To me a forum is where a person stands up and presents something, and others discuss it, and the opener may or may not comment on the comments made. this is going back to the ancient roman setting of the Forum.
social networking is where a group of people gather and all of them present an idea and everyone comments on it.
that dynamic where 1 -v- many is where i see the difference between a forum and a social networking site.

And it doesn't really change the fact that it's lame. You enjoy talking with people on Facebook, that's fine. Some people enjoy talking with people on Southperry, that's fine too.
