I don't understand why people say Old maple was so much better - Sorien - 2011-07-04

The only reason I miss the old maple is because monsters used to actually pose a threat. Once the Potential System was released, pretty much everyone, with or without cash, was able to rip through every monster that had the misfortune of actually spawning up. It's not nearly as fun to deal 100k damage when the monsters only have 50-70k hp and can only do 1-2k damage while the player has well over 10k health. The damage dealt by players is wasted, and the damage done by monsters is only a problem for explorer archers and thieves.

Basically, I enjoyed the old system of upgrading equipment where it would help the player at level 100 to kill a monster in 5 hits instead of 7, unlike the new system where it helps a player at level 100 kill a monster in 1 hit instead of 1 hit that's slightly weaker.

The game might be easier, unchallenging or whatever for some of you who have reached the peak of economic stability and considerable power. But for me at least as a casual player, the game has gotten more interesting and "rewarding"

There are more feasible ways to upgrade equipment than to hunt for illusive scrolls or pay ridiculous amounts of cash for them or for an already scrolled item. Now you can actually hunt for your equips and work for getting whatever stats you need/feel like getting (and it's actually possible to get satisfiable results!). BB added diversity of training spots and made leveling less of an omgIjustleveledafterfivehoursbutnowineedtostartoveragain chore. Now it feels like it's actually possible to reach the higher levels at a pleasant pace, it feels like you are going ~somewhere~.

And now the profession system will add yet another much needed set of goals and variety.

Really, there are only a few things I find disappointing nowadays. For instance, the massive nerf of the bosses and the "higher" level mobs (including CWK, which was just thrilling pre-BB). Making the stats of monster the same for every level range did take out some of the charm as well.

The FM economy is also a disaster. But eh. I guess you can make it a goal to hoard enough money to buy a 250mill 10 atk work glove.

Community has more or less always been the same. It's just that as the population grows, so does the odds of finding a-holes, braggers or whatever (A-holes in the internet, not a miracle). Community doesn't have much of an effect on me though, as I am a lone-wolf type of player anyway.

Overall though, I think the game has gotten better. I think some of you just need a fresh start and to put less focus on getting stronger as fast as possible or whatever it is you focus on. Really, there's still fun to be had in the game, it's just a matter of changing perspective for a bit.

Also, I don't miss playing for 5 minutes -> wait half an hour for HP and MP to recover.
I don't miss "Yey I got to level 30 after a year! Now I can use more slash blast until level 70 after two years, and then I can use more slash blast until 120 after an eternity."
I don't miss having to train in a very restricted number of mobs in order to get a halfway decent experience gain. And I don't miss the massive KS parties that used to form in those places either.

Words Wrote:The first time I tried the game I was only able to play for one week... the game experience was awful and I didn't even understand why it was awful. As I came back and learned it was because of hackers and the community in general being awful.

Made my first character, a mage. I couldn't go anywhere to train because there was one hacker in every channel killing everything. I had to go to to other maps where it wasn't so great just to get harrassed by others because "my damage was weak, my character was awful, etc". I got my 2nd job after grinding a lot just to get more awful comments "ewww a i/l mage" and that kind of stuff. I can't remember the exact date but I know it was 5 years ago.

When I came back 3 years ago there were less hackers (which made me stick to the game) but the community was still awful except for few people.

i'm pretty sure during my time when vkpt/gpt/gbpt/sqpt was in place, ice/lightning mages were SO WELCOMED at 8x+. they were good and welcomed and respected
and for the hackers map, im pretty sure u came into the unpopular maps, which is where to hackers are. hackers during the time tend to hack at unpopular maps because if there are many coming into their map their hack wouldn't work Smile

It feels like two different games for me. Before you had to invest a lot of time and dedication to the game to reach your achievements. Now it's just all dumb luck and NX for the same achievements. The content in the game has gotten a tad bit ridiculous too. Whenever I see a new class I just lol.

In the old maple you only had to expend ludicrious amount of Mesos to get good gear.

Now you need to spend Amusing amounts of NX to get 1 Decent equip (See craptential and the infinite cube use to get epic-3line-good stats)

The grind in old Maple was balls-off-the-wall ridiculous I admit that, but there's one thing that Old Maple can be proud of. At least Old Maple didn't get screwed by the got dang NX:Meso inflation that just won't seem to stop. I miss the days it was 5m-10m for 1k NX. It was easy enough for new players to get money, and a godsend for higher leveled players who have steady ways to make money. Now I can't even get money from Temple of Time anymore, and the inflation made boss runs hard to profit from because not it has to be 3-line potential boss equips or bust.

It always sucks to see your hard-earned character going down in value. I spent countless hours, countless days, YEARS to get my DK to just lvl 106. I spent 9 months for my bishop to get 4th job. No 2x cards, no 2x family buffs. So when grinding is "better" now, it's not actually good for all people.

The huge minus right now is, though... the Cash Shop. There's too much NX stuff, too much advantage from NX items. MTS was nerfed to semi-useless and Nexon doesn't seem to plan on releasing NX trade. Market has inflated so much that it's impossible to get good gear without nx or exploited mesos

Enjoying how people are so into getting "good gear" that they curse potential and whatnot. I'm using a 100%'d lvl 77 Maple Crossbow at lvl 159. :3

Yes, I loved never being able to boss without HP washing because I picked the wrong class. Gotta love archers getting OHKO'd by 90% of things.

It's sad yet amazing being able to solo Pap. I still freak out when I see bombs. Hell, I still use ice shot at Zakum mobs since that's all I remember doing. Weeee.

As I tend say..
Old Maple: one for all
New Maple: all for one

There's much more drama these days, as well as pride in being rank 1, having the best equips compared to everyone else and flaunting it in everyone else's face, etc etc =/.. really I could go rant on and on about why it was better before... but there's just too much increase of immaturity in the community now.. quite pineappleing sad.

Lulz. Maple ALWAYS depended on luck. Be it the past or present.

A big part of why I prefer RPGs to sandbox-type games is that I like sitting through a storyline and a defined system of progression rather than just experimenting. Some degree of open-endedness is good, but not too much.

What is there to do gameplay-wise besides get better gear? Maple's storyline is almost nonexistent, the grind is ridiculous, hunting for rare items is worse because you at least with grinding you have a progress bar, and a new area or boss comes out like once a year at best. Nexon relies extremely heavily on people wanting to get better gear and people who can be entertained by the release of new classes to keep this game going. I played one character at a time and I didn't care that much about gear, and I was always bored out of my mind.

What? Have we been playing the same game? It's always depended on effort, not luck or skill, really. Once you get to a high-enough level you can do mostly anything with ease. Seems like it's always been that way.

Old Maple depended more on time, effort, planning ahead, organization, and a tiny bit of luck.

Edit: Didn't see the post above. Ahaha...

This. Now that i'm 18x i can participate in basically anything important maple releases and it'll be so much easier than if my main was 40 levels lower. Case and point: Professions.

Let's get one thing straight about the Community change.

Maple's community was passable until they made the horrible mistake of advertising this game on TV and game Magazines... the only thing that can come of that *IS* horrible people that don't really have a respect for gaming community and generally agreed on ideas. ('lol who cares about balance' 'I use hacks cause its fun...')

Maple being mainstream is the game's biggest financial benefit for nexon AND its biggest curse for gamers who loathe stupid people that don't get it.

The only thing that really bothers me is the growing dependance on NX to do better in the game, it used to be Skill and Luck that got you through the game. Now anyone with a very disposable income can be the best.

This so much. I hate potential and yet love it at the same time. I love the idea of potential, I hate how teh idea of being forced to use NX to get godly items.
