I personally would love a fairy type. Not for game balance reasons, but just so that some pokemon begin to "fit" more. as said in the link, Clefable and Togetic are 2 pokemon which spring to mind as being pokemon which don't seem to fit under the normal type.
Pokemon like Delcatty fit under the normal type, because it's a "normal" pokemon, based off a cat. normal types are very simple like Snubbul, Ratatata ect and usually are based off simple things like basic animals, with no big thrills attached.
That's were pokemon like Clefable and Togetic start to seem like they don't fit there. they are magical pokemon, not based off of anything in reality.
The inclusion of Sylveon and Xerneas makes sense too and gives more credibility to the theory. Sylveon is based on a nymph or sylph which are fairies, and explains why Sylveon has the same "magical" qualities as Clefable, which is why we can't pinpoint it's type.
Xerneas makes the whole deal very interesting by showing a Fairy-type which isn't small or cute, and again it is quite difficult to pinpoint it's type, in contrast to Yvetal which is quite easy due to it's dark colouring and flying.
A fairy type allows them to draw further on mythology and create more magic-themed pokemon which could lead to some very interesting pokemon later down the line.
So basically, I would be very happy with a Fairy type, and I hope it is true.
EDIT: it's weird that I used Snubbul of all pokemon as an example, considering it's called the "Fairy Pokemon"

Milotic, Togekiss... wow I must love fairies for my favourite set-up to become like that (assuming the above is true).
Am quite curious about the type dis/advantages that this Fairy type would have. I hope it's not game breaking... (compared to when Steel was revealed in Gen II).

It's been a long time since I posted in here, but I just want to lend my support towards a Fairy type as the Pokemon posted above are indeed very different from ordinary normal Pokemon and they're unique enough that a new type would be fairy fantastic. /pun

And for the love of god limit Stealth Rock to a max of x2 damage, or give it a type alternative for balance. Too many pokemon almost utterly unusable in competitive because of it.

My sentiments too, though maybe not necessarily the dragon bit because Fairy type doesn't quite feel like an offensive advantage against dragon. Unless you want to pull in... fairy tails...

In regards to Fairy's weakness, if they really want to take it from Folklore:
Steel (Due to their weakness to Iron)
Poison (Due to their weakness to pollution)
Grass (due to their weakness to lemons ((yes this is a real thing)))
Ghost (with death being the opposite to life energy, I suppose)
earlier pokemon getting their types changed can be explained away too. Maybe a gateway to the area where fairy pokemon resided is torn open and fairy pokemon are discovered, through this they realize that pokemon like Clefairy (whose origins are unknown) and Togetic (who comes from a mirage dimension) are also technically classified as fairy type, similar to Magnemite and Magneton and how they were classified.

Majority of pokemon with different transformations just simply switch their specific stats (Defense vs speed vs Attack). Super buu and kid buu was a comparison of psychopath vs a child's innocence, who can't understand the concept of repercussions.
