Starbound [Winter Update!] - Polantaris - 2013-12-07 Reako Wrote:Unfortunate, but not altogether unexpected. We WERE told going into this beta that there will be the occasional player wipe. That's fine though, this new system they want to implement sounds more understandable and user friendly. I'm also confident in my ability to get caught back up as needed. Hope those people I gave weapons to had some fun with em... Yeah I'm not too surprised at a player wipe for this change. It's understandable to want people to test the new system. Looking forward to it, right now it makes very little sense. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Dark Link - 2013-12-07 The Armor Pen change is a MUCH needed change IMO. It's never been a good mechanic in any game I've played. Especially since it makes for the game to have absolutely no "middle ground" whatsoever. You either 1-2 shot everything, or everything 1-3 shots you. I'm curious as to why this would require a character reset though. Starbound [Winter Update!] - 案山子 - 2013-12-07 My reaction after reading that post: ![]() Armor penetration was by far the worst aspect of the game. I am SO fucking glad it's being scrapped and everything is going to be drastically rebalanced. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Dark Link - 2013-12-07 Can't believe people are complaining about the Armor Pen change and are saying they're "dumbing down" the game. There is absolutely nothing fun about the current game model with how INSANE scaling is with "Level" right now, unless you enjoy getting 1-2 shot just trying to advance to T4 and beyond. Titanium can only be obtained on Threat level 30+ planets and the best armor is level 15 (or 25 supposedly) at that time. Especially since it makes for the game to have absolutely no "middle ground" whatsoever. You either 1-2 shot everything, or everything 1-3 shots you. It's to make sure the early game is still playable, and the balancing makes sense at all aspects of the game, not just the near-end-game like most people are already at. Most people will not willingly start over just to test it, unless they were going to start over anyway. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Razmos - 2013-12-07 I'm very happy about these changes, it WAS a little bit confusing, and annoying. There was no real sense of progression. with full silver armour I was still taking 40+ damage from enemies on threat level 5+ planets, and with your max HP being a flat 100, it meant that i'd have to heal after every single fight, it was a drain on resources. hopefully the tier changes and buffs to armour will make this less frustrating. I'm a bit sad that my character will be wiped, but oh well, gives me a chance to try out another race. Oh, by the way, I found another crew member! I found a "Doctor Spawner" in a chest and it spawned an Avian Doctor onto my ship, he sells bandages, red stim packs and first aid kits. I found a "Doctor Spawner" in a chest and it spawned an Avian Doctor onto my ship, he sells bandages, red stim packs and first aid kits. I found a Stim Pack vendor spawner and had the most awkward experience with it. So I place the spawner, go down to my planet and mess around. When I head back to my ship the vendor is on my ship. I IMMEDIATELY react by saying out loud to myself, "Yoooo~~ o.o" (Yes, like he could hear me. I've lost control of my life) That EXACT same time I accidentally right-clicked and instantly killed him and yelled "OH GOD!!!!!!!!"..... then proceeded to fucking laugh my damn ass off. Good times. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Dark Link - 2013-12-07 Lucked out EXTREMELY hard and found a level 33 planet with Titanium nodes on the surface / slightly beneath the surface. I'm in the process of crafting the Durasteel armor and whatnot to get access to Aegisalt and beyond. The armor pen update can't come soon enough. Having to survey level 30+ planets with T2 Class armor is really dumb. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Razmos - 2013-12-07 I accidentally murdered my Doctor friend, I died in combat when I was about to attack, and when I respawned on the ship, the sword swing kept on going, and killed my doctor ![]() RIP Crewmember #2 Starbound [Winter Update!] - Spadow - 2013-12-07 Friend unlocked beta sector. We went to this amazing underground lab. Found this beauty: ![]() Gonna stop playing and wait for the next update which will be coming soon. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Dark Link - 2013-12-08 I killed the "Decoy Princess" boss, sadly the boss is similar to the UFO boss and you can barricade him in a box and just faceroll through the wall. I'm up to Ferozium right now, which is around "Level" 33ish. I hope the ore rebalancing fixes the ore generation. Platinum being ridiculously rare Titanium being only obtainable @ Threat 30+ Aegisalt being ridiculously common at Threat 35+ Apparently Cerulium and Rubium are stupidly common at / near Threat 40. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Reako - 2013-12-08 I have reached the current "end" of this particular beta content and am awaiting the reset myself. I got my hands on some level 43-45 melee weapons and 40 guns, as well as the full set of level 36 armor (which is as high as it goes currently, so threat level 40 worlds still twoshot me, sometimes oneshot depending) Rubium is indeed super common on a threat level 40 world. I had no troubles whatsoever acquiring enough to make everything related to it. I have to say my favorite weapon right now is an incredibly fast one-handed dagger that fires balls of energy with each slash, and it's level 45, too, so there's nothing it doesn't take down. Guns are nice, but feel terrible for use against on-level monsters, though they're great for bosses, if you plan to fight a boss "legit". They also even the playing field when faced with other humanoids armed with guns, because trying to melee a guy with an assault rifle who can oneshot you is kind of hard, haha. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Razmos - 2013-12-08 So for people who have progressed pretty far in the game, what kind of biomes have you discovered? I thought there was just Arid, Desert, Moon, Forest and Snow, but then I got to Beta sector and discovered a Jungle planet, what other kinds are there? I saw a lot of different kinds on the wiki, but some parts of the wiki are just made up of promotional screenshots and stuff released and not actual beta info. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Razmos - 2013-12-08 Reako Wrote:Ooh exciting, I look forward to finding them eventually. I think it's cool that different kinds show up in different sectors ![]() Thanks. I'm wondering if in the future you can explore gas planets by flying with a jetpack and wearing a special suit, that would be an interesting kind of planet. EDIT: and of course Novakids wouldn't require a suit! genius. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Razmos - 2013-12-08 Yay, Pixel banking! I was hoping for something like that, it got painful when I was moving onto dangerous areas with 6000+ pixels and losing them all
Starbound [Winter Update!] - Dark Link - 2013-12-08 Good thing I also reached the "end" today then. Rubium so freaking common it's ridiculous. It's like the "Copper" of Threat 38-40 lol.
Starbound [Winter Update!] - Reako - 2013-12-08 So what dungeons/neat locations have you all stumbled upon so far? I don't think that's really been discussed here yet. Might be good to cross reference our findings and know just what's lurking out there. |
