I don't watch manga/anime as much as you might, but I can't recall that scheme being used anywhere else except when the character participating has always been portrayed as a dumbass (IE: Naruto). It might have been used before but it's nowhere near to common or overused IMO.

First, Fairy Tail doing better than One Piece right now? You must be nuts. This Punk Hazard stuff is crazy awesome. The kind of stuff people love from One Piece.
On the other hand we have Lucy's first sign of competence being snuffed by a cheating while fighting a boring opponent.
It's not that Raven Tail is cheating. Cheating is easy to do. Its cheating and getting away with it thats hard to do. Honestly, why the hell did no one call Raven Tail on their obvious cheating? Better yet, how do you have both the first and third master as well as the remaining members of the guild all clustered there and none of them notice this snaking hair sitting behind the child? (Some bad parenting there also). And even after that was discovered, no one calls them on it. One of the announcers even realizes something was wrong with the magic cancel and no one is calling them on this?

I'm pretty much with shippo on this one. The whole thing is just weird. Like i don't know what's going on with the author's thought process and why he thinks this outcome makes sense. There were better ways to get the "f'uck raven tail" message across without these shenanigans that the hardened members of fairy tail should have caught on to especially with them going into the tournament suspecting foul play in the first place. He could have made the committee rule lucy's victory void somehow. I dunno.

The other way around. Levy probably was the one to die after leaving a message behind for Lucy. I would be intrigued that someone is gonna die in this arc if it wasn't for the Tenrou island one, where we all though a lot of people would die and they didn't, now that charlie knows she probably will warn them all and they will change their fate.
Anyway the fight was good but too damm fast, Mashima sure wants to get done with the tournament to get into whatever is going on behind the scenes.

DFS scans has it translated as "The one who re-equips"., and the guy says "Er...Er..." right after he says he can't remember the name. PLus all the foreshadowing in the remainder of the chapter... It's obviously going to be Erza vs Baachus.

God, what a waste of a chapter! -A few words from Natsu about being loyal to the guild (which we have seen so much of in the manga/anime). It was kind of interesting knowing all dragon slayers are weak when it comes to transportation, but I was hoping for some action....and LF>Lucy to use the constellation spell and not be interrupted.
