I'm not entirely sure how much of the first X games depends on luck, and how much of it depends on skill. Though if you have overwhelming skill, you'll just cream the opposition if you pick the appropriate champ.

EDIT: Here's a solid post explaining the ideas behind why the seasons are doing a soft reset instead of a hard reset (the latter being used so the people it hands concessions to can experience their downfall again).

Everyone above 1500+ Rating gets dropped back to 1500, but everyone else that's at 1499 or lower gets dropped to 0.
Also who cares about the soft reset. Even if they did a hard reset for everyone, all the GOOD players will just solo / duo Q back to 2000+ and the whole thing goes unchanged.
