the fight between the two devils and his body wouldn't explode. That could mean he may be able to eat not only 2 or 3 devil fruits, but an infinite amount of them.

Chimerism is also a popular theory besides the Cerberus one. It puts one of Marco and Whitebeard's comments on Teach's body into use, in contrast to confinement. I also don't personally believe in Cerberus fruit, because on Fishman Island, a flashback of Whitebeard's crew (in both the anime and manga, if you want a specific source) claiming the island shows Blackbeard with a pair of big metal claws- that's very likely how he scarred Shanks's eye. Confinement or it being an extension of his Darkness powers doesn't cut it for me either. And yeah, this chapter actually does raise a really good question. If a Devil Fruit user dies, does their power transfer to the nearest fruit or fruit similar to its original form?

Chimera sounds logical. 2 different "people" (sets of DNA i guess?) in the same body therefore enabled to have 2 devils fruit. T really confirm I suppose we'd need to see if Black Beard can absorb another power/transform himself. If he can trasnform, cerebus is most likely true. If he can't absorb anymore, it's more likely he's a human chimera.
Also I think the poison gas monster nommed on a fruit to make it like a giant poison ash cloud. Ash explains why people were hardened into statues and the poison would kill them instantly. Did the poison blob gain sentience from an experiment via science or from a devil fruit? I don't recall any explanation, so I guess it's up in the air.

Wrong way around. At some point during the last 4 years, they fed the poison gas the Sara Sara no mi, and it became the huge slime.

I dont think he would be because his son is involved. He seems like a character who will help through the island then let them go, I feel like Law is going to become a nakama/ally. Now that the other super nova's have a 3 way alliance, I think luffy and law will combined theirs.
