Final assignment for this graphics class is an 18x24 poster. Finally some creative liberty within the class, although we don't get to choose the subject. At least I'm not bound by color choices (or lack thereof) or by text. I'm actually kinda excited for this. Making posters are fun. I'm thinking it'll be an all-vector project Glitter

OH AND SUMMER (sorry if I already said this, I don't remember), but I'm gonna be going to Des Moines, IA for probably 2 weeks~ish to be spending time with my real mom, that I haven't seen face-to-face since I was 4. THAT IS NINETEEN YEARS TO CATCH UP ON HOLY pomegranate. I'm more than a bit stoked.

Also, concert in Chicago at House of Blues on the 19th of May with my best friend. Eeeee Shine

Also, it seems all your teachers are having interesting lives at the moment.
Yeap. It's...not bad, really. There's some rumor floating around for it to be localized in the US...Either way, Vanguard isn't really that big...yet.
As for my day, well, I've been considering on making a Gaming PC from not entirely scratch, but from some scrap parts during my summer break...the ideas.

No interviews for PhD programs sadly, but I am still in the running for a couple of master's programs. Its time to activate plan B. Get into a master's program and study like mad. I got the opportunity to interview with a professor about her mentoring me for my master's thesis, so I have been studying her research and going over basic statistics. re-learned how to do t-tests.

On a related note, I was thinking about re-learning calculus as well since I forgot most of it (a warning to people still in college: what you learn DOES leak out if you dont apply it).

I talked to my physics professor a few weeks ago about getting involved in on-campus research as a Freshman since I am on track to graduate in three years, and he agreed to introduce me to the professor of the lab I found most interesting.
I did not know what lab I wanted to be in - I want to eventually be involved in space exploration (NASA/SpaceX/etc), but I feel any topic of physics could be applied to that.

I came back the next class with my top five choices, with number one being a High Energy Physics (HEP) lab. He emailed the lead professor, and showed me the response.
In my professors initial e-mail, he said : "He is very young so not so useful."

Sad

And the HEP professors reply basically said he doesn't accept freshman, but to focus in on HEP specific courses if I'm really interested in it.
I just sent him my own e-mail explaining my situation and what suggestions he has for me.

Fingers crossed. Also going to be applying (next year) to NSF research opportunities at either CalTech or MIT, since those are my top two graduate schools I would like to go to.

I really hate to sound arrogant, but after today I feel pretty pineappleing popular amongst the housewives of Katy, TX. Three ladies came in today wanting custom arrangements, specifically to my store for me, because of word of mouth. I'm excited to work with them because they're all wanting something modern and my taste, and they all have great color combos to work with. Cha ching, money in da bank~ *

In other news, I've been loosely talking to one guy for a while who is really cute and talking to another guy for a few days who is beyond hot. The first guy is really spotty on messaging and can't tell if he wants to meet or not, and the other guy wants to straight up meet and pineapple and be FWB but it just feels so sketch. Fuah boys.

Had my first class with the most inclusive, tolerant and open minded teacher. Since he's a producer and scriptwriter, we watched a national homosexual romance movie suggested by him. After the movie he invited openly gay students to talk about the impression and encountered feelings induced by the drama and how the supression of our sexist society could aggravate them.

Mad experience. Biggrin

Went on a three hour hike and we got back to our car just as a severe thunderstorm hit. Hope the generally nice weather sticks around for a few days (tho it doesn't look like it will).

Hey, bravo for knowing what you want to do an being proactively ahead of the game compared to your fellow freshman peers. What I bolded in your post is exactly what you should (and hint to all: um, EVERYONE) do when networking with once-prospective contacts: thank them for their time, explain where you are and where you'd like to go, and ask for advice. I think you'll find yourself moving forward sooner than you may think with the move.

Regardless, I think you'll be fine as you'll have plenty of time in graduate programs to devote your life to the research you so passionately want to pursue. That's not to say you shouldn't continue trying to get into a lab as an undergrad, of course, but that you shouldn't berate yourself if you don't invent wormhole time traveling by the time you graduate.

Relax. You can easily get one next year Bryan.

Even though I go to Cornell, freshman are treated like rubbish at career fairs. Rolleyes

So I can fit in with the crowd?
I was rejected from Ivy Leagues for undergrad because I did exactly that. I didn't create my own opportunities.

That obviously has to change - not only to get into graduate school, but to make connections to help me find a job.
I have an entire year less than most people to get lab experience. Yeah, that'll look good, but what does it say about me if I don't try my nuts off to get into a lab ASAP?

Even if I don't get in I can at least say I tried and have proof to back it up.

I mean obviously you have to try (I've applied to about ten different internships) and it'll be amazing of you could get one, but if you don't, you could take summer classes or something during freshman summer.

Today I learned that shooping in a background for a signature is easier to do on Paint.Net than on Corel. ಠ_ಠ That new signature speaks of the results.

I don't really enjoy video editing montages with Sony Vegas anymore. So I've been playing around in Adobe After Effects lately

 Spoiler

Oh, and I'm now halfway done watching FMA Brotherhood.

As someone who's worked in both Final Cut Pro, and After Effects/Premier, i can say that once you get to know After Effects and Premier, you'll love them.

I was stuck in traffic for 2 hours only to find out that there was a major car crash that blocked half of the 710 freeway. As I drove up to pass the scene, I saw a a messed up car that was horizontal to the road and two crashed SUVs at the side with a whole bunch of police officers.

My friend with benefits ended the benefits part :/ For some reason, it hit me hard and got me depressed for like an hour, but now I'm kinda meh.

Ironically, I may have shown her that she still has feelings for her ex :c|

Heating in my house is still broken and I am so cold

Waiting for an email from my university to tell me if I'm able to transfer to Philosophy or not, should have had it today but I believe they stop at 5pm so I'll have to wait til Monday. Sad

So much stuff is going to change in the next 1-6 months and I am not sure how well I'll handle it. I don't have a great track record with coping with change.
