Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Jedward - 2013-10-02

I can't recall where, but someone posted a little theory about the character reveals that went along the line of "veterans first, newcomers last". It makes sense, get information about the oldies out right away to make for better hypebuilding as the game inches closer to release by just showing new characters then.

So, really, I would just sit and wait.

The problem is that they already flat out said that the roster will be limited because of their 3DS problems. As a result, the more old characters they reveal, the even lower chances of getting new characters, which is already pretty low with the combination of smaller roster and a large roster in Brawl.

Plus, it's kinda annoying when they "reveal" characters that we would be stupid to not expect, like Luigi and Peach.

I'm not saying EVERY reveal should be a new character, but they haven't revealed anything new in the last....5 reveals? Meanwhile they gave us two obvious ones, and a reskin.

Takebacker Wrote:I really wonder what kind of drops they're going to make if they really are keeping the roster slim since pretty much all of these were pretty solid characters except maybe pokemon trainer.

Pokemon trainer could easily be made to work if they just removed the fatigue system where each of the 3 got weaker over time. But then at that point, they might as well just give the 3 pokemon their own character portraits and separate them entirely.

Since both links are in, the only "clones" (for lack of a better word) we have left are the star fox trio, falcon/ganondorf, ness/lucas.

I'm still not sure why we need 3 star fox characters when the series hasn't had a new game in 7 years, and a good new game in even longer.

I get the feeling the "slim roster" thing is probably being misunderstood. We already know 17 characters, and the game isn't out for ages yet (For comparison , we only knew 25 of 37 characters or so when brawl launched). Presuming a rough equal number of unrevealed characters at launch, would mean we can expect at least 29 if no more are announced (and that isn't going to happen).

As I said above, I think the 3ds problems probably are being misunderstood. Perhaps it refers more to the number of models on screen at once (hence why olimar appears to have 3 pikmin instead of 5 now) and I slightly suspect the problem he refers to may be to do with the ice climbers.
File size shouldn't be a problem at least, as the 3DS can in principle have 8GB cards (though the biggest so far is 4)

The first two moves sure, but it didn't look like Luigi resisted at all when the third came around.

And this is assuming that it isn't just for show.

Oh wait i'm an idiot. It looks like his up smash is brand new, being replaced by that ABYSMAL rising ball thing he did before.

Also DAT RUNNING SPEED. Far faster than brawl was.

Use this word one more time without being able to explain the differences between characters and i will shoot you.

Sure looks impossible to escape to me, if not it would be at a higher percent. He still has up-B -> bair if his usmash sends them too far.

Remember that this game is going to have higher hitstun than brawl and melee, so combos are confirmed regardless.

I don't think the fatigue system was unreasonable, but i thought the options to avoid it made it a bigger deal than it should have been. The switching animation was far too long, the outcome of switching was too easy to predict, and there were no options to defend yourself out of switching. If they changed all that and made the fatigue timer longer (maybe a minute and a half or so) it would be a lot better.

I can understand star fox becoming a trio, but i understood lucas even less. Earthbound isn't exactly the most popular franchise, and they have games coming out less often than star fox does.

I would say fox/falco/falcon/ness are guaranteed though, they're all either extremely popular characters or have been in every single release. I really want to see ganondorf use his damn sword though and i know i'm not the only one.

Fair enough, I guess. I mean no one can really tell from footage alone; one would actually need a hands-on experience to actually tell. Pre-Brawl speculation comes to mind. Ultimately, I can't be sure just as anyone else cannot be sure; this thread is pure speculation.

Also, that's up tilt, not up smash.

People in the community dissect the f'uck out of everything and have great reasoning behind it. Speculation is speculation, but what they do is a higher level than that.

This pretty much confirms that Megaman can activate Rush while in midair like Sonic can, and without going into fall special afterwards. Rush will likely fall to his death if you do this offstage, meaning you can't use this recovery again. Given the radius of the shockwave is twice as large and faded compared to Sonic's at the same height, it's a pomegranate recovery that has a large startup time that goes nowhere near as high or as fast. This also confirms that Megaman is a Sonic clone.

Isn't that just his Up tilt?

@above: Yeah i guess it's just to display his new dash speed, then? :/

I agree with everything. Older videos of megaman and current knowledge of sonic support these statements.

I'm expecting a Pokemon (Mewtwo, or perhaps a different one) to join the roster in the next few days so they can cross promote.

Could be funny if Mega Mewtwo. Y would be similar to his Melee appearance, X would act closer to Lucario.
