So what is the point of Pink Bean? - Random_Overlord - 2010-12-22

Secun Wrote:IIRC Pink Bean was a failed attempt at reviving the Black Mage.
So what, does that mean the Black Mage is pink and pudgy?

No it means Pinkbean is Milhouse in the Blackwing's eyes.

Black Witch: HEY LET'S SUMMON THE BLACK MAGE THROUGH THE GODDESS MIRROR!
Blackwing grunts rabbits: Hell-yeaz!!

8 hours later the black witch drops a left over chubby chicken drumstick on the mirror, then pinkbean comes out and snarfs it down in a big gulp. :3

Black witch: ... Crap, it's a pokemon, ok everyone, lets go home and figure out a different plan.

....

Then everyone dies.

Emerald and Ruby are not part of the original game (but possibly intended to be in the original). The bosses that people are thinking of from Final Fantasy are like Omega Weapon. In FF8, it gives you nothing except an Omega Badge, and that does nothing at all.

Although, I dont blame people for expecting a reward for beating an optional boss or having a significant acheivement. Video games have changed significantly from the old days, where people mostly played for the challenge and high scrore or other accomplishments for bragging rights.

Reading this post reminded me of something: I'm surprised Maplestory doesn't have an achievements system yet. That sounds like something right up Nexon's alley, especially considering it's a huge time-sink for players and doesn't require much work to code (at least I presume).

Medals.

Good point. However, I feel like the medal system is still too clunky and not expanded enough. I was thinking more a WoW-esque system, where achievements (in this case medals) would be categorized more thoroughly than they are now (IE Quests, Bossing).

Here's the thing with the medals system though, completing the requirements *always* yields a medal. With an achievement system, it wouldn't necessarily be like that. You'd receive points based on the difficulty of the task, which you would then spend on point-exclusive items. But that isn't to say that certain requirements wouldn't give respective medals, as is right now.
