Polantaris Wrote:I'll be honest...I saw the preview of this movie when going to see the new Superman Movie, and I thought the whole, "We need two pilots for one mech!" thing was utterly stupid. I was actually liking the entire preview until I saw that, it just seemed like, from the preview, a silly plot device so that the main character can save the day.

I also hope they don't cheap out on the "Giant Robots vs Monsters" scenes like the new Star Trek movie did with Space Battles. That was so disappointing.

Razmos Wrote:Agreed, the "two pilots" thing was a very convenient plot device. and it was also a incredibly thinly veiled metaphor.

"It's hard, to be connected to someone for so long, and then to have them just suddenly gone. I'm not sure if I will be able to connect with anybody else" - More or less a word for word quote regarding the linking process.

The in-movie explanation worked for me when you think about it.

Describing Pacific Rim as an American Evangelion movie sounds just about right, with way less angsty characters and a lack of a depressed director (which is pretty true considering the director for NGE was battling with depression when making the whole series).

I agree. I'm pretty this is what came out after they analized evangelion and got rid of the elements that would make it harder to sell like the religious elements and the personality disorders.

And also, I didnt know anything about the Japanese Jeager, but you pretend to tell me the japanese made a mecha and didn't name it Gundam+ something? I mean Mecha is a genre because of Gundam, heck they event got a real sized Gundam statue. If there's PR2 let there be a Gundam Freedom Rolleyes

Guess that universe works like pretty much all zombie universes(i.e. they never had the type of media we had about said stuff).
