3DS discussion with Tokyo Gameshow Tidbits: Ace Vs. Layton - Punch - 2011-08-31

They really could've atleast made a save state of some sort.. like emulators allow..

Sigh, hoping the GBA games near December are atleast worth it Monocle

When has it been okay to complain like a whiney child about free stuff?

It's free. Take it or don't.

@Punch : I agree. I REALLY, REALLY hope Minish Cap is one of the free GBA games. I would do anything for it.

3DS discussion with Tokyo Gameshow Tidbits: Ace Vs. Layton - Punch - 2011-08-31

I'm just complaining a bit because this is what Nintendo is giving us to make up for that $80 price-drop..

I didn't expect these games to be worth $80 total.. but they could've atleast been tweaked with the Save option, just like emulators have.

Has anyone tried playing them yet? Theres a touchpad menu with the opion 'Resume' and 'Reset'.. why could've they add more options like 'Save' or etc. Simple stuff

Oh hey, lets make ourselves the moral superior by insulting the mental age of a person with legitimate concerns that should never have come up in any game, port or not released today. Aren't I so smart friends!

And no, in case you had forgotten, it's not free, these are supposed to make up the $80/ whatever extra you paid in your region for the price drop.

The last time I checked, a similie isn't a form of insult.

They're free games. Nintendo didn't have to do anything to make up for the $80 price cut. Be glad that they did.

They've already said that when the NES games actually go on sale, Ambassadors can "upgrade" to the version with the regular save state option for free. So just wait till then if you really can't stand playing them as is.

Though wow, you're really whining about being unable to cheat?

Did not know that. Thanks for the information.
And how is that cheating? x_X I understand what you're saying, but "cheating" is a little extreme

In theory, they didn't, but if they didn't want to hemorrhage the people who were probably nintendos loyalist consumers, yes they did. They could have at least done a good job of it. At least 5 of these games are utter pomegranate, and several of them are virtually unplayable by todays standards.

And nintendo knows it, or they wouldn't be preparing the things the games are missing for the sale release of them in the eShop. The fact is, people can live without manuals and such, but save states should have been there now.

You're saying that save states aren't cheating? :f6:

Punch never said he wanted save states. He wants a legit save system, which at least half of these games do not have. There is no reason for password "saving" in any game being released in 2011. Especially not as a "we're sorry guys, we screwed up". If they dropped those and added a proper save function to the games, this conversation wouldn't be happening.

Heck, since the suspend feature doesn't work, I wouldn't be surprised if the games with replay value that relies entirely on high scores don't even save those. (That would be Super Mario Bros, Yoshi, Donkey Kong Jr,Ice Climber, Balloon Fight, Wrecking Crew)

The upside is, of those, you're probably not going to want to play any of them other than Super Mario Bros more than once anyway.

3DS discussion with Tokyo Gameshow Tidbits: Ace Vs. Layton - xBTAx - 2011-08-31

Those games aren't built to have save systems. Going back and adding them is a waste of time, especially since not many people care or even want them.

Excuse you. Balloon Fight and Wrecking Crew are awesome.

3DS discussion with Tokyo Gameshow Tidbits: Ace Vs. Layton - NoJobNoRules - 2011-08-31

Just throwing in two cents, but technically, Nintendo didn't have to offer ANYTHING in exchange for the price drop. You wanted the 3DS earlier than others, so you went out and bought it. You knew a price drop would happen eventually (what system hasn't had one?), but you decided to get it now rather than wait. You should be appreciative that they offered 20 free games for those that bought it at the original price.

3DS discussion with Tokyo Gameshow Tidbits: Ace Vs. Layton - Bahamut X - 2011-09-01

Can't really complain about the free games, though there could have been a better list with all A-list games.
I may have lost out on Megaman Legends 3 with the cancellation; but who's to say that we don't see a set of more retail games in the 3DS library at the near future. At least we're not talking as bad as the Virtual Boy with a being a pain to use with & without glasses. (The VB controller was fine, the display was crap.)

3DS discussion with Tokyo Gameshow Tidbits: Ace Vs. Layton - Sarah - 2011-09-01

These games are alright but without save states I'm not really enjoying them--especially Mario and Metroid where you only get a few strikes before it's game over. I'm really looking forward to the GBA games as long as they don't gyp us with total crap. Minish Cap alone would make my life.

3DS discussion with Tokyo Gameshow Tidbits: Ace Vs. Layton - Mark - 2011-09-01

Jesus Christ. Never seen so many casuals lumped into one place. We didn't get "save states" back in the day!

 Spoiler

Metroid has a password system anyway.

I don't play games to do the exact same thing over and over again. That's why I quit maple. I played and beat most of these games as a kid but I don't have the patience anymore. I've been spoiled by the evolution of gaming.

If there were an option to have actual save points as opposed to save states, I'd take that any day. Saving at the beginning of each Mario stage would be just fine by me. Zelda is perfect the way it is, for example. But a game like Metroid is too deep to expect you to run through in one solid play (where do you even put in the passwords anyway!?)

Also the controls on the 3DS are really unresponsive.

3DS discussion with Tokyo Gameshow Tidbits: Ace Vs. Layton - Mark - 2011-09-01

Save points in older games kind of takes away the spirit of it. A 'game over' is supposed to punish you from sucking too hard. But back in the day we had no choice but to suck it up and try again. Hence the term "Nintendo Hard" was born.

At any rate...

 Super Mario Bros. Super Secret.

It starts you off at stage 1 of whatever world you got to. So deal with it.

You're welcome.

3DS discussion with Tokyo Gameshow Tidbits: Ace Vs. Layton - xBTAx - 2011-09-01

In any case, according to Siliconera, "While the NES games do not have save states, your progress is saved if you switch to another application, return to the home menu or turn the system off."

Just how old are you? Things change man, they change for good....

And why don't you let people complain about something that makes the games less enjoyable?

Anyway, I didn't got them cause I didn't bought the 3DS before the pricedrop, which I'm still expecting to see over here. Any of the free games are worth the bucks to buying them with my half dropped 3DS?
