Starbound [Winter Update!] - Razmos - 2013-12-04 Really enjoying it so far. Haven't come across any bugs surprisingly, apart from when I was starting up the game initially. I had some framerate trouble, but found some ways around it. What I have found is a bunch of cool stuff though, like 2 bosses randomly appearing while exploring, both of them dropped a Legendary-tier sword. a "Watersword" and an "Eyesword". the water sword sends out about 5 bubbles that grow bigger as they travel, and the eye sword sends out a red mist/smoke attack which damages and pushes away enemies. I also came across a random Glitch palace, within which was a Glitch King, I killed him, took his crown (which is blue rarity), and activated a hidden trapdoor, leading to a treasure chest with a wedding dress in it. I've nearly finished making the distress beacon, and I fully fueled my ship using Coal. So i'm looking forward to trying out another planet tomorrow. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Dark Link - 2013-12-04 This game is much more fun with friends when compared to other sandbox games IMO. Still really enjoying it even in single player. The only bug I've encountered so far was me trying to connect to my own server causes my game to crash. Had my RL friend set one up and joined his instead. We have 4 people, including me, and we're split into groups of 2 on two different planets. EDIT: There was a 548.3MB patch that was just pushed out for Starbound a few minutes ago. The only thing we know about it fixes a bunch of crashes, including the OSX bow bug. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Reako - 2013-12-04 I encountered a floran village and recorded it, though it took a few tries. Opening Fraps with the game running crashes it ![]()

Starbound [Winter Update!] - Ryukiroku - 2013-12-05 I've been having a lot of fun so far. Got my full silver armor. Jumped over to another planet and fought a mini boss(?) and found this awesome legendary flesh sword. On that same planet I found my first tech Energy Dash in an Apex lab. I'm just waiting on my friend to finish up the update so we can possibly take on the first boss before the night's over. Starbound [Winter Update!] - SuperNerd - 2013-12-05 I've heard the first boss is insanely difficult as it is actually a placeholder. I'm not going to even attempt it before knowing I'm able to survive on a Threat Lv.9 planet. It's been a good time so far. The game definitely starts off slower than its cousins, but once it starts to pick up, it certainly picks up. Instead of building little homesteads on the planets, I just said "pineapple it" and built onto my ship with the major necessities and made it a bit homely. I even have a small crop garden growing food for me. Encountered two dungeons so far, one of a Floran prison (I didn't get to finish this one, sadly, as the planet changed upon switching the character to multiplayer) and another was an Apex lab. I finished the lab, and aside from various interesting random items found in lockers (full scientist clothing and some Apex codex stuff), there wasn't an ultimate prize at the end. It was cool though. On another planet, I found a miniboss which I promptly took on solo. It dropped a purple item--a big greatsword made of skulls that blasts out bones in an arc with every swing. Last thing me and my friend did before he got off was travel to an arid planet and as we walked around, we found an Avian marketplace which we traversed through, buying up some random blueprints and scavenging their drawers/wardrobes for misc. items. We almost caused a scene as I accidentally pulled out my weapon for a split second, which made the guards very nervous and had them following me demanding I put it away or they'd use force. I complied. On my very first planet I also ran into bandits like 5 minutes in, and one of them dropped an Avian shield. I am pretty sure that shields are supposed to take off portions of your health that heal back quickly, to prevent from turtling behind them, but as of right now, they just outright make you invincible, haha. