Currently Airing Anime - madanthony - 2013-04-03 Magi 25: Eh. Better than Ao no Exorcist. Season 2 confirmed for fall, and from the manga readers it seems like they just squished two arcs together in the last half and made up Alibaba's transformation. Shouldn't be hard to continue from there I guess. I'll keep watching. Marathoned Zetsuen no Tempest: Pretty damn good. I'd put it at my third favorite of the shows that just finished up, behind Shinsekai and Psycho-Pass. Followed the Gurren Lagann plot pattern of a really intense first half followed by a half dozen oddly slice-of-life-yet-still-plot-advancing material then finishes up intense again. Aika was a really great character and the other MCs were also quite watchable. Nice to get some relatively alpha, decisive MCs. The Shakespearean elements were well blended and well explained, considering I've not at all familiar with Hamlet or Tempest. My biggest complaint is the extent to which Hanemura seemed to be some sort of half-retarded MacGuffin. Felt good to clean out 26 GBs of shows I won't be saving. All that's left to watch is GLORIOUS JOJO Currently Airing Anime - madanthony - 2013-04-05 Karneval 1: In which Araragi finds himself in a black hair/white hair pretty-sure-it's-a-BL show. Meh. I'll give it another episode or so. First episode was so intent on introducing as many mysterious figures and plot-lines as possible without a single likable character introduced. Next morning edit: Hataraku Maou-Sama 1: I'll give this one step up from a meh - an eh. A good premise for what might become some sort of harem rom-com. But it still might become a harem rom-com, so... historically, that does not bode well for my viewing taste. It also has the hard job of coming right after Maou Maoyuu Yuusha, even if they are totally different in concept. Devil Survivor 1: Best of the shows I had no preseason hype for so far. A little sad they didn't actually kill anyone off, but not every show can be Ga-Rei :< Red Data Girl 1: Oh ho. That was solid. PA Works has a knack for quality. I'm curious where the supernatural elements will end up. Currently Airing Anime - Curtiss - 2013-04-05 madanthony Wrote:Karneval 1: Darn it, I had thought Hataraku might have been promising. Devil Survivor 1: I'm watching this now at behest of my friend. Looks good so far, the animation is crisp and the story is intriguing enough but what IS it with the Japanese and death portents anyway? That's rhetorical considering what series this branches off from, heh. Currently Airing Anime - madanthony - 2013-04-05 Curtiss Wrote:Darn it, I had thought Hataraku might have been promising. I mean, it wasn't bad. As slice-of-life/harem/romcoms go, it actually seems pretty fresh. I just have a strong bias against the genre in general, so it's rare for me to hype a show like Hataraku straight out of the gate. I'll be watching more of it. I'll be watching more of it. 6 chapters into the manga, and there's only one girl with a crush on Sadao. Excluding Emi, who seems to be tsundere for him.
Oh, yeah: The action will return!! ...though as of chapter 6 it's still only just beginning to return, so I can't really say for sure how long this trend will continue, or if it'll devolve into some stupid harem pomegranate midway. Currently Airing Anime - madanthony - 2013-04-05 Hanabira.Kage Wrote: I'm very pleased to hear this! That intro scene was quite enjoyable. Aku no Hana 1: Everyone here should watch this episode. It's just... damn. so bad you should give it a few minutes of your time. Those backgrounds with buildings in them should be adopted by a more worthy show because that rotoscoping is so bad, I want to drop this show after a single episode. But I'll probably watch one more, just to see if gg goes full-retard troll subs. That might make it fun. Currently Airing Anime - Hanabira.Kage - 2013-04-05 madanthony Wrote:I'm very pleased to hear this! That intro scene was quite enjoyable. Well, by return I mean...
Spoiler
Like I said, the action's only beginning to return around chapter 6 (actually started around chapter 4 or so), so it's not full-blown SWORDS AND MAGIC battles yet (screw the slow scans, ugh), but if it carries on like this, we'll probably start getting a pretty healthy dose of action every week soon enough. Currently Airing Anime - madanthony - 2013-04-05 Hanabira.Kage Wrote: I don't need full blown SWORDS AND MAGIC. Spice and Wolf and Maou Maoyuu Yuusha were above average because they managed to blend a really healthy mix of fantasy and romance elements (Whereas Shana and Zero no Tsukaima went too far in the 'romance' direction, as previously described). If Hataraku turns out to be some cliched combination of shounen and harem, I'd probably still watch the whole season and call it decent and entertaining. (If only because I have nothing time-consuming in my life right now to cause me to fall behind) Currently Airing Anime - AzureKite - 2013-04-06 Hataraku Maou-sama! is so great. Demon Lord working at MgRonalds? GENIUS! Also, it parallels Maoyuu Yuusha I feel with the hero/demon lord references, which is kinda cool. Also that Ash Ketchum hat pull-down with his MgRonalds hat was great! Currently Airing Anime - Curtiss - 2013-04-06 It sounds like I ought to give it a try then. I just hope it doesn't become too focused on being a romantic comedy as I tend to dislike those too. Currently Airing Anime - Flonne - 2013-04-06 So far this season is decent, only one show I dropped, and that was 10 seconds in. Aku no Hana is probably my new absolute worst show, just based on the art style. Or lack thereof. I don't care if it had the best premise of any show, having to stare at a screen akin to dog pomegranate for 20 minutes just doesn't fly. Currently Airing Anime - madanthony - 2013-04-06 Two shows I've been dying to watch out tonight. Attack on Titan 1: ![]() That was horrifying. And that music made me wet. And now for something completely different. Azazel S2 1: First time I've ever seen dingleberries in an anime. This show is perfect. Currently Airing Anime - Curtiss - 2013-04-07 Attack on Titan 1: That animation. That music. The end result is simply amazing considering the manga's artwork is fairly lacklustre still and it stays true to the opening. 10/10 so far and I'll be eagerly waiting for the next episode. Currently Airing Anime - Hanabira.Kage - 2013-04-07 Curtiss Wrote:Attack on Titan 1: I can honestly say that that was the best first episode I have ever watched. Ever. It's topped even SAO's first episode in my list.
