Heavily considering purchasing a madcatz TE since I want to (eventually) go to tourneys and other competitive events for this game, and maybe other fighters.

TEs are lovely. As a heads up though, don't spend more than 100$ on one unless you really want one like right now. Almost every time there's a major tournament or something, Madcatz will have a sale where they're 99.99$. Also, most tournies are played on PS3 as a heads up.

Piggy 2.0 Wrote:What are you guy's opinions on Controller vs. Pad? I use a PS3 controller since I'm naturally used to it, but I'm thinking about switching to a pad since I heard that button presses respond faster/I am super clumsy with the controller, I can't help but seem to botch up every move I attempt to do with it 40% of the time. If you have both, which do you prefer/feel is easier to use?

With a regular controller vs a dedicated fighting gamepad, it's really just all preference. The PS3 dualshock is actually considered to be one of the best controllers to use for fighting games outside of sticks. I wouldn't get a dedicated fighting game pad unless you play on Xbox.

Ranked up to fighter last night. Now I'm not getting any ranked matches when I search for the same rank(s). Do I pretty much have to search for any rank now? If so I'll probably have to spend a few hours trying to get my magneto loops down in the training room.

2 things:

1. Note the awesome Boomer Kuwanger remix.

2. It's time to bust my ass learning my characters so I'm not calling every player I meet 'cheap'. I'd love it if you guys could
beat me up and make me think instead of relying on knee-jerk reactions.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 General - IllegallySane - 2011-04-02

Same here, Piggy. I've relied too much on reacting, not to mention I've yet to be able to be able to pull off stuff like that video. Really loving how close to the ground he can execute Raikousen, not to mention taking advantage of Zero being completely invincible to launch an unstoppable punishing move.

Day 2 of self-improvement: MY FINGERS HURT. If only I applied this fervor to academics.

May I ask which part of the country you're from? As far as I know here in NorCal, Starbase and RAMnation have Xbox setups, and today's charity for Japan tournament in Union City was running on Xbox as well. We couldn't play in the tourney because we only have PS3 sticks. :<

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 General - Twilight - 2011-04-04

Let's see what I learned today:
1. People like to not block with incoming characters.
2. A new Tron combo that can waste my opponents X-Factor
3. MODOK is very good against Phoenix/Dark Phoenix
4. I'm very terrible against Phoenix/Dark Phoenix.

I wish I could play but im soooo busy!

I want to start playing SUPER agressively with Phoenix (not dark phoenix)!

I live in Georgia. Final Round and the Revival monthlies are on PS3. The bi-weekly near Atlanta is on Xbox though. I could have sworn most tournaments were on PS3 though since that's the standard that Evo uses, but it seems some games are shifting over to Xbox. CEO in Orlando this year is using Xbox for Marvel and SSFIV. Actually, it's probably a regional thing since Atlanta is one of the best cities to play Tekken 6 in, and since Tekken is always on PS3 since a solid 50% of Tekken players use dualshocks, everything else is run on PS3 as well.

Then again, my arcade stick is multi-modded so I normally don't pay too much attention to the console (also I mostly play Blazblue and Arcana Heart which are always on PS3 since Blazblue cuts off a large chunk of the sides on Xbox on a standard definition TV, and you need a Japanese Xbox to play Arcana Heart on it).

I just watched a few tourney vidya, and I must say this:

My fellow black people are more like me than I thought. I FOUND A NICHE.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 General - >Pineapple - 2011-04-04

Anyone want to play a few rounds? Bored of rolling people in my general rank area.

Xbox live only.

Having M.O.D.O.K. on your team makes people rage quit...in lobbies.

M.O.D.O.K. is quite range inducing, yes.

Alright, gonna start practicing those combos this week, but I got one question before I inevitably make myself want to throw my controller at the wall. Should I try to master my combos on Hard, or very Hard? As we all know on Very Hard the computer has borderline mind-reading powers when you're NOT being cheap and play keepaway, but I feel Hard isn't a good enough gauge against Online mode.

Been neglecting practicing, but I usually practice against a unmoving dummy until I can get the combo down-pat, then gradually add levels o diffuculty until its second nature. And what I'm doing are like the super-basic 15 hit combos, them BnB combos look terrifying >_<.

Phoenix sucks balls. Well, she's good but she dies in one combo by any competent player. Unless you're running godmode hacks she's only good for her dark phoenix 1v3 sweeps with level 3 x-factor.

Gah. Started doing more combos with Zero and Amaterasu today, going to start mixing in Hulk and MIKE MOTHERFUCKING HAGGAR tomorrow.

Little gem from today's online: Some dude spams SENTINEL FORCE for roughly 30 seconds straight. I get bored of ducking in a corner, and I call in hulk to smash him to bits. Exiting the match, I prepare to turn it off for the day when I get a PM from the guy calling me a number of vulgar things. Turns out being able to avoid spam is "FUKING NUB SHET".