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Dark Link - 2013-12-05 Bandages seem ridiculously overpowered for early game since they have no CD and can be spammed whenever you're low on life. Starbound [Winter Update!] - 案山子 - 2013-12-05 I'm having major complaints with the game's difficulty. It's complete ass right now. There is literally 0 feeling or progression in the game so far because there is no such thing as "working your way up". You're either pathetically underpowered or absurdly overpowered. No middle ground whatsoever. You literally either 1~2hit KO enemies, or they 1~2hit KO you. No. Middle. Ground. Just for reference I've been to many planets so far, and gained access and am currently in Beta Sector planets. Nothing changes. There's also no feeling of reward so far. Anything you encounter on a planet is 100% RNG, so you can waste time and resources going to one that has nothing on it but standard things such as trees, dirt, etc. I don't even want to think about how many times I reach a planet with a single dungeon or what-have-you and there's not even a chest in it. And even when there's loot from enemies that beats my current gear I don't feel reward because of the previously mentioned "difficulty". I get a new weapon then I simply 1hit all monsters on the planet, always. Hard to feel great when I've just obtained "god-mode". I remeber when I found a Legendary Lv5 2H, but it became 100% useless once I got to Lv7 and the new "Crappy and Sloppy" items were 1hitting all the mobs and Legendary Lv5 wasn't. Ore is far too rare, going back to the 100% RNG nonsense. Gold ore and beyond may as well not even exist. The game has virtually no content underground. The few caverns found on planets will give you SOME ore at most (Some as in things you need, not ore you've outgrown several tiers ago), and maybe a single chest if Starbound gods love you long time. There's not even any music underground which makes things pretty boring along with the fact that most materials take FOREVER to mine through, even using higher tier pickaxes. Your pick mines in a 3x3 grid but mines that 3x3 grid at least 10x slower than in Minecraft or Terraria. The time it takes you to mine out some of the really common materials even with a Gold pickaxe is pretty sad and takes so long that if I was playing Terraria I'd have mined out a giant hole in the earth. The 3x3 is fast when it's fast, but ragequit-worthy when it's slow. One extreme or the other, kind of like the combat/difficulty. And yes, it's beta, but at the moment it's not very fun. I can SEE the potential, but it's VERY blurry at the moment. I'd love to see how things are once you're guaranteed at least 1 interesting thing per planet. -- Also, the UFO boss is a threat level 10 boss. Don't bother with it until you've gotten to threat level 8~10 yourself if you actually want to beat it properly without extra cheese. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Ryukiroku - 2013-12-05 The two of us did end up beating the boss on the first try. He wasn't as difficult as people made him out to be but we could've used some better ranged weapons other than the iron hunting bow and randomly getting lucky on connected my sword. A couple tips for future encounters: 1. Bandages are cheap and easy like Dark Link said. 2. Silver armor works nice. I feel the recipes are a bit cheap compared to the weaker Scavenger armor. 3. Prepare a small arena. One flat platform for the ground of whatever material you need and another platform in the air made of wood platforms so you can reach him with your melee weapons better.(would've saved me some time)

I am really really enjoying this game so far. Starbound [Winter Update!] - 案山子 - 2013-12-05 Ryukiroku Wrote:

Also, does anybody know if there is ANY way to set a specific spawn point on a planet? It sucks having to go back to the default spawn point, especially when a really sweet, already-made settlement is a ways to the left/right and you'd much rather camp there (and rightfully so) than to set up a jank-shack at the default spawn.
