Not that the flowers that the Japanese names represent have any correlation to the trees picked for the English adaptations. Professor Oak's Japanese name can be translated to Orchid or something.

I can't make out what it's name is, the scan is too low quality. What is that, コナ? Looks like +Something+kona or maybe it's a ゴ, making it "gona"

I posted a link to what it is. It's a Japanese Yew. アララギ = 蘭、 which I had to look up because that's a kanji that's pretty much only used in freaking names.
Could also be this thing, which looks more like a flower and would make more sense when paired up with the other Professors (who all have flower themed names in Japanese).
