Starbound [Winter Update!] - Dark Link - 2013-12-13
Spoiler
The one major problem I have with the game thus far is your starmaps are saved to your "server" and not your character. I unlocked Delta and Sector X on single player, but when I wanted to go to those on my friend's server, I had to craft the boss summoning items, kill the bosses again, and craft the starmaps again just to be able to go to Delta and X on his server. Nevermind that the bosses only drop ONE of their items, which encourages solo play, which made our other friends get upset about being "left behind". EDIT: Reached the "end" once again on an Apex this time. Balancing still needs a lot of adjusting at Threat level 5 or 6 and beyond. Monsters end up reaching the status of being able to 1-2 shot you again, but they take 3-5 hits to die. I was on a Threat level 10 planet in full Violium gear and monsters were hitting me for 90-100% of my health.

From what I understand from the last few dev posts I've read, they haven't really built anything outside of Threat Level 4, at least content wise, so this isn't really all that surprising. What I am surprised at is where people tend to get weapons from, because it seems nearly impossible to me. There's a few you can craft but once that's done there's really nothing to get better gear outside of that. The drops and loot all seem to be set for Threat Level 1. The game refuses to give me anything better through chests, drops, or scavenging homes. I think the generation might be a little bugged, because after I unlocked Sector Beta I went to a new world in Sector Alpha and found Diamonds and Platinum, but was fighting mobs that were clearly Threat Level 1. I've already reported it so hopefully it gets fixed. Overall differentiating between each Sector seems to need more refinement. For example you shouldn't find Diamonds in excess inside Bookshelves at Threat Level 1, and mobs that hit you for 50 damage at Threat Level 3 shouldn't be dropping weapons with 15 DPS. Hostile NPCs drop weapons at probably around a 70~80% chance. I actually made a suggestion about that on the forums, but the thread pretty much went unnoticed with only 11views and no replies. Basically I pointed out how obtaining the vast majority of important minerals shouldn't be possible on lower threat planets, and should gradually "unlock" when necessary as you progress since at the moment you can skip a TON of work at higher tiers by already obtaining everything you need on threat level 1. That's my problem. Everything I kill, regardless of Sector, gives me gear as if I was in Threat 1 still. I don't know if I'm just extremely unlucky or what. 案山子 Wrote:I actually made a suggestion about that on the forums, but the thread pretty much went unnoticed with only 11views and no replies. Can hope it only went unnoticed by other players, and that the devs did indeed notice it. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Dark Link - 2013-12-15 Sneak update happened last night. Quote:Changelog for v. Offended Koala 15/12/2013 Starbound [Winter Update!] - Razmos - 2013-12-15 I'm seeing a lot more unique looking ground-monsters after this update. I also found a village of mushroom-race people with giant mushroom houses! they even had guards with unique physical features and hair (mushroom) styles. and even their own language. I wonder if they will be a playable race eventually? Starbound [Winter Update!] - Dark Link - 2013-12-16 Guess this was massively overlooked for the most part The Future of Starbound! The topic is being updated often. EDIT: Topic was converted over to the Starbound website with some added stuff. Starbound [Winter Update!] - 案山子 - 2013-12-16 Anybody know how to call a monster back into its pod? I can't seem to find any information. Starbound [Winter Update!] - SuperNerd - 2013-12-16 From what I know, there are only two ways to bring a creature back to a pod currently: A) just let it die and it supposedly will return back to its pod; B) use another pod on it to "capture" it again. Working on my moon base. Unlocked everything and found it tedious to find more Iron and stuff to make Steel so I just used a mod that essentially enables "creative mode". Inb4 character wipe. Spoiler
Starbound [Winter Update!] - 案山子 - 2013-12-23 Game updated earlier.
Changelog:
WARNING: Meteor Showers can happen at random and destroy any blocks they come in contact within your "spawn-radius", meaning NPCs and buildings can be destroyed and you can't do pomegranate about it; they are also a OHKO if you just started and have no gear yet. Also, playing ANY instrument causes a CTD (Crash To Desktop). The game just completely closes down with no error message given. There was also another partial wipe. Ships and planets were wiped. Planets are likely due to the changes made to their generation, but ships I don't know -- maybe in preparation for the ability to upgrade your ship to larger sizes. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Dark Link - 2013-12-23 Liking the new "Asteroid Worlds". Really sad my ship was wiped. I had it set as my "Home" after the previous "full reset", but wasn't able to get anything salvaged. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Encyclopedic - 2013-12-23 Yeah, don't really see why the ship was wiped. Oh well, I'm happy I carry my most valuable stuff on my character. I checked out the new moon biome and it looks absolutely amazing. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Dark Link - 2013-12-23 Apparently ships are now classified as "Planets", which is why they were wiped along with Planets. Starbound [Winter Update!] - 案山子 - 2013-12-27 Not interesting until they balance the game. At the moment those harder modes are just going to piss people off who use them since you're far more likely to be killed in some random, cheap way than any mistake on your end. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Razmos - 2013-12-27 Yeah, they should really work on making the game more fun and balanced for casual players before catering to "hardcore" players who want a challenging game. Save that pomegranate for when the game is fully released, not during testing stages. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Imaginal - 2013-12-29 ![]() I grade this game "F" for too much fun + The skyrails omg