Starbound [Winter Update!] - Razmos - 2013-12-05 Moved on to a snow planet, and I found another random boss. it dropped a hammer, but a special hammer, that destroys all blocks in a massive radius (about 3 times bigger than the pickaxe range) and twice as fast as a pickaxe. I can literally destroy the landscape, it's badass. I also found a snowman on a snow planet, I destroyed it and got a fancy tophat (which seems to make me immune to the cold) and a carrot. Also got a shield which has a placeholder description. "This item needs to have a description set" haha Starbound [Winter Update!] - 案山子 - 2013-12-05 Just found this nice location right now: Beta Sector Beta 16 Cyg Minoris X 59877579 Y -70634079 Beta 16 Cyg Minoris II a Threat Level: 13 Biome: Desert Giant Avian merchant village directly to the left of spawn if anybody wants to check it out. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Ryukiroku - 2013-12-05 Incoming patch tonight: http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/changes-coming-tonight.36663/ Lot of good changes. Heat bar will actually make sense. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Dark Link - 2013-12-05 Wow, those changes are insane! Can't wait for that to hit the game. Quote:- Tweaked the UFO boss to make him smash blocks. (done) I lol'd. Totally saw it coming from a mile away. Starbound [Winter Update!] - SuperNerd - 2013-12-05

I pretty much agree with every point you made. These are the exact issues and problems I have with the beta/game thus far. Earlier today I found yet another dungeon and thus far, out of all the dungeons I've done, none had an actual reward or chest. It's sort of aggravating. In Terraria, as soon as I'd get my initial house set-up, I'd instantly start looking for caves to start spelunking and mining down into, as you went deeper and deeper, you found better/bigger veins of ores and things like mini-dungeons, hidden chests or items, etc. Here in Starbound, I honestly get no fun out of going into caves or digging for ores. Last night, I traversed through a cave system for about an hour and aside from finding small amounts of the same ores over and over, the only difference was a change in biomes and enemies. There was no reason to explore. Today I've traveled to about 4 different planets, as usually I just go there, see if there's anything worth looting/exploring on the surface, grab some veins of ore and other materials from the surface and then leave to find another planet. One of the things from Terraria that I also liked, was that every enemy had a chance to drop their own cool/rare items. There doesn't seem to be any kind of drop table for regular enemies on planets, at least, at this point. You either get pixels or meat, that's it. And the enemies who do drop items, just tend to drop repeats, "Oh, look, it's the exact same looking sword, except a little stronger, yay." I realize that their enemy system is built on random generation, but surely there is someway they can implement a strong loot mechanic to rival Terraria's. Anyways, just wanted to add my two cents in. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Razmos - 2013-12-05 I noticed that I found far more treasure chests on a Moon biome than any other, probably to account for it's higher difficulty in regards to you losing warmth even faster than snow biome. I look forward to seeing more types of Biomes in the future, can you imagine an ocean planet, where you have to be a Hyotl or have scuba gear to explore. underwater caves, pitch black, sunken ships and horrors. This so has to happen in the future. Starbound [Winter Update!] - iamflip - 2013-12-05 Quote:- Craftable climbing ropes! (done) YAY. I missed having ropes. They were so useful in Terraria. Also found some really useful tips. Now I know how to farm now.
Starbound [Winter Update!] - Dark Link - 2013-12-05 Tiy's been updating the Reddit topic, about the upcoming changes, more frequently compared to the Starbound forums one. http://www.reddit.com/r/starbound/comments/1s620n/some_of_the_changes_coming_tonight/ I went super deep on my planet today and found a massive ton of Iron, a lot of Silver, and some Gold. I'm in full silver armor with iron weapons and the enemies are doing <10 damage to me. My "Level" is 10 according to the "Armor Value". Starbound [Winter Update!] - Reako - 2013-12-05 I have acquired a big pile of armor pen 21-23 weapons and I'm wondering if anyone would like to have some for themselves. Right now I can only get multiplayer working for me via hamachi, but if any of you have a server of your own, and wanna see what I've got, just let me know. I was wondering if this was true. I actually tried exploring a Moon earlier today and found a giant moon base where the guards dropped good weapons and there were at least 2~3chests inside. Obviously I'm sure not all Moons are the same in this respect, but it was nice to feel like my hunch was correct at the time if nothing else. My only complaint on it might have been that Moons are SO cold that you require warmth every 1~2minutes so you end up moving a bit, then sitting till your warmth is up, and repeat. Not a BIG deal, but it's a little silly. Starbound [Winter Update!] - Dark Link - 2013-12-06 RL friend and I are nearly at Tier 3 content. We have 3 of the 4 Robot parts needed to create the "Inactive Robot". New major patch just went out for Starbound; Codenamed "Irritated Koala". Patch size is 571.9 MB.