Currently Airing Anime - Curtiss - 2013-04-07 Hanabira.Kage Wrote: Fate/Zero would have ranked highly too but it does suffer from being an exposition episode since that's how the light novel started out. AoT's presentation was gorgeous and I enjoyed how scenes would just stop at times so you could see the details more clearly. Currently Airing Anime - Flonne - 2013-04-07 oreimo 1 ![]() also, little kirino is a miracle of the universe. I wish she hadn't dyed her hair. Currently Airing Anime - madanthony - 2013-04-07 Suisei no Gargantia 1: Oh wow. As a single episode, that was even beyond Attack on Titan. On top of that, one of an extremely select number of instances where 700+ MBs for a 720p episode could ever be justified with mediocre encoding. Everything was on point. The music was varied and fit the mood extremely well. It blended appropriately but stood out when the situation changed and warranted a shift in audio. Production I.G. was stellar. They're always on point but they really blew this out of the water (Waterworld references partially intended). We all kinda saw it coming, but the character designs are seriously exceptional. Everyone stands out as they should and are gorgeous, except for the Jango Fett kind of clone-ish thing going on with the intro half soldiers. This was certainly intentional but even then, Ledo and the colonel were distinguishable as the two primary characters from the first half. There was straight up nothing wrong to my eyes and ears. All that remains is to watch the magic of the Urobochi script play out. 11/10, *slow clap*, BRAVO! This is one of the best openers I've ever seen. God damn. Serious fuggin' treat to get Titan/Gargantia as a two show wombo combo back-to-back with the Shinsekai/Psycho-Pass wombo combo of awesome. Only show left I'm marking the calender for is Railgun, and a few "I'll-give-em-a-shot" shows (Valvrave and Katanagatari - which I never finished the first time around but figure I'll follow up with this time). That is, unless, someone can convince me to watch OreImo S1. Currently Airing Anime - Flonne - 2013-04-09 TWGOK S3 is apparently confirmed for July now? > http://yaraon.blog109.fc2.com/blog-entry-15571.html yay Anyway uh Hayate S...5? 6? Are there any other SoL shows that have run longer than this one, holy crap >Monster Hantou Portable pfft, haha Hina seems cuter this season...anyway, Hayate is pretty badass, only sleeping 1 hour a day. Plus, another look at bunnygirl Hayate! Currently Airing Anime - Razmos - 2013-04-11 Dansai Bunri No Crime Edge episodes 1 and 2: I must admit, I only watched the first episode because the synopsis sounded absolutely ridiculous. A guy who is obsessed with cutting hair, a cursed girl who's hair cannot be cut, and his magical cursed scissors which allow him to cut it. It sounded fairly stupid. The first episode though was actually pretty good. His fetishistic attitude towards hair was a bit weird and annoying, but the revelation in the second episode about the nature of the Killing Goods makes it seem a lot more sinister. He isn't obsessed with cutting hair, he's obsessed with cutting and "killing" because he's cursed by the soul of a murderous ancestor who cut people up with scissors. After this reveal the show is starting to look a lot like a Mirai Nikki/Higurashi kinda show. Currently Airing Anime - madanthony - 2013-04-12 All of the season's lesser shows came in strong enough for their second episodes. Devil Summoner doesn't feel like I'm watching someone play a videogame in the way Persona 4 did. RDG upped the ante and seems like it'll strike a good mix of supernatural with romance. Hataraku was even funnier. Karneval... Well, it didn't get worse. As one of the ANN reviewers described episode 1, "It's as if a creator sat down and said, "Hey, I have a great idea for some characters," and then forgot what these characters are supposed to be about, or what they want to achieve. So instead they just get into awesome butt-kicking fights and go places." None of the characters are likable as of yet and the plot is still non-existent but it is awful pretty and action-packed enough to keep my attention through an episode. (But seriously, the Circus Defense organization puts on actual circuses for whatever town they just cleaned up in? Stupid. Yet oddly logical.) Valvrave 1: gg sez: Wrote:I dont even know what the pineapple to think about this show. Its like a mixture of Code Geass + WWII + GUNDAM SEED + Power Rangers.Sounds about right. I am so okay with a space Nazi Geass clone. That would be delightful. |
